Do you wear linen trousers in the summer in the UK?

I used to then gave up as they look like a rag after 5 minutes.,
I KNOW that's 'the look' and it's fine overseas when it's hot but not too sure about City wear in UK (not in an office.)

I don't wear linen, because it always looks a crumpled mess.

I also don't think it's flattering on anyone.

I wear linen trousers a lot and you cannot see my pants at all. I really can't envisage what you are meaning.

You need nude coloured knickers under white linen trousers.

I don't wear white linen trousers though. No one mentioned that the trousers were white! If I did I would wear nude pants.

StMarie4me · 14/03/2025 09:03

No- can’t stand the creased rag look.

Flatandhappy · 14/03/2025 09:11

I live in Australia (currently an Autumn evening and 30 degrees). My “uniform” is cropped linen pants and cotton tunic tops, pretty much every day except Winter. I dry my pants on the line outside and they usually don’t need to be ironed. Maybe it’s the quality of the linen? Mine don’t look like rags. Only the white ones would show my knickers but my top always covers my bum.

Lentilweaver · 14/03/2025 09:12

I have linen blend trousers that don't crease as much. Uniqlo I think.

JaninaDuszejko · 14/03/2025 09:20

Linen blends are the way to go. I had some gorgeous linen and silk blend trousers from Boden about 20 years ago that I wore to death for work. They didn't crease and were so cool to wear. Loved them. Bet you'd have to pay multiple hundreds to get trousers like that now.

I'll wear linen viscose but I find viscose a really warm fabric to wear which counteracts the point of wearing cool linen.

DGPP · 14/03/2025 09:44

Yes but I buy heavier linen. I have some from Reiss that are excellent quality. They do crease but they are also a classic look and never look shabby

Cattreesea · 14/03/2025 09:51

Of course! I live in the South East by the sea and love wearing my linen trousers.

You need ironing!

Mate, it’s no use! Even with, it’s a shit show!

Sorry, but anything barrel-leg can absolutely never look smart!

Yes! IMO ‘barrel-leg’ is positively the most hideous style ever.

When designers are racking their brains for something new, in order to make us feel we have to buy it, I’m sure they must have reasoned that yes, they’re bloody hideous, but luckily so many people are suckers for anything calling itself a ‘new fashion’.

Giggorata · 21/06/2025 11:03

I wear cotton, linen and linen blends in hot weather, as I prefer not to be a sweaty mess, and I'll take a few creases.
I have been wearing lagenlook clothing for some years now, including cotton or linen barrel legged trousers, which are not a new thing, although perhaps new to mainstream fashion. (I don't do that)
If you get the silhouette right, it looks well.
As an oldie and no longer skinny, I have tops that cover my bum, so no visible knickers, plus the shape of the top should complement the barrel leg, being curved, asymmetric or hi lo.
I have also taken to wearing my cotton or snag chub rub drawers under my linen trousers. Much cooler! Yesterday, I was busy, volunteering in the morning and cleaning out my van in the afternoon and was pleasantly surprised by how non sweaty and horrible I was on such a sweltering day.

TeamKneeLength · 21/06/2025 11:51

I look forward to spending as much of the summer as possible in linen (when I'm not in sports stuff): linen t-shirts, linen shorts linen trousers full length and cropped... If I ever see one I like, I'd be happy to buy a linen dress. I particularly like how loose, light and airy my linen t-shirt feels.

Can't say I've ever noticed a particular problem with creasing, but I do dodge very cheap linen stuff.

Eastendboysandwestendgirls · 21/06/2025 11:58

I never wear linen trousers (or anything else). Aside from the crumpledness, unless you have a GREAT arse, they make everyone's look very wide and flat.

ResidentPorker · 21/06/2025 11:59

I’m wearing linen trousers now. I normally hate creases but in this weather they’re fine and wrinkles are part of the look. Too hot for jeans.

uncomfortablydumb60 · 21/06/2025 14:47

Yes, but cigarette pants in soft neutrals like silver grey dusky pink and lilac which tone with the rest of my wardrobe I adore firm structured fabrics

GranolaDisco · 21/06/2025 14:48

No. I don’t ‘get’ linen. It’s not especially cool in hot weather and it looks scruffy after 5 minutes.

ApolloandDaphne · 21/06/2025 16:08

I love my linen trousers and just accept they get creased.

Goodlorditssummer · 21/06/2025 16:15

No. I find it uncomfortable and I look like I’ve slept in it after about 3 minutes.

quirkychick · 21/06/2025 16:17

Yes, I have two pairs I've had for ages: a dark brown wrapover pair from La Redoute and a smarter, part-lined, grey pinstripe pair from Great Plains. I also have a navy, linen dress from Nicole Farhi. I dry on a hanger and if it's still creased use a steamer. I don't mind the creases from wearing it, it's part of the texture of the fabric.

soupyspoon · 21/06/2025 16:18

wizzywig · 13/03/2025 16:46

I know I'm being unreasonable but all I think off with linen trousers is 'I can see your pants'.

You have to wear skin coloured knickers. Which I dont like.

Itallcomesdowntothis · 21/06/2025 16:21

I have to agree OP. Who wants to iron in this heat and then look like a crinkled up bag. Flowing skirts or dresses are better.

ginasevern · 21/06/2025 16:33

Am I the only one that doesn't "get" linen. First of all it creases to hell and anyway how is it cooler than pure cotton?

Almostwelsh · 21/06/2025 16:34

I'm not fond of linen, but regarding knickers, red knickers are less visible under white trousers than you would expect.

It's something to do with the absorption of light qualities of certain colours rather than matching exactly to your skin tone.

Scorpion84 · 21/06/2025 16:37

Yep , I don't find my M&S ones crease that much to be honest but they aren't 100 percent linen
