Too white, too much cleavage, too casual

DurhamDurham · 16/05/2025 13:59

I like it but it doesn’t seem appropriate for a wedding my, unless it’s a casual informal wedding, or a beach wedding abroad.

Goditsmemargaret · 16/05/2025 14:04

No don't.

TheCountessofLocksley · 16/05/2025 14:04

It’s a lovely dress, not at all bridal/bridesmaid-y (unless it’s a beach wedding, then I’d check it was ok and not similar to the bridal party). Must admit though that I really like it in the pink boho coloured, it’s giving definite mermaid vibes.

Knakeredd · 16/05/2025 12:42

If you look at the video on this - you can flip it back to front.
https://www.neverfullydressed.com/products/pink-and-red-crochet-elodie-dress

The description also states there are hooks and eyes to adjust the front for coverage. I like it, especially worn with the plunging back instead, but wonder if the dress might look a bit cheap irl.

gingercat02 · 16/05/2025 14:19

Its a gorgeous dress, I don't think it's too white/cream. It looks terrible back to front, please don't do that. It's lovely in most of the other colours too.

ApricotFlan · 16/05/2025 14:31

IsItBeesThoughLooshkin · 16/05/2025 12:40

It’s extremely low cut.

That was my first thought. That model is fairly flat chested, but if I wore that I’d look like my dumplings had boiled over!

Whatwaswrongwiththatusername · 16/05/2025 15:05

I personally think the pale pink one - the first option - is actually way more stunning than the white one anyway. I think if you love the dress for the style/shape and are not certain on the white for a wedding then one of the other colours would be much better.
Im not at all sure about the bright pink (with a crochet top?), the skirt is lovely but the top not so much, especially worn the other way round. I don’t think the white one is anywhere near as stunning at all anyway. The white and blue, again not really special enough, but that’s my own opinion. I think the pale pink one is definitely the nicer of all the options.

JosephGeorge · 16/05/2025 15:42

Yes, it's lovely (will you need a vest??) 😂
I wore a white dress with violet flowers to a 'posh' wedding at the weekend and wasn't the only one in a dress that was white with a pattern. Nobody in their right mind cares about that stuff these days.

PicklesMacGraw · 16/05/2025 16:03

I see that the background is white but doesn’t anyone else see the really noticible large coloured dots all over it. 🤷🏻‍♀️. You would have to be really daft to confuse it with a wedding dress. It’s a lovely dress.
I don’t think it will upstage or distract from the bride at all.
Replies to threads like this are always bonkers with some posters 100% against and some 100% for.

Why don’t you send a picture to the bride and ask her.

Bluevelvetsofa · 16/05/2025 16:19

I think you’ll spend time hitching it up on your shoulders too.

Zone2NorthLondon · 16/05/2025 18:34

Yes, it’s gorgeous
all the mn curmudgeons and there’s rules you know crew won’t like it

  • too white
  • guests will confuse you for the bride
  • too much on show (strumpet)
  • attention seeking
  • can you get a different colour with a bolero and high neck?
LadyKenya · 16/05/2025 18:38

I would not wear something with a neckline like that, to a wedding.

MrsMoastyToasty · 16/05/2025 18:42

It looks like a nightdress and it's made from artificial fibres. I don't think it's overpriced.

IOSTT · 16/05/2025 18:45

It’s probably very see through in daylight - ok for beach but not wedding

Sourisblanche · 16/05/2025 18:46

I really like the mermaid one in pink.

Whatadayyyyyyy · 16/05/2025 18:49

With posts like this, I feel like if you need to ask if it’s appropriate then it’s probably not

HiRen · 16/05/2025 18:50

I'm normally the first to say "too white", but I've never seen a bride wearing a (polka) dotted dress! I say go for it.

waltzingparrot · 16/05/2025 19:33

"Of all the dresses, in all the shops, in all the world, you had to pick that one!" 😂

ShinyAppleDreamingOfTheSea · 16/05/2025 19:59

I absolutely love that fabric OP, but it looks to me like the kind of fabric I would wear on holiday rather than to a wedding. Possibly the blue one would be nice if you could fix it so the neckline wasn’t so low.

PrincessOfPreschool · 16/05/2025 20:05

My immediate reaction was "Where's the white?" it's not even small polka dots, they are huge blobs of colour. I do have to say it does look a bit of a cheapy fabric/ beach bar vibe but that's nothing to do with the colour.

I love that you felt the need to e-x-p-l-a-i-n the quote.

ClassicalQueen · 16/05/2025 20:07

Long and mostly white… I wouldn’t unless you don’t like the bride.

ERthree · 16/05/2025 20:09

It is too white and certainly not suitable for a church wedding due to the deep cleavage.

Indeed…I tried on the pink one and fell in love with the material, but it’s very thin and the finish is shocking. Plus if you turn it back to front - which you pretty much have to do as the hook and eye does next to nothing, the shaping goes a bit weird and it looked obvious to me it had been reversed. @Knakeredd have you tried it on? I think there are nicer looking wedding guest outfits out there for the money…
