Thank you. I have ordered it!

frillseeking · 03/05/2025 09:10

@EducatingArtifab. Please report back!

frillseeking · 03/05/2025 09:11

@LilyRose88no M&S only seem to be doing a loose fit or the only slim fit shorts are the Bermuda style, nothing in between unfortunately! Good luck with Vinted

Feckinlego · 03/05/2025 10:06

Love this thread, fantastic advice! I'm looking for 2 things, firstly a summer cardigan in a neutral colour with natural fabrics, maybe with a bit more to it that just plain knit. I like classic colours with block colours. Maybe lace detailing or something?
Secondly, a pair of neutral sandals that are comfortable for walking but are still elegant and stylish.
Thank you 😊

MadAboutCarbs · 03/05/2025 23:27

Hi @frillseeking I would be hugely grateful if you could suggest some low block heel sandals, 2 inches or so max, for wide feet in a neutral colour to go with most outfits? I've been looking for so long and cannot find anything. I'd love to take them on my upcoming holiday!

I know exactly what you mean. Zara always do tops like this, I’ve actually got several in my own wardrobe as I don’t like too much material around the under arm in summer (hormones.) I’ve had a quick look and the only one I can find online is this one which comes in several colours but that would be my go to as they have them in every summer

Thanks! Zara is where my current ones are from. But looking for full length not cropped as well

LovelySG · 03/05/2025 23:52

Hi. This is so kind if you, @frillseeking

I’m 59, small hips and bottom, no waist, 5’3/ short, stocky legs. ‘Heavy’ size 12 top (34F) and slim/ size 10 bottom.

I’m wearing standard slim-straight jeans but would really like a more modern/ trendy shape. I’ve tried so many styles and nothing looks right:
Carrot, barrel, cropped wide leg etc - I look like a clown.
Full length wide leg just swamp me.

Do you have any ideas or recommendations for me please?

Thank you so much.

Meena50 · 04/05/2025 06:22

@frillseeking looking to go into the office more (media) - 5ft 6, big boobs, apple belly but feels in proportion, good legs but want to avoid heels. I think im a cool winter (dark skin)

Any tips for cool, non frumpy outfits? I'm stuck in a time warp of coloured blazers and black cropped trousers which hug my belly so i look a bit like Janet Jackson from the 90s! What i need is a full look so top, bottom and shoes!

I love pastel looks on dark women generally but not sure how i could pull it off without looking too suity. So I end up with bright coloured tops and look dated.

Sigh!

Isabelle70 · 06/05/2025 17:07

@frillseekingI kept looking at this jacket and purchased it today. Will it work with wide leg linen trousers?

That’s lovely isabelle70! Where’s it from? Definitely look great with wide legs. I’m trying to get my hands on a pair from M&S if their website ever comes back online.

Isabelle70 · 06/05/2025 20:30

Thanks @GinandGingerBeerfrom M&S Per Una. The online reviews say to downsize but I found my usual size was perfect.

EducatingArti · 08/05/2025 11:31

@frillseeking

Updating you as you requested .

Please can you advise as to what you think. The ivory colour is paler than I'd normally go for and I'm not sure if too pale for my colouring. ( No make up on at present!). The blouson sleeves are growing on me but I'm uncertain about it being a bit gathered at the bottom but below the waistline of my dress.

Really wanting totally honest opinions of everyone here!

Calling @frillseeking .
Sorry to keep on but I do really want to know what you think.
Is it too boxy? I'm thinking king the colour is ok? I need to know whether to send it back.

EducatingArti · 11/05/2025 10:59

Bumping this to see if anyone can help. What are your thoughts on this cardigan/jacket on me. It's for my mum's funeral. (We are asking people to wear colours instead of black).

If you don't think it is right ( I'm wondering if it makes me look even fatter than I actually am??!) do you have any other suggestions.

I'm not massively confident in making choices about clothing but really want to look good for this!

Floisme · 11/05/2025 11:11

I like the dress a lot but in the pic it does look a bit like you've lost your nerve and put on a cardigan to cover it up.

Do you need to wear anything on top? The forecast this week is 20+ degrees where I am although I know churches and crematoriums can be cold. If yes then I'd probably try either a more fitted cardigan / jacket or that same one as in the pic but in a less contrasty colour if they do it?

I'm very sorry for your loss.

Edited as I've just checked the link and I see it's only in black and ecru, sorry. However it also looks shorter and and a neater fit in the link so now I'm wondering if it would work better if you sized down?

Heavybuthopeful · 11/05/2025 11:45

What about the Per Una jacket a few posts above you? Similar colour but looks a bit more up to date?

EducatingArti · 11/05/2025 13:02

Oh, thank you so much for your advice. I thought about sizing down but if I did, it wouldn't go over my bust!

The funeral isn't until the end of May so I don't know what the weather will be like yet. I'm loathe to risk it and

I often have the problem that if I get something to fit on the bust then it is huge elsewhere. Do you have any suggestions for a more fitted cardigan/jacket?

EducatingArti · 11/05/2025 13:07

I wondered about this Seasalt one?

EducatingArti · 11/05/2025 13:08

Oops, link!!

Isabelle70 · 11/05/2025 17:28

@EducatingArti I prefer the Seasalt one, and she’s wearing it over a similar shaped dress to yours so that’s a positive?
I really struggle with the balloon sleeves as my arms are shorter and for me they just hang with the extra fabric.

EducatingArti · 11/05/2025 20:28

Thank you @Isabelle70
The JL one is definitely going back. I'm thinking about the Seasalt one. I agree I think the shape would be better. I'm concerned about it being "too white". I can take a variety of creams and ivory but proper white really drains me and makes me look ill.
I think the chalk colour looks off white enough but it is always difficult to tell online.

frillseeking · 09/06/2025 18:12

I’m so sorry I didn’t get back to you @EducatingArti. We had a sudden bereavement in our family.

I hope the funeral went as well as these things can go and that you felt comfortable in what you wore Flowers

EducatingArti · 10/06/2025 15:00

@frillseeking
I am so sorry that you are also experiencing bereavement.

In the end I went for a M and S textured cream jacket that I felt looked good on. See photo!

I did feel comfortable in it so thank you for all your help ( and that of others)
