I know nothing about make-up - but want a light "no make-up" makeup look. I hate foundation. What else could work?

Tinted moisturiser? Though "miracle balms". I just want something to bring my skin to life a bit, on the days where i CBA with concealer/blush, etc. My skin tone is dark brown (think typical South Asian skin).

Any product recs?

@GIRFEChahaha i use one or the other. CC in the summer, BB in the winter when I want a bit more coverage.

The Milk one is next on my list to try @ThePoshUns so good to read a positive comment about it. I spotted it just after I’d purchased and opened a different one - RMS (which is nice, but possibly a bit on the heavy side for me and not quite the right shade 🙄)

I’ve got Milk skin tint, that was recommended when I went into space NK. It’s build able so can add more in areas where needed and gives a lovely, dewy glow. I’d like to try Lisa Eldridge next as love her ‘look’.

I love the Milk skin tint, I've been so impressed with it but I do feel it's at the top end of what could be considered a tint. I think for someone looking for a no make up tint it could feel a bit too close to foundation. The days where I just want to tone down redness and not do makeup I use the Erborian CC cream.

StubbornStool · 05/04/2025 09:12

Tilbury flawless filter

OvaHere · 05/04/2025 09:15

I also want to try the Hourglass Veil tint at some point as it gets very good reviews and I really like the foundation so feel like it will be good. Not a budget option though!

Liondoesntsleepatnight · 05/04/2025 09:17

Bare minerals foundation powder is a game changer

booksandbakinglover · 05/04/2025 09:19

I use the L’Oréal true match tinted serum. It’s really light and minimal coverage (can still see my freckles underneath). I swear by this product and will use it till my last dying breath

FiddleFigs · 05/04/2025 09:43

I have similar colouring and use Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser (light revealer in Almond), with a dusting of bronzer (Bobbi Brown) and a bit of blusher. That’s as much makeup as I can deal with on a daily basis. It is quite lightweight coverage though. I’ve been wearing this combo for years.

florasl · 05/04/2025 09:43

I’d recommend having a look at Jones Road for a natural make up look, founded by Bobbi Brown.

Erborian CC cream. They sell small tester sized tubes. It’s fab.

Do they sell the testers in Boots? I’m not sure what shade I need .

Ginmonkeyagain · 05/04/2025 09:51

I hate foundation too. ELF Halo glow is great for giving your skin a bit of an more even, glowy look. I sometimes complete it with the matching setting powder.

Gardendiary · 05/04/2025 09:51

@buzzheath You need glossiers perfecting skin tint. You’ve basically described how I feel about makeup. I don’t get on with foundation but this is a liquid that you can put on with your fingers and just makes your skin look more finished.

Jumping on this to ask which of these might be good for sensitive skin?
I have Bare Minerals original which is fine and NARS tinted moisturiser which makes my eyes itch if I use it too many days in a row.

I'm in my 60s and the Lisa Eldridge skin tint works really well for me. I put it in top of my serum and moisturiser.

I actually asked a women who was working as a receptionist in a building I was visiting what she had on her face as it was glowing and looked so pretty, it was elf haylo glow liquid filter. It's comes in loads of shades and is very light on the the skin but also budget friendly 😁

I've got this. It really is very good indeed and a bargain. I also highly recommend Lily Lolo mineral foundation, which is a powder one. They do samples so you can test a few to find out what works best.

I love Trinny London BFF for this purpose!

This yes! I was just coming on to recommend Trinny London BFF. All her products are amazing 👏
I'm usually a Clarins type of person and hate buying online so it's a big thing for me to buying (and more than once) something I can only buy online (she does have a shop in London and did have a pop up in Brum where I originally bought this).
It's very light and is a 30 spf so wore this all day on holiday as my sun cream. I'm a pale skin and buy the light shade but there's a few different 'shades' which I imagine react to different skin tones so you'd need to buy 'dark' shade. I wear a little bit every day even days I 'don't wear make up' you can use it as a base or top up too.

FYI... Trinny's neck cream is amazing too - I started using it in January and my hubby last week said how good my neck was looking - and he didn't know I'd bought it or was using a neck cream. See I'm obsessed!

Offredismysister · 05/04/2025 13:49

I’ve had the hourglass veil tint & am currently using the Lisa Eldridge skin tint. I colour matched them both on the space nk shade selector online & both are a great match. I do like them both but if I had to call it I’d say the Lisa Eldridge has the edge, just a bit more coverage but nice & dewy.

MonGrainDeSel · 05/04/2025 23:48

Trinny London is not going to work well for someone with a non-european skin tone. The range of shades is laughable.

Dogaredabomb · 06/04/2025 05:48

I use clarins smooth perfecting primer. There's no colour to it but it makes your skin look evened out and mops up any grease.

PastaLaVista3 · 06/04/2025 05:56

hiya I’m a similar skin shade

i needed a bit of light coverage due to acne scars, and wanted SPF

i have very sensitive skin (allergic to nars foundation) and have been using bare minerals complexion correcting tinted moisturiser in Spice.
they have a good selection of colours and it is SPF 30 and buildable coverage. https://www.bareminerals.co.uk/products/complexion-rescuetinted-moisturizer-hydrating-gel-cream?variant=44828216492325&currency=GBP&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=&gclsrc=aw.ds&gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAApvw0w2SW7tUzIJOJ4lW3qafityne&gclid=Cj0KCQjwqcO_BhDaARIsACz62vP3YdCGy-sX4rScpV5lEpZd3nQFA3SlRiCt6AQck6YQ9PKytKK1InQaAtrPEALw_wcB

really recommend it! Very light, easy to put on, looks glowy and very natural - makes you look put together

you must visit a counter tho and get matched, using their online colour match guide does NOT work

I’ve also brought the powder foundation to use instead of / over it on times I’d like a bit more coverage.

IBloodyLoveMyBlanket · 06/04/2025 06:22

I’ve been very disappointed by Laura Mercier tinted moisturiser, it’s far too heavy and sits in my pores, even when I ‘dilute’ it with moisturiser,

Glossier skin tint is my go to, I should never have strayed from the path!

kaela100 · 07/04/2025 13:45

Depends on your skin tone. If you're white anything will work from IT cosmetics to Erborian to Trinny to Korean brands. The blurring technologies they work only work for fair skin and can make the rest of us look grey.

If you're not not white then I personally would go for a skin stick or an all purpose concealer instead for better coverage and pair it with decent setting sprays / primers for it to last all day. NARs, Bobbi Brown, Mac / Estee Lauder are all good for this.
