I know nothing about make-up - but want a light "no make-up" makeup look. I hate foundation. What else could work?

Tinted moisturiser? Though "miracle balms". I just want something to bring my skin to life a bit, on the days where i CBA with concealer/blush, etc. My skin tone is dark brown (think typical South Asian skin).

Any product recs?

I actually asked a women who was working as a receptionist in a building I was visiting what she had on her face as it was glowing and looked so pretty, it was elf haylo glow liquid filter. It's comes in loads of shades and is very light on the the skin but also budget friendly 😁

Motnight · 04/04/2025 19:21

This! It's amazing, though I would go to a department store to try out the colours. It actually feels lighter on me than the Erborian cc and BB creams, and makes my skin look fresh and glowy.

Erborian CC cream. They sell small tester sized tubes. It’s fab.

I second this.
It doesn't provide any coverage but makes your skin look healthier and more glowy

Purplevioletblu · 04/04/2025 19:28

I recommend going to a makeup counter, they will be able to colour match and advise on best products. Nicky La Rose also does a good beginners makeup tutorial on YouTube.

midtownmum · 04/04/2025 19:28

I love glossier perfecting skin tint. Next to no coverage, just makes my skin look nice. They have lots of labelled photos of people with different skin tones to help you choose.

Purplecatshopaholic · 04/04/2025 19:29

Another vote for Erborian CC cream. It’s fab - and I have tried quite a few. Also has SPF in it.

ElleWoods15 · 04/04/2025 19:40

I love the Lisa Eldridge tint. She also does a really light foundation (Seamless Skin Foundation) for the days when you want more coverage. You can use the tool on the Space Nk website to check whether it’s in stock in your local branch, and highly recommend going in and getting matched for the colour. They also do the Nars tinted moisturiser so if for any reason the LE doesn’t work for you, you’d have other options.

Also highly recommend Natura Bisse Diamond Cocoon Sheer Eye for lightening under the eyes. It’s spenny but lasts and you only need a tiny amount - so worth it!

whatnoooow · 04/04/2025 20:02

Bare minerals.

For a budget friendly option I love l’oreal true match plumping serum, it has a good range of shades and is in boots/superdrug for testing.

Second this. Great range of shades and a lovely finish on the skin.

tobee · 04/04/2025 23:50

Btw Lisa Eldridge does a great "no make up makeup" video. Ironically I think it was before she released her own products:-

GeorgeMichaelsMicStand · 05/04/2025 07:19

I like Trinny BFF but I don’t really like Trinny 🤓

JingsMahBucket · 05/04/2025 07:50

Question from someone who never wears makeup: Do you these products on after moisturizing or before? Do you need to wash your face at night to remove these tints or is it okay to leave them until showering ont hé morning?

DecafDodger · 05/04/2025 07:53

Those products are used after your moisturiser and sunscreen.
It is very much advisable to wash your face in the evenings whether you use make up or not.

Snackpocket · 05/04/2025 07:55

whatnoooow · 04/04/2025 20:02

Bare minerals.

Second this. If you don’t like the feel of a liquid foundation the powder is perfect and gives a lovely natural look.

TaranFollt · 05/04/2025 07:56

I'm of an age where make up is making me look older... so I've stopped using it and use neal's yard wild rose beauty balm- and only that. It's hydrating for the skin and gives a nice glow.

Oriunda · 05/04/2025 07:59

I don't wear foundation; it makes me look older and too made up. I use a small amount of tinted BB cream with SPF, and add a bit of Nuxe l'huile prodigeuse or in the pink shade (it doesn't make your skin pink, but gives it a wonderful luminosity).

LizzieSiddal · 05/04/2025 08:06

Clarins Golden Glow drops are amazing.

You mix a couple of drops into your normal moisturiser and that’s it- I use them every other day and don’t need foundation even in the middle of winter.
Honestly they are a game changer.

LizzieSiddal · 05/04/2025 08:07

Should add the bottle lasts for ages.

drspouse · 05/04/2025 08:24

Jumping on this to ask which of these might be good for sensitive skin?
I have Bare Minerals original which is fine and NARS tinted moisturiser which makes my eyes itch if I use it too many days in a row.

piscofrisco · 05/04/2025 08:27

Ilia skin tint with SPF. It’s magical.

ThePoshUns · 05/04/2025 08:34

I’ve got Milk skin tint, that was recommended when I went into space NK. It’s build able so can add more in areas where needed and gives a lovely, dewy glow. I’d like to try Lisa Eldridge next as love her ‘look’.

GIRFEChahaha · 05/04/2025 09:03

Following with interest. How do you use the BB and CC creams? Separately? Or together? And if the later, in which order?

WhatWouldTheDoctorDo · 05/04/2025 09:05

Erborian CC or BB cream.

but if you have a space nk they’re pretty good at letting you try out shades etc. and will give sample pots for you to try at home.

WimpoleHat · 05/04/2025 09:09

I like Clinique almost makeup. It’s a very light powder foundation; feels like you’re just putting on a bit of pressed powder, but really evens out your skin.
