These suggestions are well meaning but I cant see one that my teenager would be seen dead in and I imagine OP’s DD is the same. How would she feel about covering her scars with makeup? You can buy specialist stuff, Where are they on her arm?

90swithcigarettesandalcohol · 29/04/2025 17:42

Or even this as they have off the shoulder tops like this and look nice

Unfortunately they are extensive and some are recent, some are very bumpy etc.

I really do appreciate all the suggestions.

She has said she doesn't want to go consistently for a few days now. She isnt attending school and doesn't think she would enjoy prom.

I keep trying to encourage her gently but shes quite adamant :(

My DD had this problem and we got her a lovely long sleeved prom dress I’ll ask her where it was from

The prom really isn’t all that, I wouldn’t push it as she really won’t be missing much, I would give her the money that would have been spent on a dress / hair and let her treat herself to something that she really wants

Zonder · 29/04/2025 18:34

Could she arrange to do something else on prom night? Family dinner at a nice restaurant? Movie night with a friend? Prom can really be tough for some kids.

90swithcigarettesandalcohol · 29/04/2025 18:39

No if she’s struggling with school it’s an extension of that and if she doesn’t want to go I wouldn’t push it. Maybe you could arrange a few friends round for her or take her and a friend for a nice meal out instead?

steff13 · 29/04/2025 21:07

Would a sleeveless dress with an opera-length glove work?

OMG some of these are so beautiful.
Ds2 has his suit sorted, I don't often long for a dd but I do now!
Hope she goes!

I would have done the same. I had to be strong armed to go to prize giving to collect my certificates.

I like the idea of giving her the money or doing something special.

I don't have scars on my arms but I do have psoriasis. I have a couple of tops that are either all lace or have lace sleeves, I'm a bit of a goth at heart.

I'm not sure prom is all that TBH - DD1 was canceled due to covid - Y10 when it started - and they did an informal meet up in local park with food and DS had a good night but it was one night but he quickly moved on.

DD2 wasn't a bit unsure but some of her friends changed their mind very last minute so she's happier. She has no scars but didn't want bare arms - there were options for that and the mesh sleeves work well with her dress.

She unlikely to be only one not there and they soon move on - so something nice with family sounds like a good idea.

Oh bless her. Could you take her away for a few days when the prom happens so she’s not sat at home thinking about it and is doing something she enjoys?

Loads here at a very reasonable price:

If DD really doesn't want to go to her Prom, that is fine and her choice.

If however, she has a good friend -or a small group of friends - that she would like to go with, she might be able to enjoy herself perhaps.

https://www.asos.com/other-stories/other-stories-satin-long-sleeve-maxi-dress-with-drape-back-in-green/prd/207095286#colourWayId-207095287 This mostly covers the arms, and looks Prom appropriate.

Broffee · 30/04/2025 21:04

Thankyou.

She wants to spend the dress money on a costume for comicon instead. So we will be making an awesome cosplay.

On the night of prom we will do something else. She doesn't like being away from home overnight but maybe a shopping/cinema trip.

Fabulous idea, I hope she has a blast at comicon.

I went through a phase where i didn't like showing my arms and it was limiting trying to find the right style of top/ dress. I bought a few of these sleeves and it made choosing an outfit easier.

TaranFollt · 01/05/2025 14:35

My link didn't work ... Google canopi sleeves!

Gunnersforthecup · 13/05/2025 08:06

I was just looking at the Outnet, and was surprised at how many of their 85% off fancy frocks had long sleeves.

eg https://www.theoutnet.com/en-gb/shop/product/zeynep-arcay/dresses/maxi-dresses/asymmetric-cutout-jersey-maxi-dress/1647597345625254

Also, I thought that this little lace top (£190 reduced to £29) might be useful to go under outfits (effectively providing lace sleeves) as a little pressie for your daughter maybe?

Hope all is going well for her x
