Is this too casual for a 'semi formal' wedding?

I am not a very stylish person so would appreciate honest opinions. Can I wear this dress to my brother's wedding? It is cotton and quite simple style so I'm wondering if it's too casual.

It looks comfy though and I do prefer simple. Just wondering if I will look like I've dressed for a barbecue..

How about strappy heeled block sandal? I like A & C of the flats.

Think I'd wear a black fascinator. There's quite a lot of bottom half fabric compared to the top so needs balancing.

Not a fascinator . And closed pointed toe flat or kitten heel will look much more stylish and dressy than a block heeled sandal.

A headband is a good compromise. If this is late summer, not sure black tights work. Autumn maybe? Not very weddingy! I’d just wear nude tights.

I am not a fan of boleros. Ultra mother of the bride and very dated. Much nicer is a black tweed with sparkly bits. I agree about kitten heels. Clumpy shoes just don’t look great unless you have the best legs ever.

These are available via M&S. One is their own brand and one is Hobbs. I think the one with 3 buttons is Whistles. The huge advantage these have over a bolero is that you can wear them again. A lot. When will you ever wear a bolero again? You won’t need a belt with these.

OP won't need a belt at all.
I'm usually not keen on boleros. The one suggested looked terrible on Hobbs' website but looked good with the dress. If not a bolero, any jacket should be cropped and intended to be worn open.
Those M and S jackets are nice but I think there might be too much of them and they'd overwhelm the dress. Black tweed with sparkly bits isn't the right vibe.

Hi @TizerorFizz . I think you're replying to me but I'm not the OP. I just happen to be wearing the same dress to a different event and posted to give the OP ideas.

(As I explained, the black tights were just what I happened to have in - I would wear something much thinner and yes, possibly nude. But I think the black actually looks nice for autumn.)

Apologies @Arcticbeer . I'll see if I can have my post removed so as not to cause confusion.

@Antigonestoyspade Oh no, please don't! It's great to see how someone else will be wearing it. You look brilliant.

I always feel a bit silly in jackets, I don't know why. I usually wear a thin cardigan over a dress and I think that kind if thing suits me more, personally.

Thank you. It's already gone but hopefully it was helpful to you and now you won't have people critiquing my styling to you!

I feel the same about jackets. I think a thin cardigan (whether bolero style or not) is much better. I personally don't find the bolero cardigan dated at all.

I think getting the right jacket over a dress is difficult. Obviously if it's just getting from a to be avoiding the elements, no problem- you take it off at b. But a jacket intended to be worn with a dress is far trickier. The standard MN "wear a blazer" rarely works.

It’s gorgeous.
Very stylish, fresh looking and absolutely lovely.

You don’t need a hat imo.

Shoe wise I’d say BC or E. Sorry but D is giving me a Rumplestiltskin vibe!
