Upper blepharoplasty Monday - HELP!

FannyBawz · 31/05/2025 06:18

I’ve got an upper blepharoplasty booked on for Monday.

My husband has to go away…it’s a last minute work thing and he’ll be away until Wednesday. surely I’ll be ok getting a taxi home and letting my very capable teenagers help me out? Or am I being selfish? My children aren’t at a driving age yet.

will they literally let me leave without an adult escorting me off? I will have been under twilight sedation. I really don’t know what to do.

if anybody had this, can you tell me how you were right after the operation?

Hello, haven’t had it, but am on a Facebook group as thinking of having it, there will be loads of advice on there, The UK Blepharoplasty support group. I’m sure you will be ok.

SpiralSister · 31/05/2025 07:23

I had it done last year. So pleased with results btw! I think you will have to ask the clinic about this. I certainly couldn’t see well enough to be unguided out to the car afterwards. And you can’t bend over at all for days afterwards, so you really need someone around to help out. Sounds like the teens can do that ok, so it might just be the clinic bit.

Can one of them come with you?

Sunnyday321 · 31/05/2025 07:35

I've heard of people getting a train to the city where the procedure is carried out and then having a night or two in a hotel to recover . It didn't sound like they were under the care of anyone .
Could you not phone up the company to seek advice ?

Fannyy · 31/05/2025 07:44

You're panicking you'll be totally fine

CatrinVennastin · 31/05/2025 07:47

I had twilight sedation for some complex dental work and I was really groggy after and definitely needed DH with me.

I would say ask if someone from the clinic can help you to a taxi then your teens are there at the other end of the journey.

the worst but for me was getting out the cab as my legs were like jelly.

KatharinaRosalie · 31/05/2025 08:59

I had it, was totally fine getting into a taxi, and didn't need any help later. They did keep me in for a little while til the sedation wore off though.

Fannyy · 31/05/2025 09:38

My husband had upper and lower done as day surgery and was fine. The stitches were bloody. Awful tho

justtaketheeffingpicture · 31/05/2025 12:45

I imagine if you are having twilight sedation they will expect someone to collect you but surely they have sent all of this information to you by now? If they haven't I would be questioning this place. I get procedures through NHS which involve this and they ALWAYS send out detailed information.

FannyBawz · 31/05/2025 13:15

It’s not a clinic, it’s a private hospital. They’ve sent me out all the bumf- I’ve told them at the premed I’d probably have to take a taxi home and they didn’t threaten to cancel or anything

sunshinechaser · 31/05/2025 13:22

I had it done about 5 years ago at a private hospital without any sedation. My DH picked me up afterwards and drove me home. I wore sunglasses to leave the hospital as it was local to me and wanted to try and hide my identity a bit in case I knew anyone there. You will feel a bit disoriented and will probably need guided to the taxi but should be okay. I slept upright for the first night only I think but by the next morning I felt fine. As long as your teens are willing to help you you’ll be fine.
I’ve popped my before and after photos here. It’s tough but totally worth it!

sunshinechaser · 31/05/2025 13:23

Just reread your OP. Do you really need sedation? It’s not a long or stressful procedure. You’re on the table for about 30 mins and the benefit of no sedation means you’ll feel completely normal afterwards.

MaiAamWaliHun · 31/05/2025 18:29

I had it under local, it was fine. Do you need to be under twilight?

Mackerelfillets · 31/05/2025 18:56

I had it with no sedation. The local anesthetic was a bit stingy but no pain after that. You will have no problem with a taxi. I have absolutely NO regrets. Can't speak for others but i had no pain during healing, stitches came out easily. Back at work a week later, there was still a bit of bruising but nothing major.

JaneM99 · 31/05/2025 19:46

Hi, I had an upper bleph done 2 years ago in July. I was very nervous, so the surgeon wrote up for me to have me ½ a diazepam 15 mins before I went into the theatre. The did the op with local anesthetic injected into the folds of the eyelid (probably the most painful bit but not pain-pain, just uncomfortable).
I honestly didn't feel the scalpel at all and the surgeon spoke to me the whole time.
Probably the worst but was the smell of flesh being cauterised.
I was off the table within 30 mins and back down in the lobby with my husband.
I couldn't have driven myself but I would have been fine in a taxi.
I did feel very tired on the journey home. I thine probably the after effects of the diazepam.
When we got home (about an hour and a half journey) my eyelids were quite swollen and felt very heavy but not painful at all.
You will need to get yourself a good eyemask, filled with beads, that you can put in the freezer. You need to use this every waking hour for the first couple of days.
Get some arnica pillules/ tablets and some bromelain - both in the highest strength you can get. Plus some witchazel to keep in the fridge and dab at your stitches. And, some kelo-cote silicone scar gel and a gua-sha stone to massage your scar in a month or so
I got all this, plus the eyemask filled with beads from Amazon.
You will also need to sleep, propped up for the next week so get yourself a v-shaped pillow.
You can't wear eye make up for a month either (longer if you can).
Good luck! I am sure you will be so happy with the results. J x

Could at least have said what blepheroplasty is in original post. I bet loads of people have to google it.

EyeEyeEyes · 31/05/2025 20:09

Is there a reason for twilight sedation?

I had mine with a Valium and a local - it’s a very quick procedure

Agreed. Getting the stitches out was by far the worst bit for me. I swore like a navvy all the way through and had to keep having breaks.

Mine took about 2 hours. I didn't have sedation and it was a bit tough going at times. I could feel it all at one point and had to have a top up of anaesthetic.

If you don't know what it is, then you've no knowledge of the procedure and can't help here anyway.

Your eyes look incredible, I’m hoping for a similarly dramatic change! Didn’t everybody notice immediately?

This is incredibly helpful, thank you, I’ll be going shopping tomorrow x

Its easy peasy, imwould t pay for twilight sedation, really not necessary, i had both upper done after ten yearsnof nightshift, ten mins on the table, local anaesthetic and was talking, joking with surgeon throughout, my recollection is that i was only on table around ten mins, injection then felt a warm sensation (the incision snipping out excess skin) then stitches,no bother, honestly,a doddle , so pls dont worry

FannyBawz · 31/05/2025 20:25

@Bleachedlevis @Foolsgold74

I am a fairly robust person but would prefer not to feel stressed in any way and the thing that bothers me the most is the smell urgh. I’d rather be sedated than traumatised later. Maybe I’m overthinking it but I also wouldn’t do a colonoscopy etc without twilight. I have a very sensitive nose. I don’t want to end up nauseous - I had a mole removed once and it put me off bacon for ages. Can’t be doing with that sad state of affairs again 🤣

My oh of 20 years (at the time, ex now) didn't even notice. I booked it to coincide with him being away. I was still bruised when he came back but the incisions were pretty much gone. He, of course, noticed the bruising and I told him one of my horses had knocked me in the face. He bought it and it was never mentioned again!
