Is there any point in getting a boob lift in my mid-40’s

calamariqueen · 12/05/2025 09:10

I’ve got 36ff boobs that don’t have any fullness on top. They’re not around my knees, but they’re not where I want them to be 😂

But, I’m getting into perimenopause and wondering if this is just a part of life I need to accept? If I balance the cost of surgery vs a family holiday, I would pick boobs as it’s something that affects me every day. Family wouldn’t agree!!

What has your experience been? If you’ve had a lift how old were you and were you still happy with the results in your 40’s?

Just seems an unnecessary surgery and extravagance to me. I've accepted my body though. I have school friends that haven't lived to 40. I try to count my blessings.

calamariqueen · 12/05/2025 09:34

Yes and it would be an extravagance, but not one that would leave us no savings/fancially insecure, which is why I compared with a holiday. If I haven’t accepted my body by now will I ever be happy in it 🤷🏼‍♀️

I had a very negative (internal) reaction to my friend having Botox, I really didn’t see the point and this is probably the same, no one else would notice as they look fine with the scaffolding bras in place!! Would just be nice to not have to consider suitable bras/clothing into the nth degree every time I get dressed ☹️

Have you tried a really expensive bra OP? Sorry if this is really obvious!

onwardsup4 · 12/05/2025 09:38

If it would make a massive difference to your life and happiness and you can afford it without hardship I say do it.
im planning on paying to get my teeth sorted this year as I know it will change my life, it may mean a holiday in this county this year and I was planning on Disney but I feel the teeth will be more beneficial and I can do lots of smiling when we go next year! Instead of no smiling.

Plumedenom · 12/05/2025 09:40

You are going to be alive for many more years hopefully. If it would make you feel good and you have the money I say go for it

minipie · 12/05/2025 09:41

Won’t there be scars OP? That would put me off … you say your boobs already look fine in the right bra so really this is just about how they look braless/naked and then any scars would show?

Teeth I would get done but this seems less beneficial

OuterSpaceCadet · 12/05/2025 09:45

I'm wondering if there's anything else that can be done as I don't like the thought of surgery or unnecessary general anaesthetic. Mine are just about ok now (mid 40s) but just keep increasing in size and I imagine the slide south is inevitable. Has anyone had positive experiences with building chest muscles underneath?

Cost and GA aside, I do think it's different to fillers and Botox. I also had a horrible (internal) reaction to a dear friend's tweakments because I loved her beautiful face and now she doesn't look quite right. I fully understand the pressures women feel, and feel them too, but don't underestimate what other people love you for!

Chewbecca · 12/05/2025 09:45

I would say is there any point in getting a boob lift at any time of life?
Have you been to Rigby & Peller? They're the best IMO.

Wakeupthedawnandaskherwhy · 12/05/2025 09:46

If it makes you happy and improves your quality of life then go for it!

dollyblue01 · 12/05/2025 09:49

I would say do chest presses at the gym it’s worked for me and some of my friends , not a quick fix , but if your consistent it does work, I’ve been doing it for about 6 months and it’s firmed up all the muscles around my chest and they are now lifted and perkier than they were, hard work but no scars and I was going the gym anyway.

TakeMeDancing · 12/05/2025 09:55

If it’s in lieu of the family holiday—no. I’d find another way to save up, which wasn’t at the expense of everyone else.

I wouldn’t recommend uplift/implants, as implants have a shelf life, so you’d need to start saving for the inevitable next surgery. You’d also need to accept that permanent numbness is a possible outcome.

I saved up to repair the diastasis recti in my abdomen, as I had spent years on regular physiotherapy exercises, which didn’t work. Surgery was a last resort, but it has been a complete game changer for my confidence (and I’m not a typical cosmetic surgery type, who would ever consider any other procedures, such as botox, lip fillers, etc).

And whatever you do, don’t go to Turkey, Lithuania, etc! Find yourself a reputable board-certified surgeon in the UK. This isn’t something that’s worth shopping around for the cheapest deal!!!

Back21970 · 12/05/2025 09:58

I don’t think you are in any way too old, I am nearly 60 and if I wasn’t squeamish I’d consider it.

I know a few folk who have had it done and were delighted with the results but I believe the recovery period is actually worse than for a breast enhancement.

I read last year about a thread lift technique but don’t think at the moment it’s very widely available - if it was I would maybe consider it as much less invasive even if the results are not permanent.

calamariqueen · 12/05/2025 10:05

I’ve read descriptions of the surgery and it doesn’t sound very nice, also the risk of numbness puts me off a bit. I’ve had a couple of GA’s so not overly concerned about that, and I think scarring is under boob so possibly not that visible?

I will look at exercise (as opposed to actually doing any 🤣🤣) as I ponder surgery.

I have never bought a really expensive bra, but they look ok in gossard, wolf & whistle etc. it’s in no bra that I feel they look very sad 😂 I think because my nipples also point kind of downwards they very much look like they’re farmyard udders 😵‍💫 I know that’s what they’re there for, but they were crap at that too and I’m not sure I’ve forgiven them for it!!

@TakeMeDancing totally agree about making sure it’s a reputable surgeon- definitely not an area I would consider trying to make a saving on.

Went to Turkey at Easter, so many new noses coming home!!

I think you typically have a scar running downward from your nipple too. Which would be visible once the nips are more central/upright

I’d be wary of thread lifts, they have a poor reputation on faces/jawlines so not sure they’d do better on boobs! But admit I don’t know much about it

calamariqueen · 12/05/2025 12:17

I don’t think I’d be that happy with a vertical scar, my sideways c-section scar has healed a bit lumpy and I think I’d hate my boobs if they were scarred and lumpy to boot 😰

I think the trouble is, that once you have one thing done like a boob lift, you start to see other imperfections and then want them fixed too. It’s why I won’t have Botox etc though I could do with it…I know once my face was sorted out I’d start seeing everything that was wrong with my body! It would never end 😂

1990s · 12/05/2025 12:25

There is a great long running thread about this where people talk about their experiences, going to find it

SoScarletItWas · 12/05/2025 12:27

I am 53 and looked into this about five years ago. Ultimately decided not to as I worried that the nipple repositioning could cause numbness and the anchor-shaped scar might not heal smoothly and then I’d really have something to be upset about.

If it was risk-free I would do it tomorrow. But it’s very risky with all the drainage that’s needed having an high risk of infection and the recovery is horrible, with results not guaranteed.

I have made my peace with the fact that they look fucking amazing in all my bras, I have a terrible lingerie habit that I indulge fully, and by the time anyone sees them without a bra they are already lucky to be there.

SnippitySnappitySnop · 12/05/2025 12:33

I don't think it's worth it because the body we want is not achieved by surgery, it's by youth and good genetics. The risk of death, things going wrong and scars which are not only a cosmetic issue as scars can cause discomfort if they keloid for example, all just make it not worth it. I'd invest in good comfortable bras. Even if your breast surgery went perfectly, the rest of you is aging and they will look like they don't belong to you.

SnippitySnappitySnop · 12/05/2025 12:35

Happiness and confidence that is linked to how your body look isn't real happiness and confidence, you're chasing a mirage.

Nothankyov · 12/05/2025 12:41

@calamariqueen - if you can afford it (which I believe you stated you can) and your healthy why not? It’s about how YOU feel and what YOU want. Whilst for some it might be an unnecessary surgery as they have accepted where they are, which is great but ultimately that doesn’t matter. We are living longer and there are many years ahead for you hopefully. Do what makes you happy. A good surgeon will make them look natural and not super round and perky so they won’t look like 20 year old breasts…

Just for info - this is not true for everyone. It’s certainly not been my experience.
