What have you done with your high heels?

I always wore heels when I was younger and would wear them at work all day long! Then I had children and it wasn’t practical of course. Now fashions have completely changed and no one seems to wear them at all.

I still have some in the wardrobe that I have kept in case I go to a wedding (none on the horizon) and I don’t think they are going to come back into fashion so it’s probably time to get rid of them completely. What have you done with yours?

My feet have grown too, although I’ve never worn heels. It’s all very strange. I blame menopause.

Apparently feet tend to broaden and lengthen as people age, though it's not typically a result of the bones growing larger. Instead, the natural fat pads on the soles of the feet thin, ligaments and tendons lose some elasticity, and the arches may flatten, leading to a wider and longer foot shape.

My fat pads on my soles have all but disappeared (and the fat has gone on my middle and then some!) meaning heels are really painful to wear as the soles of my feet feel bruised. This getting older business really sucks.

Like most other people I sold / charity shopped most of them but kept a few of my favourite pairs. I used to wear crazy heels to work but cant even look at them without wincing now. Im too old to be bothering with sore feet.

Funnily enough though, heels have started appearing around my way on younger and older people. Admittedly they are chunky heels rather than stilettos but they are sneaking in.

Ive grown a foot size since pregnancy. Im gutted because I used to he able to sometimes fit childrens shoes which are obviously much cheaper.

Still have most of mine, and still buy them! Just invested in the most glorious pair for an event in a couple of weeks and cannot wait to wear them. Spend most of my time in casual (or scruffy!) clothes, so love the chance to dress up.
Am entirely unbothered by what is classed as “fashionable” and hate the current fashion for clunky/chunky shoes.

Got rid of them all – charity shops, ebay and Vinted. Never again. Not worth it, imo.

MayaPinion · 13/06/2025 22:42

Heels just look ridiculous these days. I binned mine at the start of COVID and can’t think of a single reason why I’d want to wear them again. Can you imagine asking a man to wear shoes that were uncomfortable, increased the risk of injury, and were an active hindrance in an emergency situation, but they made your arse look sexee for the laydeeez, so it’s all ok?

marmiteloversunite · 14/06/2025 06:14

I was in Shuh yesterday and they are selling about 4/5 pairs of heels. I haven’t seen them in there for years so maybe they are coming back?

TaffetaPhrases · 14/06/2025 06:24

Gosh I hope they’re coming back, I am so over flats. I am sick of trainers!! I am wearing some chunky heeled loafers out tonight with massive palazzo pants. I intend to be back in stilettos by September 🎉🎉🎉

Gettingbysomehow · 14/06/2025 06:27

Sometimes I like to sit around the house in high heels because they are so beautiful but walking or going out is no longer possible 😂

Floisme · 14/06/2025 07:08

I won’t be wearing them but I’ll still be quite pleased when they come back. I didn’t expect to miss them but, in a funny kind of way, I do. I even miss that stupid clippety clop noise they make. And I miss tutting.

Onelifeonly · 14/06/2025 07:11

Never had a lot but I've kept one stilleto type, just in case, and one pair with a lower heel. Haven't worn either in years but they are stored in a wardrobe so it's no big deal.

Oh and I had some high heeled boots I loved that I kept for decades. Recently discovered they had sort of rotted and the heel had come loose so had to chuck them.

Roselilly36 · 14/06/2025 07:16

When I was young I always wore heels. I was diagnosed with Multiple Sclerosis when my DS’ were very young, knew I would never wear heels again, due to my mobility and balance issues. I mainly wear Skechers now.

HelenWheels · 14/06/2025 07:18

The ones I haven't binned are in the back of the wardrobe. Never see the light of day.
