@Blarnyou’re welcome. The last one is H&M, worth having a look in there as they’ve got lots of good pieces in at the moment. A lot of the blouses are very high neck this season so it is tricky to find something that works for your shape but there are little gems out there. Happy shopping!

Supergluerules · 30/04/2025 11:05

Hi @frillseeking I'd love some ideas for a 3 day UK conference I'm going to this month please? I'm 5'2" with an increasingly solid middle section. Currently 14/16. From previous pics, it looks semi-formal. There will be lots of networking with industry leads. Shoes I can wear travelling there and during the day would also help with packing. Thanks 😊

Hello

im looking for cotton (or natural fibre) tees/tanks with ruffle shoulders (ideally big ruffles not little frills!). But the catch is there needs to be no fabric under the arms. I have a couple but they are getting tatty and everything I can find is a tee with a proper short sleeve and then a ruffle. I need what is essentially a tee with the sleeves cut off and then a ruffle attached. This kind of thing but ideally a bigger stiffer ruffle! Alternative suggestions of natural fibre basic-ish tops for summer with no fabric under the arms but that aren’t clingy and skimpy also welcome :) thanks!

@SupergluerulesI saw this printed shirt dress the other day and thought how smart and chic it would be for summer workwear. I love the cleanness of the print. I’ve also linked in black so you can see the shape. Just a really, easy smart style that you can throw on but look completely pulled together.

I'm trying to update my accessories a bit. I've got into a bit of a rutt of one of my two necklaces and I definitely feel that af ew more statement necklaces etc would be good. But I'm not really sure what's in fashion, plus I have to take into account I'm a size 16 with large breasts and a bit of a tummy so tend to wear v-neck styles.

I put on a white v-neck t-shirt today with some linen trousers and it looked good but it needed something on the neck.... I just have no idea what. Any ideas?

frillseeking · 30/04/2025 11:24

I know exactly what you mean. Zara always do tops like this, I’ve actually got several in my own wardrobe as I don’t like too much material around the under arm in summer (hormones.) I’ve had a quick look and the only one I can find online is this one which comes in several colours but that would be my go to as they have them in every summer

@MattCauthonI’d go for a gold drop pendant style, something like one of these that are statementy without being OTT

@frillseeking do you have any suggestions for me maybe (page 1)?

frillseeking · 30/04/2025 22:09

Sorry @Sunbeds, I’ll have to have a proper look for something like this. It’s difficult because all of the styles around at the moment are for spring/summer and obviously your son’s wedding isn’t until next year. Have you had any thoughts about what you’d like to wear? Would you like to go for a traditional mother of the bride style or go for something more modern/ not as formal? As the wedding is at a venue, I’d probably suggest going for something a little more informal but as the mother of the groom, you have free rein to go as dressy as you want. I can tell from your post you’re feeling anxious about it and worrying about what the mother of the bride will wear but with an athletic frame and a slim build, you will be able to pull off most styles. I’d play to your strengths and wear something figure hugging like this gorgeous crepe style. This would be hard to pull off with a curvier figure and would look really elegant.

@frillseeking that is really lovely but can’t find it on the MyTheresa site.
I have concentrated more on trying to predict the weather, silly as it sounds! March could be snowing and we’re all staying in Pods the night before and walking up to the venue.
Also, they are having Caribbean spicy wraps for the wedding breakfast and (again stupidly) I’m thinking about the sauce and my gorgeous dress!
Thank you so much. I don’t want to hog the thread.

frillseeking · 01/05/2025 11:13

@SunbedsIt’s a Roland Mouret dress. I’ve linked below for you. Worth looking at if budget allows as there are lots of beautiful styles that would be suitable if you want something chic and modern. Obviously without knowing more details it’s hard to make suggestions but I wanted to give you an idea of what I would go for. If you would like more help, I do a lot of event styling so just drop me a PM if you’re interested.

This sort of style would work in all sorts of weather so you would feel comfortable in all eventualities. I totally understand why you are worrying, I’d be worrying about the food too! You’ll have to make sure you have some extra large napkins! Im
sure the bride must be worrying about that too!

@frillseeking What do you think of wearing a gauzy or crochet lightweight jumper over summer dresses? For when it’s cooler or to cover the arms? I have some strappy dresses that don’t get enough wear.

LilyRose88 · 01/05/2025 17:20

I've been looking for some shorts, but having recently lost a lot of weight my legs have ended up looking rather skinny. I've tried on quite a few different styles, but my legs look frankly ridiculous and I am at a loss to work out what style of shorts would look best. I'm a size 10-12 with longish legs but I am post menopausal so definitely don't want any that show off my bum cheeks 😂. Equally I look very silly in the longer length shorts/jorts. Any ideas?

EducatingArti · 01/05/2025 17:31

@frillseeking
I have got this dress to wear to my mum's funeral. We are asking people to wear colours rather than black/dark.

I think I need a cardigan/jacket to go over it in case the day is cold.

I am a petite size 16 with a large bust (34G). I am thinking that I might need a collarless jacket because of the collar on the dress.

I am a light spring I think in colour analysis.

Any suggestions?

Amber Double Cloth Midi Dress-Paradise Green

Come summer, we're in favour of a spot of smocking; that's where the Amber dress comes in. Cut from double cloth, it's shaped with a flowing skirt, puffy sleeves and a smocked bodice. Oh, and pockets? Of course we didn't forget those.

@DaisyYellowGoldyes absolutely! You’d wear a lightweight jumper with a skirt so why not with a dress. I often take one on holiday for cooler evenings to chuck on over a strappy dress and they’re handy if you’ve caught too much sun too!

DaisyYellowGold · 01/05/2025 20:05

Thank you, next question, have you seen any around? Pref cropped?

frillseeking · 02/05/2025 14:39

@DaisyYellowGoldI came across these two actually today when browsing new in. I like the band which pulls the style in

@EducatingArtiI’m sorry for your loss. The dress you’ve chosen is beautiful. I’d wear it with a navy edge to edge style jacket. I like this whistles jersey style for something that is more of a throw on style and I like the clearness of the style. Or if you wanted something more formal, this little jacket from Joules would be a good option. Also bonus points it doesn’t have ant breast pocket details which is always good to avoid with a larger bust.

I hope the funeral goes as well as these things can go.

@frillseeking Thank you for your advice. I tend not to wear navy close to my face as I find it quite draining. I also have brown bag and tan sandals. ( Sorry I should have mentioned that before.) Do you think an edge to edge jacket in a warm neutral or cream would work and if so, do you have any specific suggestions?

EducatingArti · 02/05/2025 15:29

What about this or is it too granny knit?

frillseeking · 02/05/2025 17:12

@EducatingArtiI’m not sure on that one. I think something like this would work better with the dress and the colour would sit back better with the green. It looks a little smarter I think. That’s what I would veer towards personally

@LilyRose88I would suggest something like this style. Neither too long or too short and quite slim fitting in the leg. A lot of the shorts around are quite full or have pleats so that’s going to make your legs look even skinnier. You want something that fits closer to your leg without being skin tight.

Thank you so much. I actually saw a very slim lady today wearing some similar shorts and she looked great. I will try and find some and give them a go. M&S doesn’t seem to have any so I might look on Vinted.
