What have you done with your high heels?

I always wore heels when I was younger and would wear them at work all day long! Then I had children and it wasn’t practical of course. Now fashions have completely changed and no one seems to wear them at all.

I still have some in the wardrobe that I have kept in case I go to a wedding (none on the horizon) and I don’t think they are going to come back into fashion so it’s probably time to get rid of them completely. What have you done with yours?

I still wear them. I love heels and collect nice designer pairs.

This makes me happy. I genuinely love seeing other women in beautiful heels 👠

WetBandits · 18/05/2025 12:24

My feet are hurting at the sheer memory of wearing heels every weekend! I have one comfy pair left in my possession for wearing to weddings, and even then they come off in favour of flats at the earliest opportunity.

I had a bout of plantar fasciitis in both feet a few years ago and can’t bear the thought of ever triggering that again!

zaxxon · 18/05/2025 12:34

Recently I dug mine out of the back of the wardrobe for a wedding. Even in what I thought of as the comfortable wedges, I could hardly walk! Wobbling all over the place. I've lost the knack.

And my feet have changed shape - bunions have disappeared after years of barefoot shoes and flexible, thin trainers. That's got to be a good thing?

footpath · 18/05/2025 12:34

Kept the ones I still wear for parties and events. Plenty still wear heels tbh.

footpath · 18/05/2025 12:35

I never really wore very high &/or stilettos though.

footpath · 18/05/2025 12:37

Also you can wear heels that are comfortable, it depends on the style and quality.

Doggymummar · 18/05/2025 12:41

Heels is not something I ever got into. I think some are beautiful but I never had that life. Clubbing was as a Goth in DMs and office work was always casual

Spiderwomann · 18/05/2025 12:44

I used to love my heels but ended up selling most of them over covid as knew I wouldn't wear them again. The designer ones I had all sold quite quickly which I was surprised by, but new look etc ones I had from uni I popped into one of the shoe recycling bins as thought it unlikely anyone would want them. I have kept one pair my DH bought me on our first anniversary even though they'll probably remain in the box from now on. I do think its great there's less pressure to wear heels now, but do think they look great.

Cloudless01 · 18/05/2025 12:59

I didn’t know they might be coming back in!

I might have a big trying on session and see which ones I might realistically ever wear, as in could I physically walk in them without falling over? 🤣

I think you need form for heels, you need to know how to walk in them, so you aren’t hobbling or thrown out of alignment which defeats the point. And your calf muscles change over time depending on whether you wear heels or flats. So dipping in and out is hard imo.

Wavescrashingonthebeach · 18/05/2025 13:18

Charity shopped the lot.
Got small kids, feet are crippled from years of running and also nights out in high heels, plus I don't like being taller than my partner.
Maybe one day il buy another pair for a special occasion but I'm not holding on to things for a "maybe".

Me too. I was in Chester last night wearing heels,as were lots of other ladies.

If anyone has any size 8 Christian Louboutin or Giuseppe Zanotti shoes, I'll happily take them off your hands Blush

ballroomblue · 18/05/2025 13:43

I've got a beautiful pair of red slingbacks that I've worn once. I seriously doubt I'll wear them again. They sit in the wardrobe in a lovely box. I can't bear to part with them and don't know why.👠👠

Gettingbysomehow · 18/05/2025 15:18

I have a few pairs but I wouldnt say they were ever super high .mostly kitten heels. I've always preferred flats or kitten heels.
The ones I rarely wear are in my shoe cabinet. How people can wear sky high heels I do not know.

pepperaunt · 18/05/2025 17:00

(I’ve convinced myself that) my feet best suit expensive shoes, but no longer wear heels. I tried to sell a few pairs on Vestaire, but not much interest.

GingerLiberalFeminist · 18/05/2025 17:04

I have one pair of black high heeled court shoes for special occasions. Probably completely out of fashion but so am I! They get worn every six months or so!
All others went to charity

Artesia · 18/05/2025 17:04

I wear them. Wore a fabulous pair of bright orange stilettos for work last week and got so many compliments on them. Heels make me happy (worn on the right occasions obv- not for a quick dash to Tesco) and I can walk in them no bother so I wear them and all the nay sayers be damned.

LavenderBlue19 · 18/05/2025 17:29

I think they're coming back, for the young at least. When I was at work in London (City/Shoreditch) last week I was struck by how many young women were wearing really quite high heels. Definitely thicker rather than stiletto, but properly high.

Roadtripitis · 18/05/2025 17:42

BoudiccaRuled · 18/05/2025 11:31

They will come back into fashion but we will then look rather muttony wearing them and/or will feel crippled by them.
Also my feet have grown.

My feet have grown too, although I’ve never worn heels. It’s all very strange. I blame menopause.

Shetlands · 18/05/2025 17:48

I lived in 3in high stilettos throughout my 20s - 50s but gave them up a while ago. Now, most of my shoes & boots have thicker 2 - 2.5in high heels as I prefer them over flats (unless dog walking). I find my posture improves with heels but I only buy well-made brands with supportive insoles.

Charity shopped them and never looked back. It wasn't even that they felt dated, I just felt like I want to prioritise my own comfort and health. I then switched to barefoot shoes, and now I cannot go back even if I wanted to! It's no overstatement to say it has changed my life/general pain levels. My feet are completely physically different now.

Please can you tell us more about the barefoot shoes experience and impact? How long did it take to adjust?

Kellywiththelegs · 18/05/2025 18:16

I used to wear skyscrapers when they were in fashion, I looked and felt flipping fabulous in them, my lifestyle has now changed and I’m older and I just don’t have the opportunity to wear them that often anymore, however i do have a couple of pairs of lovely heels that I wear for black tie nights when I go on a cruise, not as high as I used to wear (the Victoria Beckham type) and I feel great in them, really finishes off a glamorous cocktail dress. I have kept a couple of the skyscrapers because they are works of art and I can’t bear to part with them. I do wear a platform chunky ankle boot in winter about 3 inches high as I get fed up of wearing trainers and flat boots, sometimes I just want to strut my stuff and I just can’t do that in trainers!

Movinghouseatlast · 18/05/2025 18:33

I've kept a few pairs but I know I'll.never wear them again. I'm getting married in 3 weeks and bought a pair of gorgeous gold Esska Charlie knock off's from Monsoon. I've got a white pair but I think the gold will look better. So another pair of shoes I'll never wear again probably!

Bbq1 · 18/05/2025 18:40

I don't think they are in fashion really now but my many pairs of hh's are beautiful and a reminder of good times when I could wear them! They are stored in the loft.
