Urgent help styling this dress

Please help me style this dress for a wedding.

I'm hoping to disguise my tummy as much as possible.

Think I shouldn't really wear a white jacket and don't want to wear a black one.

Have access to most High St shops and online if they have fast delivery options.

I'm hopeless at this so any help gratefully received.

Thanks.

Hello again.
Thanks again for all the advice - I am going to try lots of things on over the next few weeks for another wedding I am going to later in the year.

I have now been to the first wedding - I ended up wearing some trousers and a top (back in my comfort zone). I felt ok but not great.

I really do appreciate all of the time you have all taken and the links you have sent.

I am very slowly losing a bit of weight but need to change my mindset and realise it’s ok to dress up even if you do have a big tummy!

Great idea - if you try things, all sorts of shapes and things you might never have ‘thought’ you could carry off, you’ll get a big boost!

The very best time to do this is when you have NO occasion looming too soon, so no pressure of if I must find something!!

This is very flattering on the belly and not fussy so very easy to wear if you’re not used to dresses. You could wear a big colourful wrap over the top to draw attention upwards. It’s long too so will be a good length on you. https://www.hobbs.com/product/radclyffe-dress/0125-5982-9045L00-MIDNIGHT.html

That’s lovely, hot pink would look lovely with that

Me too. Whenever I see bigger and / or bigger tummied women dressed up, I don't particularly notice their size, I just think "oooh, I like that dress / hairdo / nail art". But when it comes to myself, all I see is my tummy and think "what's the point". Definitely something to work on.

There's a lady on Instagram - Lottie Drynan, who shows lots of dresses and outfits that are comfortable to wear with a larger tummy, disproportionate to the rest of her figure. She's always been about comfort with a belly that bloats (IBS I think?) and used to be about hiding it as best as possible but lately she's more about comfort, as well accepting it and joyful dressing!

She's absolutely joyful herself and wonderful to follow, she may possibly be a bit bright and bonkers for your tastes but she's certainly got lots of style ideas.

@IHaveAlwaysLivedintheCastle Thanks. Do you think a wrap would work? Trying to hide a big tummy!

Yes, a fabulous, dramatic wrap that will draw peoples' attention and no one will even think about your tummy!

Order a long ( pashmina style scarf ) and drape it around your neck hanging down …trust me it works ! Open up as a shawl for later . I’d also wear a high gold necklace to draw attention up and brighten the neckline … match with earrings and a bracelet …then relax !

As an add on to my previous post a ( very ) rough idea of what I was suggesting ..

Sorry - don't know how to edit but mine is the black and white one.

I’d get a long red or green ribbon type ‘belt’ to define the waist line and hair decoration in same colour, with matching bag or shoes. Red lip.

Why are you linking this site all over the board under various name changes?

UpMyself · 06/04/2025 14:07

@Funformumsfashion That's not suitable for a wedding..

Meanwhile33 · 06/04/2025 14:47

This is worth trying on too OP, not very weddingy but it will feel more like you’ve made an effort than trousers and a top. The length is good for someone tall and because it’s well tailored cotton with no stretch it skims past any lumpy bits and is very flattering. Hobbs cotton shirt dress

StefyGr2 · 22/04/2025 09:13

I'd go with gold hoops, a slightly messy updo, and maybe strappy heels in a metallic or nude tone.

I found some great styling inspo for similar dresses on beyondordinaryvida.com — they've got real-life outfit combos that helped me figure out shoe and accessory options without overthinking it.

Adding a soft clutch in a neutral colour might balance everything out without pulling focus from the dress.
