I have weighed my new bikini from Next…

I have been buying same style high leg bikini bottoms from Next for years. Finally, got the red bikini as previously out of stock. Not my first choice if the bra as it’s a tie back and I prefer a clasp but I am not paying Pour Moi prices for maybe 5 wears per year.

Anyways, the bottom felt a touch flimsy. I got out and weighted identical cut bottoms from 2 years ago and weighted them on a kitchen scale - indeed, 52g old, 46g new. 12% flimsier. Annoying.

Have you ever considered posting on the Facebook Dull Womens group? This is the kind of content they love! Don't forget the banana for scale!!

Love that you did this though. I've noticed jeans no longer come as thick as they used to.

LikeWhoUsesTypewritersAnyway · 19/05/2025 22:33

😂 Really @AguaMinerale ???

Is that a thing? 😆 The Facebook 'Dull Womens Group.' I HAVE to look that up. (I will probably join it, and fit right in!) 😂

WhoAreYouTalkingTo · 19/05/2025 22:45

It is. Although the Dull Men's group accepts females and is much more dull. I bloody love it

Thanks @WhoAreYouTalkingTo Smile

WhoAreYouTalkingTo · 19/05/2025 22:47

It's called The Dull Men's club

AguaMinerale · 19/05/2025 22:47

I am not on FB, too busy measuring the thickness of the double insulating walls of my new stainless steel thermal flask 😂

Realistically, I do not need it to keep water cool for 48 hours as I empty it pretty quickly / not out with same water for that long but that’s what I paid for…

Please join. I feel you can make time for more dull content. You would love it. They would all also measure the thickness of their insulation and compare notes 🤣

Have you considered that the washing may have contributed to making it lighter?

GreenFressia · 19/05/2025 23:11

I can never work out if the Dull Mens Club is ironic. I'm all for factoids but it's like you can't express actual enthusiasm.

Eh?
It's the new, presumably unwashed, one that's lighter!

Shuttered · 19/05/2025 23:14

Oh, this thread has cheered me considerably. Thank you, measurers of bikini flimsiness and flask insulation!

WellingtonBootilicious · 19/05/2025 23:15

This is amazing!! What a clever experiment.
Agree that Next clothes are just not what they were. I don’t think anywhere is any good now, quality has just gone

soupyspoon · 19/05/2025 23:16

OMG I love dull.

And hate getting ripped off with flimsy garments.

Well done OP for bringing this to our attention, whats that programme that used to be on with Anne Robinson where they bring such shysters to book?

This was my first thought too! 😁

BangersAndGnash · 19/05/2025 23:19

I detected my knock off Converse by weighing them and finding them lighter than the real thing.

Avatartar · 19/05/2025 23:21

Great for light luggage!

SheridansPortSalut · 19/05/2025 23:22

I have recently had the same experience with next swimwear. They make the same style every year. This year's version is smaller, so it doesn't fit and fabric is horribly cheap looking. I must admit, I didn't think to weigh it.

Riverswimmers · 19/05/2025 23:22

You should have just gone for it and bought PourMoi. It's worth the money as great quality and lasts. Its a nice treat having fab swimwear even if it just for holiday a year.

Learnedimasoftgirl · 19/05/2025 23:26

I’ve had the same this year with trousers , haven’t weighed but I’m going to now! Such flimsy fabric and bobbles between the legs at the top after a cpl of wears which is v unsightly.
The t shirts on the other hand have improved , a little too much imo as the American cotton ones are thick and bulletproof (apart from the odd drooping hemline) but a little too hot and stiff for Summer.
I like next basics for reliable (albeit vanity!) sizing generally but the fabric quality is really not consistent , but where is these days?! I remember when this happened to Gap. For years you could rely on running into gap and getting a heap of indestructible well fitting t shirts, then at some point it was just polyester dishcloth shit. So disappointing.

Sugargliderwombat · 19/05/2025 23:30

I've noticed this! If I buy my toddler or baby clothes on vinted they're higher quality than if I buy new from the same shop. Supermarket clothes from a few years ago were fab but if I buy new it looks crap and thin after one wash. Boring but I'm glad I found somewhere to say that out loud.

TheAutumnCrow · 19/05/2025 23:37

I once weighed my jeans, top and footwear on my bathroom scales after a hospital appointment, to prove to myself that the HCSW who weighed me was wrong to deduct only 2lb for ‘wearing outdoor clothes’ from my weight.

I was quietly satisfied. That is all.

TatteredAndTorn · 20/05/2025 02:29

I LOVE that you weighed them 😂🥰

Summerhillsquare · 20/05/2025 05:21

Love the Dull Women's Club recommendation 😆
