Please help! Sandals for really difficult feet

Every year I buy a new pair of sandals thinking these will be the ones, but every year end up with blisters after the first wear and I end up resorting back to my very old Next sandals which are well worn out by now but strangely comfortable (despite many more expensive ones bought since). My requirements are tan/neutral colour, reasonably stylish to wear with dresses, able to walk comfortably in all day (not hiking, just easy walking). Should be easy except I have bunions which are unsightly and can be painful if shoes are rubbing, however I have very narrow feet and ankles so I can't wear wide shoes to compensate or they fall off. I need a strap due to narrow feet. Definitely don't want sporty type Teva sandals (nothing against them, but not what I'm looking for). Budget up to £100.

I have these, they're a little over your budget but incredibly comfortable

Vionic Women's Rest Amber Slingback https://amzn.eu/d/67qhTnw

A lot of arch support and all the straps are Velcro. They do them in white as well.

Geox Vega sandals are excellent and I have them but I don't know if they come I a non metallic version. I've got bunions and I'm very clumsy so I need supportive but stylish footwear.

AngryLikeHades · 24/05/2025 15:08

My feet are also very narrow.

HolidayHattie · 24/05/2025 15:14

I looked in a Sketchers shop this week and was surprised at how many different styles of sandals they do. Some of them have elastic straps, others are padded leather (or leather-look). I'm sure there would be something suitable. I just wish I'd had time to try some.

I bought these this year, they’re fab. I have bunions, bad knees and get awful joint pain but I’ve been wearing these a lot. Super comfortable and no blisters at all.

My go to sandal every time. Great quality and so comfortable

bridgetreilly · 24/05/2025 15:39

My experience is that if you get blisters after one wear, let the blisters heal and try the shoes again. Your skin will have hardened in the right places and the shoes will be fine.

Cherubimbum · 24/05/2025 18:11

My mum has these, they look better on than off. Adjustable and featherlight. Other shops (including clinkards) sell them if your size isn't in stock at Rieker.

The Saltwater ones are closest from what's on this thread, but I've tried them before so I know they are too tight across my bunion.

Did you try the classic or the boardwalk style though?

The classic and boardwalk style are adjustable so I think they would be worth a try. Salt-water sandals also give a little. I thought they would be too tight when I first tried them but I followed the advice they give of soaking them for five mins and then wearing until they are dry. Perfect fit!

HateThese4Leggedbeasts · 24/05/2025 23:55

I came on to say Saltwater as if you soak them and wear them until dry they stretch and mould to your feet. My slightly too tight straps became a perfect fit. Pp are right that there is no arch support though.
Mine have a thick sole so are very comfortable. I don't have a bunion but do have oddly shaped feet

minnienono · 24/05/2025 23:59

I have timberland ones that are very comfortable

Morethanthis71 · 25/05/2025 08:19

Have you looked at pikolinos? I bought mine from la redoute. I spend at least 9 hours on my feet and walk four miles around my c/room a day, and these have been a godsend for the past month.

AnnaBalfour · 25/05/2025 08:31

Marion sandals from Gabor, adjustable and lightweight, just incredible. If you can get them in a non wide fit

HaagenYAAS · 25/05/2025 08:49

Have you looked at barefoot sandles? Some that have a strap between the toes only so will be clear of your bunion, and very adjustable (one of the cornerstones of barefoot is a good fit)

BabyCat2020z · 25/05/2025 09:03

I have the same issue and end up wearing plimsoles/trainers mostly, or sliders in summer. It would be so helpful if they designed shoes with a thicker strap over where the bunions are or even slightly rouched so bunion not visible. Drives me bonkers as I refuse to wear anything shows them!! I also don't like completely flat shoes as that seems to me my skinny feet look longer! Winter is so much easier with boots and trainers.

Peekingovertheparapet · 25/05/2025 09:05

If you’re in the South and can get to Southampton take a trip to French and Sons. It’s a super old fashioned shoe shop with really experienced fitters, and an in-house workshop so they can make adjustments and soften places that rub.

I have really awkward feet, narrow and hypermobile. I get on well with Birkenstocks. I do have some Blowfish sandals I bought for a wedding that I quite liked but they didn’t really have enough arch support to be worn all the time.

stringbean · 25/05/2025 09:17

I was also going to suggest Vionic as they have good arch support and are designed for feet with bunions - would these work OP? They have them in tan https://www.vionicshoes.co.uk/women/sandals/cypress-strappy-sandal.html?color=923

I was going to ask if you had persevered with them. My first pair were very tight, I soaked them and walked about til they were dry. The leather is so soft and comfortable now.

Can you do this with any sandals that are too tight I wonder?

@KeepOnCleaning There is a website that specialises in footwear for bunions. I can't recall it at the moment but I'll have a search and see.
I sympathise with difficult feet, mine are also difficult but in different ways to you.

Original Rose gold Salt Water sandals. Can’t beat them. I also have grim bunioned feet. I have four pairs of salt water. My favs are the rose gold originals (I think) which are the first link, the second link is the same but with a thicker sole - I expect these are more comfortable for sure but I’m not as keen on the look personally (haven’t tried them). For short walks, dinner, holidaying, I also have the third pair. I wouldn’t recommend these for longer walks but adore them otherwise. Good luck - bunions are horrible.

I think it’s called Calla or something similar.
