How on earth do you decide which collagen to buy?

Obviously this only applies to those who actually take it, I know not everyone thinks it does anything but I'm willing to keep going with this a bit longer.

I've been taking Ancient & Brave since the start of the year but not sure it's the one for me. I also can't afford to pay £32 a month for it.

I've looked at Nutrition Geeks, Elevate and Willpowders but I'm a bit bamboozled with all the different claims and any pointers would be much appreciated!

I'm taking nutrition geeks collagen and I love it.
My hairdresser commented on how healthy my hair is. She actually said 'whatever you're doing it working for you'. It needed a lot of rebuilding after bleach damage. I do think my cheekbones are just a little bit fuller as well and I have a bit more of a glow. It's a bit grim drinking crushed up bones but in coffee with a little milk or water with diluting juice it's drinkable. NG is also cheap, it's about 16 quid for the month supply.

Karmacamelia · 10/05/2025 11:19

Thank for posting this, am also trying to decide - so many options!

LittleGreenDragons · 10/05/2025 11:40

I'm trying to find one for joint pain. I have no desire for luxurious hair as I have a pixie cut, nor am I bothered by wrinkles as I'm too fat to have any. However less joint pain would have a massive impact on my life especially since I can't have HRT.

I would appreciate it if anyone could say what they take for that particular symptom Smile

JohnnyMcGrathSaysFuckOff · 10/05/2025 12:05

I have just splurged on Hunter and thingummy marine collagen so will report back!

SparklyGlitterballs · 10/05/2025 12:08

I've started taking the Nutrition Geeks one too. I've not been on it long so no real differences yet, but I'm going to persevere for a while.

GrimDamnFanjo · 10/05/2025 12:27

It’s important to understand the type of collagen to take for the results you want - some of the research out there is a bit shaky too- there’s a thread on here somewhere which is helpful.

DancingDucks · 10/05/2025 13:22

There's just so many of them and the information is all a bit confusing.

Elevate have an offer on just now will free gifts which always makes me a bit suspicious, plus it's more expensive than A & B unless you subscribe and order more than one at the moment.

So much conflicting information!

Does anyone take the Will Powders one? Davina Taylor seems to be very passionate about her brand, but then I suppose she would be. 😁

@DancingDucks So I take collagen and researched quite heavily beforehand. So personally for me, I started with my goals which were joint, hair and skin health. So for that I would need type 1 and 3. Next was that I need to ensure it actually gets absorbed properly so that’s why I chose ‘hydrolysed’. Then I considered the source of the collagen. As joint health is so important to me I chose marine collagen as it is typically rich in that type 1 collagen. Thereafter, to ensure that the stuff actually is ‘real’ and quality as it were, and so not a waste of money, I ensured that it was 3rd party tested and was GMP compliant. I also chose powder form as I believe it’s better for absorption. Hope that helps!

This is so helpful @MoominMai , thank you. I think perhaps I should change to a marine collagen because I really want something to help with my joints too. Do you mind me asking which one you decided on?

@DancingDucks It’s Nutrabytes Marine Collagen 30 day supply. I’ve attached a photo below which should load once MN cleared it. I get mine from Amazon and at £23 I think it’s a very fair price compared to others given its strength and quality 🙂

Octocat · 10/05/2025 14:28

I don’t drink tea or coffee so disguising the taste will be difficult, what’s the taste of that one like, @MoominMai ?

MoominMai · 10/05/2025 14:38

@Octocat So I prefer to dissolve it in a pint glass of water and can’t taste anything which is a massive bonus. However, if I add it to a smaller volume of water it will likely taste a little fishy in which case I’ll just add a tiny amount of sugar free cordial beforehand and it sort of negates that flavour.

Thank you, yes that's a much more reasonable price than some.

I bought an instant pot and have been making bone broth which is full of collagen. It’s cheap and tasty if nothing else and works as a healthy snack

DeclineandFall · 10/05/2025 15:07

I've tried a few including Vital Proteins which is the Jennifer Aniston one but I seem to get better results with marine collagen re skin, nails. I'm on British Supplements at the momement and its cheap and does the job. The capsules don't taste of anything - I have to chew them because I am a fanny when it comes to pills.
The one that gave the best glow was Beauty Pies orginal one but then it gave me horrific diarrhea after 6 weeks. My sister went off Ancient and Brave bovine one and tried the British Supplements and she is finding them ok for her hips which is why shes uses collagen

deeahgwitch · 10/05/2025 15:20

There is another thread going in Style and Beauty with the title “Marine Collagen - Thank you” @DancingDucks
It has lots of helpful information.

CalmMauveUser · 18/07/2025 06:27

I have used well guard for a few months and now using Geeks glow collagen. I they really have helped my shoulder pain after a collar bone break . When I stopped taking for a week the pain returned .

Bivo · 18/07/2025 06:44

I am currently taking Elavate which I chose because it also had most of the other supplements in that I take and worked out cheaper than buying them all individually. My hair is thicker and nails are stronger and I think my skin is smoother. Not noticed it helping my joints yet.

It mixes well but it is unbearably sweet! I now have it in natural kefir which helps counteract it but it still has that gross sweetener aftertaste. My friend who drinks squash, Diet Coke, eats ‘light’ yogurt etc disagrees and says it’s not even that sweet though so I think I notice it because I’m not used to sweeteners.

Fedupwithneighbours · 18/07/2025 07:34

I use the willpowders one and like it very much. It dissolves easily and is tasteless in my coffee. Also put it in smoothies. I stopped taking it for a while, and restarted recently so noticed the change - better skin, reduced rosacea, stronger nails.

I previously used ancient and brave but I could taste it slightly and it didn’t dissolve as well. Plus much more expensive!

TeenLifeMum · 16/09/2025 22:59

Posting late but might help others. I’ve started with ancient and brave marine (wild) collagen (couldn’t choose between nutrigeek or A&B so ended up going for the jar so I can keep it next to the coffee jug and will remember it). I’ve been rather dubious but my skin was really suddenly looking like I’d aged. I’ve been taking it properly for a month and this week I’ve suddenly noticed a difference in my skin. It’s “glowing” and feels youthful. I’m also losing less hair in the shower too. Noticeably less. I don’t get joint pain so can’t speak on that. I’ve just ordered true collagen (still A&B but bovine not marine) purely because Boots had half price offer at £16.99 a jar and had sold out of marine. I’m hoping it’ll have the same impact. We’ll see.

Limmers14 · 16/09/2025 23:10

I take Revive Active joint supplement which has marine collagen in it. I think I have the mixed berry flavour. I’ve noticed my runners knee is less painful. Not sure if it’s had an impact on skin as I’m 34 and still have some wrinkles and have quite thick natural hair.

Timemyluckchanged · 26/12/2025 11:24

I use Nutrition Geeks and it’s been really good for my joints and skin. It’s a great price and blended into my daily smoothie it’s tasteless. Been taking it for about 6 months and it’s making a difference. I’ve thought about trying others but this is affordable and seems to be doing the job.

DancingDucks · 27/12/2025 10:58

I'm not seeing much difference with Willpowders. I'm thinking of giving Nutrition Geeks a go.

I was watching one or doctors on youtube how saying don't waste your money, it does nothing can't stay in the body it just comes out when you pee, so I won't bother.
