Calling lovers of boho, quirky, vintage clothes - help please!

I'm now retired and can finally dress to please myself after many years of smart, professional outfits and sensible, Mumsy weekend clothes.

I've been slowly building up a wardrobe of clothes that reflect my true preferences, which chime with what I wore as a teenager (late 60s, early 70s), which was a mix of hippy, Biba, boho, vintage Edwardian & Art Deco.

I spend a lot of time on Vinted, searching through clothes by Monsoon & East. I've also used the search terms Steampunk and Goth as they've thrown up some interesting jackets.

Are there any labels I'm missing? What else could I search for?

Please feel free to share any treasures from your own wardrobe for inspiration!

I would say any secondhand stuff online ask for measurements not size.

I have a Laura Ashley silk top (charity shop) in charcoal grey with a stylised white floral pattern. It's slightly oversized but that makes it loose and has lovely flowy sleeves.

Edited for typos

I still have a Laura Ashley dress from the 70s with a 'Made in Wales' label. Yes I'm shamelessly bragging but also posting to warn anyone thinking of buying one online that mine is labelled a size 10 but would almost certainly be a 6 today. I'm officially still a size 10 but I can't get the zip higher than my waist.

And absolutely no way am I 'decluttering' it so don't even ask Grin

I was about to post similar. The sizes of these vary wildly (they're usually small, but not always!) so always get measurements.

Clothes label- All about Audrey and Joe Browns.
Try also searching whimsigoth or cottagecore I've had some lovely skirts and dresses from those tags.

Do not look at Joe Browns, they are to clothes as Chris Rea is to music.

Brilliant!

And so true!

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 11/04/2025 12:13

Disturbia link again

CharlesPetrescu · 11/04/2025 12:38

Monsoon is worth a look for boho colourful clothes

MargotB · 11/04/2025 12:47

Phool
Adini
Anokhi

Happy shopping!

quirkychick · 11/04/2025 12:51

I would agree that both Free People and Forgotten Tribes have variable quality.

I'd forgotten Anokhi - there used to be a shop where I grew up, beautiful clothes

nothingagainstyourrightleg · 11/04/2025 13:06

Free People
Boho Tusk
Llama Leggings

LoveDandelions · 11/04/2025 13:11

Oh, that's reminded me. I have got the most amazing Anokhi hippy dress - I think it's an older one (but not one of the lovely floaty cotton ones). I never feel brave enough to wear it! It's very 70s...

ithinkicanithinkican · 11/04/2025 13:16

I was a full-on goth and practically lived in Kensington Market at the weekends. Happy days.

Gundogday · 11/04/2025 13:16

Also, do searches such as ‘crochet’ and that brings quite a good selection on the Next website.

Gundogday · 11/04/2025 13:19

Also, just remembered this shop in Poole who I’ve just discovered has a website.

I was a size 12 in the 70/ 80s now I wear a 10/12 and I weigh a stone more.

I have a wardrobe full of Laura Ashley dresses from the 70s and 80s that I hope one day I'll be slim enough to wear again

There's a current thread about decluttering. I don't do much decluttering but I wish I'd held on to more of my Laura Ashley dresses.

OP if budget isn't restricted there's Kindred of Ireland, Egg, Casey Casey, Bergfarbel, Album di Famiglia, Apuntob

More sensible budget, Palava.

Oh I wish I'd kept hold of all my Laura Ashley...

I suggest:
Toast
Desigual
Disturbia
Maybe some Gudren Sjoden
Monsoon

Shetlands · 11/04/2025 21:20

I wish I'd kept my Biba things! When I was 16/17 we visited friends in London one summer and I went to the Biba sale. This was when it was in Kensington Church Street before they moved to the big store. They were practically giving the clothes away and I bought several items, which I wore with aplomb back home at the church youth club basement discos! 😂

The Anokhi dresses go for high prices, so if you’re not going to wear it you could sell it.

I'm sure they do, their shop used to be very pricey in the 80s! They were definitely high-end hippy.

I would second Toast
also Plümo (pricey but you can sometimes source their items elsewhere).
Brora knitwear
One Hundred Stars - though a thread on here questioned their current quality
