Help, it's a wedding guest one!

Im going to a wedding next Friday and initially had planned to wear one of two wrap dresses, pretty standard summer florals, but having tried them on this morning I just feel really down. My saggy yet full breastfeeding boobs make me look like a buxom yet frumpy mum. I know the mother of the bride is super traditional and not a fan of loads of cleavage so I'll just feel like I'm always checking and adjusting. There are also going to be lots of beautiful stylish people at this wedding so want to feel comfortable and confident.

I'm 5'4, 14/16 with broad shoulders and quite booby at the moment. Could ideally do with being able to wear a bra for this reason. A bit of a mum tum so a line or wrap as opposed to body con. Neutral undertone, dark brown hair, 31. Budget up to £100.

Please help!

I think monsoon do nice dresses suitable for weddings. Have you looked there?

Beerhy · 23/04/2025 16:06

I second monsoon. I got a lovely bridesmaids dress for my mums wedding. Was a wrap around and we just pinned the top so it was a less booby. Have you had a go at pinning the ones you have?

LostMySocks · 23/04/2025 16:10

Have you looked at a really good nursing bra - if you've been feeding a while hopefully your boobs will be more of a settled (albeit larger) size. There are some at bravissimo and hot milk

Take your dress to a fitting and see if that helps. To avoid cleavage flashing try a little gold safety pin from the inside.

Farr85 · 23/04/2025 16:10

You could get a lace panel or some extra stitches added to the front of the dress you wanted to wear to make it less booby

SugarPlumBaby · 23/04/2025 16:12

Have a look at yumi (Next sell them and do next day delivery) I ordered quite a few and they were lovely. I'm a similar size to you and also breastfeeding (although we will be child free so I don't need access at the wedding we are going to)

I went with this one in the end

Invest in a better foundation garment.

Personally I wouldnt worry about it too much. If you have recently had a baby and are still breastfeding cut yourself some slack. Save the £100 and put it towards something just for you that you really want not a dress that you might never wear again.

NancyJoan · 23/04/2025 16:26

H&M have got some great stuff at the moment, as have M&S. I'd buy something inexpensive, and spend the rest of your budget on a couple of well-fitting bras.

Waisted kaftan dress - Bright red - Ladies | H&M GB

I’m shorter than you and size 32gg bra, which is a real nightmare. The frumpy/too revealing battle is endless. Trying to cover them completely makes it worse. I have found that nothing fits better than a wrap dress, over a perfectly fitted bra, usually a smaller band and larger cup than you think, preferably fitted in person. I buy safety pins and use a couple inside at the top of the wrap so gaping isn’t an issue. Nothing will make you feel your best if the bra is a poor fit.

Londonmummy66 · 23/04/2025 17:14

Could you wear a vest top in a toning colour under the dress? If you are a bit booby (I am and don't have BF as an excuse) then the V neckline of the wrap will be flattering but the vest top with give you a bit of coverage and get rid of the Bet Lynch effect. I almost always wear a high scoop necked top underneath a v necked jumper/shirt etc for this reason. THere are some good pictures of the right and wrong way to do this here https://www.stylesense.net.au/the-modern-way-to-layer-wrap-dresses/

AgathaMystery · 23/04/2025 17:43

Have you got a really excellent bra?

MummyBethan · 23/04/2025 17:45

There are some lovely breastfeeding dresses on next or on milkymoon site. Or can you pop a vest under? a cami one?

JillMW · 23/04/2025 17:53

A complete lift swerve coming! Silky palazzo plants with either a matching loose top or a silk knit are a lovely look and very flattering. I walked into Fenwicks in some yesterday and was surprised when one of the sales managers came to tell me how stylish I looked and would I mind telling her we’re I got the pants.

BoldAmberDuck · 23/04/2025 19:29

You can buy ‘modesty panels’ online that are lacy and fit under the dress and cover the cleavage and can look nice. Cheaper than buying a new dress

Capybara6473 · 23/04/2025 19:32

I think people cut a lot of slack to breastfeeding mums. I think even pretty conservative people realise it’s a time when it is hard to dress and easy access is required. I’m sure you look lovely and obviously treat yourself
to some nice new clothes if you fancy, but don’t feel obliged to go out and spend lots of money if actually it’s going to be a relatively short season of life.

Flopsy145 · 23/04/2025 19:45

Thank you all, apologies haven't been on here since I posted!

To answer a few of you, no I do not have a decent bra. I've been wearing rather unsightly nursing bras or bralettes which don't really offer much support. I think a good bra and a safety pin might do for one of the dresses as it's a 16 so has some give to it. The other is 14 and probably won't close with just a pin.

I'm not a massive fan of the layer underneath/modesty panel I'm afraid, I would rather just have a neat neckline that isn't too plungey just on its own!

Funny you say that @JillMW as I love jumpsuits and fell in love with this one, which unless I can get breast surgery between now and next Friday is a no go 😂 but the palazzo and some sort of high neck shell crop top could work!

I will check out a couple of the brands mentioned - thank you guys!
If nothing jumps out I'll go with a good bra and safety pin for my current dress and spend the money on something fun!

@Jinkslinger posh barn, no church, probably dancing but not really by me as I'm driving so no drinking and never really up for a sober dance!

Get the jumpsuit you love and wear a plain but stylish top over it.

Squigface · 23/04/2025 21:58

Pretty Kitty wrap dresses are so flattering. There’s enough material over the boobs, they’re available in loads of colours and the material hangs nicely. This is just one of their many styles - have a browse.
lots are bra-friendly :-) prettykittyfashion.co.uk/products/dark-teal-floral-v-neck-crossover-top-empire-waist-swing-dress?variant=31722557800497&country=GB&currency=GBP&utm_medium=product_sync&utm_source=google&utm_content=sag_organic&utm_campaign=sag_organic&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAADlnuNcj0-HmNxuRy3PWwjI6y6XVZ&gclid=CjwKCAjwn6LABhBSEiwAsNJrjmOMtqIc5hVdgshecO_vYvvzUNOSixLFM2LdcaM-WZ8iwNo6CFuBZhoCgH8QAvD_BwE

Merryoldgoat · 23/04/2025 22:53

as a very large busted woman I think that you tend to look better accentuating them rather than hiding them. Lower neckline, plus really good balconette bra transforms an outfit.

I think wrap dresses are a bit mumsy generally - nicely fitted bodice with a fullish skirt is my go to.
