Warning. M&S Sienna jeans change in size!

I know they aren’t the most stylish but I love M&S Sienna jeans. I ordered a new pair and picked them up today. I noticed that the internal label had changed and thought I’d best try them on to be sure they fit before I washed them.

Good job I did, they are notably smaller. Same size, same style, same length but a lot smaller.

I just thought I’d warn others. There is one or two reviews in the website saying the same.

The picture shows them lined up at one side and you can see the difference is noticeable.

Gosh same here! The 14 i have worn about 4 times and washed, they are too big now ive lost moee weight. I ordered 2 pairs of size 12, one isnr too bad but thw darker pair are so tight! Plus I ordered some things for holiday and 2 t shirts are terrible. One looks like it's been ironed with a too hot iron and it's shiny at parts and the other looks really cheap (it wasnt)
I was going to post a thread regarding their online models, i thought the poses were ridiculous and didn't show the clothes off at their best angles. Anyway I've still to try on a couple of things but I think the full order will be going back 😞

This isn’t the point of the post but don’t u just hate it when shops websites show models with their hair covering most of the dress or top ? Like we can’t even see the item of clothing . I don’t care what the model looks like , just show me the top !!!! It boils my blood . Move her hair !!!

BumbleBeegu · 10/04/2025 21:10

Ahh that explains it! I bought my usual size 16 Sienna jeans on Saturday…didn’t try them on in store as these are my usual jeans! I was gutted when I put them on yesterday and couldn’t even pull them over my hips! I’ve even LOST 6lbs since my last new pair, so I was even more upset!

That's a ridiculous size change from them fgs! They really owe customers some sort of explanation. Nearly half a stone is a big loss size wise too xx

CuriousKangaroo · 11/04/2025 13:01

I’ve always felt that M&S sizing was too generous. A size 10 in M&S is more like a 12 elsewhere. It’s the only shop I’m an 8 in and I am DEFINITELY not a size 8! So perhaps they are trying to standardise sizing against other shops?

Notonthestairs · 11/04/2025 13:15

Surely doesn’t matter what they do with their sizing as long as they advertise it clearly and in advance to their customers?

otherwise they are saddling customers with a lot of unnecessary returns and faff.
no idea why anyone would defend it.

Peachbubble · 11/04/2025 14:04

Yes, I noticed this too! Thought it was me putting on a few pounds, but this confirms it's not!

Reddelilah · 11/04/2025 14:15

I wish that instead of a number (8,10,12 etc) they would just use the waist size (eg 26,28,20) and inside leg length (eg 28,30). That’s much more useful and less a how men’s jeans are sold

Reddelilah · 11/04/2025 14:16

Because an 8 in M&S is not the same as one in other brands - it’s too vague!

It’s not just a size 8…its an M&S size 8 😀

OP - that difference is ridiculous!

ElsaSnow · 11/04/2025 15:25

@SidebeforeselfGrin

I actually bought the “Lily” style last week - same size I’ve always been - already had them in black and a different shade of blue, found them tighter than usual but thought I’d just put on weight. Hopefully it’s the jeans not me!

Sue1952 · 11/04/2025 15:53

Yes it’s happened to the Eva jeans too, plus their not as high waisted.

Yes but I bought the exact same jeans, style, colour, size, even the same product code. There shouldn’t be such a noticeable difference between two items that claim to be the same product. It doesn’t matter what they call it, or if they made up their own sizing code even, it’s not unreasonable to expect the same product to be the same each time.

I've bought clothes from m&s identical tops and trousers in different colours and they've been completely different sizes. I don't feel I can safely buy online anymore

howdoyoudooooo · 11/04/2025 18:10

I’ve found the total opposite with M&S - although same as what a couple of posters have said - their vanity sizing is mad. I’ve lost quite a bit of weight and gone from a 16 to a 10… and yet in the 90s I was about a stone and a half lighter than I am now and was a 12. I definitely don’t look or feel like a 10, but the 12 is too big at M&S. And this is current stock I’m talking about, so I haven’t seen this change (yet).

SilvieBear · 11/04/2025 18:12

They did this with the Lily too.
The 14P was a totally different size (& material) - the most recent pair I bought was noticably bigger than all 3 of my other 14P Lilys. So bloody annoying.
They must’ve changed supplier.

Brands do resize sometimes. H&M did it and Zara a while back to get in step with standard sizing . But they made the change clear on their website.
m&s may have done this as their sizing was way too generous. But they should have indicated on their website

ImWearingPantaloons · 11/04/2025 18:59

This is what I mean when I say I don’t believe in vanity sizing - it’s like clothing manufacturers consciously decide to use less fabric, call it a 16 instead of a 14 then say ‘sorry chubs, it’s you not us…’

You don’t believe sizes have got bigger? It’s not really up for debate. People have clothes from 20,30,40 years ago and the same size has progressively got bigger.

Notonthestairs · 11/04/2025 19:05

Vanity sizing is irrelevant here - this isn't about vanity sizing.

It's about changing key elements of a product without informing or alerting the buyer.

DelphiniumBlue · 11/04/2025 19:29

I'm glad you brought this up OP, I tried on several pairs of jeans at M&S in my usual size 18 the other day, and was horrified when they were all much too tight.. thought I must have put on weight without noticing after a winter of joggers! Thanks for flagging it.

I agree that if they are changing their sizing they should make that very clear. I accept it must be annoying, OP.

Exactly. It doesn’t matter what the size is called. If they sell the same product with the same name, same product code then it’s reasonable to expect it to fit the same. What they call the size is an irrelevance.

If it’s any help, I’ve liked the M & S Sienna and have now switched to French Connection (cigarette cut). These used to be the straight cut. A fab fit and cut.

SnoozingFox · 11/04/2025 20:38

Their sizing is very inconsistent. I have two pairs of Lily jeans from M&S, bought 3 months apart, both size 14 short. One fits fine. The other is too big.

despairdespair · 11/04/2025 20:45

I have always been 16 . They have definitely changed the sizing.Since last year I cannot get new trousers to do up ,now having to wear size 18 . I have also recently lost weight..about a stone.
