It's a casual barny wedding so want to be relaxed but have no suitable smart enough top and no suitable flatish shoes... help please.

I think if you had a linen jacket/blazer it could work well.

Wedge sandal/shoes?

Cabbagefamily · 29/03/2025 11:26

Hmm, they are very casual. I wouldn’t wear them to a wedding, no matter how casual.

Do you think so? I mean they definitely need a press.. but I was hoping with the right top it could work

Good idea. Needs to not be too boxy else I'll look like a sack...

There’s such a wide range of wedding cultures, @Cabbagefamily! A friend of a friend was telling me about one she went to last Spring where most of the guests were in either Doc Martens and tutus, or vintage jeans.

It’s a great pair of trousers for the wedding context you describe. (Or will be, once ironed …) Do not pair with a blazer, they’re the wrong shape for that, and it would look as if you’re not committed to the trousers. You want a contrasting tapestry type coat; silk would obviously be best but as long as it’s quite weighty and strongly coloured most fabrics would be fine. Don’t know what you have in your wardrobe, or whether you’re more inclined to pre-owned or new from store, @Lemoneytrousers?

Plumo

Free People

are the two places that immediately spring to mind, but the best examples of the sort of thing I mean are probably lurking on the stalls of craft fairs.

Pancakeflipper · 29/03/2025 11:59

Look on John Lewis website - there's lots of boxy and some not boxy blazer/jackets on there.

If it's not a hugely formal wedding and you arent a main player in the day, I think you can pull this look off.

Perhaps a nice neutral coloured tank top underneath ?

Though TBH my giving fashion help is really out of my remit - I lurk here for brands/tips.

madaboutpurple · 29/03/2025 12:08

I reckon your trousers will be so lovely, I love the design. I think you could even get a green t-shirt to go with them. I imagine trainers would actually go with your clothes so you might not need to pay out for new footwear. I would not get a jacket as the whole event sounds very informal. Enjoy yourself I imagine it will be tremendous.

MissAtomicBomb1 · 29/03/2025 13:28

They look like beachwear or something you would wear on holiday.
If it’s a very informal, relaxed vibe then I think they’re really nice otherwise no.

Katsuragi Bolero - Plümo Ltd

WanderInMyTime · 29/03/2025 14:19

I think for this to work you have to embrace a full-on arty/ boho look. A beige top or blazer would kill it stone dead; you need black, I think, in a luxe finish e.g. silk, with some statement jewellery.

Outofthepan · 29/03/2025 14:24

i think you could wear them, if you paired with a strappy cami type top and nice jewellery. Golden strappy block heel sandals.

Glam hair and makeup

SoScarletItWas · 29/03/2025 14:31

I’d look for a green silk wrap top. Gold jewellery. Gold flat or very low heeled pointed shoes.

I just spent the best part of an hour looking at Plumo. I thank you (but my bank balance wont!)

So I think a long silk top or a short green silk wide t-shirt seem like good ideas. and fully embracing the boho chic.

And I like the idea of gold sandal... although rocking up to a wedding in white trainers also appeals!

It's over Easter so weather could be anything. I think I'll get a few options and see what the weather decides for me
Thanks for all the suggestions.

Look for pre-loved Plumo or Yacco Maricard, @Lemoneytrousers .
I know of the brand from a charity shop find. A £5 well spent.

MyGardenHasGreatTits · 29/03/2025 18:00

White silk camisole, white blazer (lined for structure), gold strappy heels and a lemon yellow clutch could work.

Needlenardlenoo · 29/03/2025 18:30

I agree with the suggestion of gold shoes (Hotter often has comfy but reasonable looking stuff), yellow clutch or tote but I'd go with any neutral top and throw a pashmina over the top. Or two. As barns are always fecking freezing!

I really liked the linen wrap top a pp linked but one would possibly look like a crumpled paper bag rather quickly!

MissSookieStackhouse · 29/03/2025 18:31

I agree with the poster above who said they look like beachwear. Ok for a beach wedding in a hot climate, but I think you’d struggle to dress them up enough for most UK weddings. (If you are in the UK that is.)

Outofthepan · 29/03/2025 20:52

On no account ever countenance hotter shoes

@Lemoneytrousers The problem for me is that they look like a tablecloth and they are a conversation piece that you haven’t worn for a bit. They will stand out as not being very suitable for a wedding and a bit of a joke. Nothing much will rescue them. I’d just find a floral or striped shirt dress.

Ouch.
I wore them last summer but obviously haven't since as they are summer trousers...

NO Don’t wear trousers to a wedding if you must wear a suit like the men Or a go in a dress with heels

TizerorFizz · 29/03/2025 22:16

@Lemoneytrousers You did ask if they were suitable for a wedding. Truly they are not. You don’t have to spend loads of money but they are a fabric I have on my picnic tablecloth. Why not wear a pair of fluid navy trousers and a silk top? You absolutely cannot go wrong with a shirt dress with a swishy skirt if you want casual. Jaeger are doing a great striped one at M&S. Add a straw fedora and espadrilles and you’ve nailed it. Or find similar that’s floral but not fruit.
