18 year old birthday - what necklaces have you bought??

Hoping to gather some ideas 😊
It is my DDs 18th birthday soon and we want to buy her a special necklace.
She loves jewellery so we know she would appreciate this.
I'm going down a rabbit hole though. We can't afford a Tiffany necklace but would like something equally elegant, feminine and timeless. Something I would hope she would like to wear in another 20/30 years still.
She likes silver (white gold would also be fine but appreciate would put the price up).
I was looking at Clogau and seen a couple of things there I like (added a pic of one), also Swarovski, nomination and pandora.
What have you bought your girls that was well received?
Would appreciate any suggestions. Thank you.

That pendant is lovely, but I think it would date.

For my 18th birthday, my parents bought me a very small, simple, diamond pendant. I still wear it regularly. That may be out of your price range, but I think the simpler it is, the more likely it is to last.

I had a pair of Swarovski earrings for my wedding. Very simple ones and the only reason I don't wear them regularly still is because devastatingly, I lost one.

So something like the MOnica Vinander birthstone pendants might be a good choice. Or maybe something like this

I buy presents for my DD and (female) partner from this seller a heck of a lot as her stuff is really classic, timeless and cool

I like a lot of this!

ramonaquimby · 27/03/2025 12:41

I'd ask your daughter what she'd like, the one you've posted is quite fussy and I can't see an 18 year old wanting to wear it.
Maybe ask her for her top 3?

Ecocool · 27/03/2025 12:42

I think jewellery is such a personal thing, I'd ask her. Remember silver also tarnishes.

PaintDecisions · 27/03/2025 12:48

Could you go to a jewellery making class together and make something special? It's our always that expensive either!

For example, this is a studio in Ayrshire in Scotland that I've done some classes with, she's brilliant!

I was given necklaces and bracelets by family for my 18th. It was a lovely gesture but I didn't like or wear any of them.
I wanted (and eventually bought for myself) a simple single pearl pendant. I vote giving your DD a budget and have a jewellery shopping day out.

WildCherryBlossom · 27/03/2025 12:56

The pendant in the picture is quite ornate and I do think it could date.

Appreciate its out of budget but I think something with quite simple clean lines like a Tiffany Elsa Peretti open heart is more classic and timeless.

I agree it would be good to include your daughter - even if it does spoil the surprise. I’m sure she would love the experience of going to shops and trying pieces on to find the perfect keepsake.

Also to pp who said silver tarnishes - I have lots of silver jewellery and generally it does not tarnish - apart from one antique necklace. I think perhaps modern jewellery is treated to prevent tarnish?

ramonaquimby · 27/03/2025 13:11

buy a silver cleaning cloth with the necklace!
LOVE the Elsa Peretti one

ClaredeBear · 27/03/2025 13:14

I was goi g to suggest Clogau but I think that one is a little fussy as others have said. I agree with the jewellery making suggestion.

That IBB one is lovely but perhaps the daughter wouldn't like it.

IchiNiSanShiGo · 27/03/2025 14:01

How about something like this - simple and modern. Can be made with a different birthstone.

MulberryPeony · 27/03/2025 15:50

DD18 was given a clogau locket when she was born and it has now been officially passed on to her. I think, being a traditional locket, means it’s fairly timeless iysim.

MulberryPeony · 27/03/2025 15:52

This would be somewhere in the middle www.clogau.co.uk/products/tree-of-life-filigree-pendant?variant=45208409374869

AllGoodNamesRGone · 27/03/2025 15:58

Thank you for all the suggestions. I have some lovely ideas to go on and things I'd not thought about.
I think I will try to go more simple and I may end up having to ask her 😊

We bought my DD a solitaire diamond necklace for her 21st. She loves it and wears it a lot. It's a tiny diamond too 🤣

BeaLola · 27/03/2025 17:15

Georg Jensen
Dower & Hall - often have 20% off and well made

Slightly different but for my 50th DF & DB wanted to buy me something special - they have me a bigger and my DB took me out for the day and we looked at lots of jewellery, had lunch and then I'm the afternoon I chose my piece - it made it a really memorable day and I think of it often when I wear the piece of jewellery

ranoutofquinoaandprosecco · 27/03/2025 17:16

As people have mentioned give your DD a budget and have a day out together. Maybe have a look in some second hand jewellers as I think you don’t pay VAT on second hand jewellery so she’ll get more for her money?

Picoloangel · 27/03/2025 17:20

This is lovely and v classic

AllGoodNamesRGone · 27/03/2025 17:20

I really like this. I'm going to show her some pictures tonight to get a feel for what she likes. I have screenshots this one to show her.

I know you said necklace but I got my dd this ring and she loves it. Very affordable jewellery so might be worth a look?

This is nice.

I'd give her a budget and get her to have a look around. I think choosing someone else jewellery is really hard.

loropianalover · 27/03/2025 17:37

Can you share your budget OP?

I would definitely ask her as she might have something in mind that she would really appreciate. You could make a day of it as well and let her try things on in the jewellers, go for lunch etc.
