Lipbalm for scarred/cracked lips

DS (16 and ASC) has a couple of scabs on his lips that keep cracking (along with recurring mouth ulcers). Went to see a specialist who just recommended more sleep and water. He drinks plenty and is trying really hard on the sleep. In the meantime can anyone recommend a healing lip balm?

O’Keeffes Lip Repair & Protect is great and I’d highly recommend it

I love the white Nivea. I think it's car and repair. Put that in at night and my morning all is well. I'm a terrible picker and can pic my lips lots so they are often sore.

We used this recently for very cracked dry skin. Worked brilliantly and I’m sure it would be good for lips too, or there might be a lip balm in the range.

I'd change toothpaste to a natural one eg Kingfisher and see how he goes with that. If he's ok with lanolin then Weleda lip balm. Laneige lip mask at night.

None are healing but Vaseline out of the tub with the blue lid is really good. Not the Vaseline for lips but the original thick sticky one.
Do not use carex as it has an ingredient that causes irritation
There is a podcast on BBC sounds called ‘ Sliced Bread’ and they talk about lip balms in the latest episode. But they don’t recommend a specific one just what ingredients are good to have in them. But Vaseline came out as something that will definitely protect lips.

Shaggyinkcap · 11/05/2025 16:37

I don’t think you can beat the original Blistex. An oldie but a goodie!

StarTwirl · 11/05/2025 16:40

So this Vaseline and urm this nipple cream is very popular for dry lips
they are bringing out a lip version
you might not want to tell him it’s a nipple cream and just squeeze it into a pot to use Grin

Also as he might be dehydrated you could add a teaspoon of sugar and a teaspoon of salt to a bit of warm water to dissolve then top up with cold water to drink. He can have this a couple of times a day. It helps with the electrolytes in his cells.

he could apply the lanolin nipple cream first then a layer of Vaseline over the top

He could be what’s called a lip licker

Blistex relief cream is about to come back to the shops, at long last - it works best for me

EveryDayisFriday · 11/05/2025 17:31

The Nivea Hydro (white one) is my favourite. Also lots of water and sleep.

Whatadayyyyyyy · 11/05/2025 17:36

Another vote for okeefes it works amazing! Definitely give it a try

SirChenjins · 11/05/2025 17:39

Blistex - hands down the best thing ever and I’ve tried them all over the years. V difficult to get hold of so glad to hear it’s coming back. You can sometimes see it in places like Home Bargains so I stock up when I see it.

Pinkrabbitt · 11/05/2025 17:41

Aquaphor healing ointment

efeslight · 11/05/2025 17:42

Elizabeth Arden 8 hour cream is what I use

thistimelastweek · 11/05/2025 17:45

Blistex is good.
I also recommend Bepanthen ( yup, the nappy cream). Works great for me.

ElleDeeCB · 11/05/2025 17:49

Lanolin is really, really good.
The Lansinoh brand now has it in a lip balm tube rather than using the cracked nipple cream tube which he may find a bit embarrassing!! www.amazon.co.uk/Lansinoh-Lanolin-Lip-Balm-Moisturises/dp/B097C5D6P1?source=ps-sl-shoppingads-lpcontext&ref_=fplfs&psc=1&smid=A3P5ROKL5A1OLE&gQT=1

TheAutumnCrow · 11/05/2025 17:50

I always end up trying everything and going back to petroleum jelly (Vaseline or a store brand) on my gob and finger tips. Needs to be used liberally every day though to see progress.

Good luck. It’s horrible to have cracked skin.

ElleDeeCB · 11/05/2025 17:53

Another product that has lanolin is the Elizabeth Arden 8 hour skin protectant lip balm stick - bit easier to use and carry around than the lansinoh tube, but I’d still start with the landing tube to begin with.

Eucerin Acute Lip balm 👌🏻

digitalgirl · 11/05/2025 18:11

Thanks so much! This is great! I’m going to get a few different options so he can do a trial with them (appeal to his ASC brain). And any he doesn’t use i can have!

I find Burts Bees very good.

BeastAngelMadwoman · 11/05/2025 20:38

Best I've ever used is Nuxe Reve de Miel

uncomfortablydumb60 · 12/05/2025 00:20

O’Keeffes lip repair and protect( small orange tube) is the best I’ve used
contains SPF too

minipie · 12/05/2025 00:29

Burts Bees Night (in a little tub not a tube/stick) or Elizabeth arden eight hour cream

I have also tried the Eucerin and Blistex mentioned above but burts and 8 hr cream are better IMO. Vaseline does nothing for me.

not tried O Keefes
