I used to was a huge CK fan, at one point I had about 80 of her items, my house was like CK shop, tens of bags, mugs…
I loved visiting their cute little shops scattered around the country and always finding something lovely to buy..
Also you could see many people wearing CK bags, I could always count seeing a few daily and I live in small town.
But now all is gone.
I mean- they are still trading online at Next and apparently there is new CK shop in London but it’s not the same.
The new designs from Next are not like those what made CK famous, they are unpretty patterns, which could be find in any other shop.
What a shame!
I just looked on CK at Next at their sale bits and all bits there since I looked 3 weeks ago, nobody buys there anymore..
Even when I buy a newish item ( made by Next) it doesn’t give me the same lovely feeling I had when I purchased it in their own shop.
plus the prices are hideous, same style small bag that used to cost £15 is now £60.
I still have about 20 bags I bought pre Covid and I’m seriously thinking selling them all ( I don’t think there is actually even interest in them as few are listed online already and nobody even looked) and just forget all about it.
Anyone has the same?

There are niche brands out there taking up this space though.
Sunshine Collective, Frugi and Little green radicals do a similar job!

I saw a home tour of CK and everything was white and minimal, so not what I would have expected.

BadSkiingMum · 09/04/2025 07:29

I liked the items and was sorry when it closed down. But I am sure that I have seen a standalone shop in London, probably aimed at the tourist market.

I still have a small cross-body bag and an overnight bag as my holiday/hand-luggage bags. Plus some nice china.

Perhaps people are admiring my vintage style as I go through the airport? 😊

BirraMoretti · 09/04/2025 07:31

The standalone shop is inside Next at Westfield Shepherds Bush.

Well it makes sense - it would be like ‘a busman’s holiday’ for her otherwise if she’d been working with prints all day and then came home to a load more.

Perhaps there are a couple? I think the one I saw was in a station.

There's one at St Pancras Station

As a PP says, I think it got too big and everywhere, same as Emma Bridgewater, they both seem a bit twee and dated now.

dudsville · 09/04/2025 09:20

I have 4 sets of her woven cotton pj's and a robe, from years ago. I loved the soft cotton they chose. I did panic buy a few sets in the closing down sale, but didn't keep any of them because the styles were too ridiculous.

Back about 13 years ago, before I came into my style, I was given a blue dot hand bag. It's since been used a a fabulous toiletries bag for travel. I don't think it's ever going to show signs of wear!

dudsville · 09/04/2025 09:21

And I think Orla Kiely is similar I love the cotton they chose for bedding, but I wouldn't have anything else in my home.

I still adore my canvas overnight bag. Navy with green dots. I love her dotty stuff, not so keen on the flowery plastic. My wellies are still going strong as well.

cantthinkofausername26 · 09/04/2025 09:22

So true! I used to love going into the cath kidston shops and wishing I could buy everything. I don’t care if it’s not trendy anymore, I still love it and have picked up some lovely bits on vinted and marketplace. Unfortunately though I do think the bags have had their day. Shame x

Chocchips123 · 09/04/2025 09:33

I still like it , the floral stuff not the Disney stuff. I just got a new purse on next it's pink with hearts that also has floral print. I don't love the gold stamped logo though, prefer thr label logo. I have a bag too. Infact I might go look on eBay for a bag now lol. I have not done that in a while. I'm into a bit of cottagecore but not as a trend because I don't follow trends.

Oh yeah forgot I have 2 overnight bags. The folding ones. And the strawberry print picnic blanket . I also get all the new bags that Tesco do for shopping lol. Unless it's an ugly print I don't like.

Apologies for quoting myself, but am now dreaming up a sort of ‘Yellow Wallpaper’ story whereby Cath returns home after a long day at the chintz mill and then the sight of one polka dot too many sends her completely doolalley…

My cats are very much in favour of their Cath Kidston igloo (it was a gift from a friend whose cat rejected it 😹)

My cat has a Cath Kidston bed.

Funny seeing this thread as I’m having a sort out and my once loved CK bags have gone into a black refuse bag and will be going to the tip along with a load of other junk.

Tip? For goodness sake take to charity!

Yeah, that’s was the issue with some of the bags, they got yellowed, it was the glue they used, especially the light colour bags got all ruined cos of it.
I remember I purchased the Richmond rose bowel bag, it was grey with pink roses, beautiful large bag, I paid £80 and it all got yellowed soon after I bought and I never even got to use it…that was disappointing, so I avoided to buy anything light there.
I wonder if they changed the glue now..

I had a pale bag with spots, the one with the pockets at the ends. I had to throw it out as it yellowed. I really liked the shape though. So weirdly just last night bought one from Vinted, and then read this thread today.

Housewife2010 · 09/04/2025 11:41

I was a huge CK fan from around 2006 and bought loads of her products, particularly when my children were small. I started to lose interest when I could see it everywhere and it became ubiquitous. I never had bags, but I still have kitchenware and a dressing gown that I still like and use.

Yeah, I don't get why you would sell things you still like so you can "just forget all about it."
What does that even mean? Why can't you just like things for the individual items they are without seeing them as part of a specific designer's range that you have to fully commit to for the rest of your life?

I can't imagine thinking 'Oh Topshop closed down so I'd better get rid of all my old Topshop clothes now I can't buy any new ones.'

By all means don't buy new stuff if you don't like it, but getting rid of old stuff just because you don't like the new stuff is bizarre.

i still like it but as everyone here says it sadly had its day and nobody uses the bags anymore.
Before I would see lots of people have one in the town.
It’s just seems all out of fashion and I sort of changed my style too meanwhile and using another bags, even though I still like some of it, the original love is gone.

It felt different before.
Whoever did not follow CK, I guess they wouldn’t understand.
It felt like happy times going into their little shops full of colourful beautiful things,
I didn’t know what to buy first, bags were hanging everywhere, on the walls, under the tills , beautifully arranged on the bright tables, everything was cute and tucked in around giving a warm home feel.
I went to the late shop they had in Piccadilly before they shut down in June 2023 and it felt cold, impersonal and basic.
I believe they have now a shop in Westfield and it does seem to have the same cold, impersonal style as in Piccadilly..

I love a big mug and have a few Stanley’s. They were originally made from porcelain. The Next version are stoneware and very thick, not a patch on the original
