Intimate hair removal if I’m too scared to get a bikini wax

icebearforpresident · 09/03/2025 19:23

Apart from a couple of waxes to ‘tidy up’ my bikini line (basically make sure nothing is sticking out my swim wear when I’m on holiday) I’ve never really bothered doing anything with my public hair. When I was 18 I shaved it all off at the front when I got a bit too carried away with a razor but didn’t go near any intimate areas and it itched so much growing back in I’ve never done it again.

For various reasons I’m thinking I would like to be more ‘groomed’ down there, not totally bald but definitely trimmed.

A full on wax, especially around my genitals makes me want to clamp my legs shut but is it the only option? I’m guessing removal creams would be unsafe in that area and I certainly don’t want to go any where near it with a razor.

Try a lady shave
You can adjust the blade length

MissMoneyFairy · 09/03/2025 19:26

You can get a ladyshave for bikini area, it's very gentle

GildedRage · 09/03/2025 19:28

Why not approach it slowly with the usual sides for bikini purposes plus an extra inch towards the sides and an inch on the top portion. I’m sure they have a name for this trim. It’s not an all or nothing scenario.

GildedRage · 09/03/2025 19:31

Look up types of bikini wax, I’d suggest the California style as the next step

NewYearNewJob2024 · 09/03/2025 19:32

I agree with PP...continue with your normal bikini wax but just start going in a little further each time. If you keep on top of it, it's not so bad. I'd say that's my top tip though...I've made the mistake of leaving it a few months when I've been busy, and it's just not worth it!!!

I love removal creams for pubic hair. They are totally safe if you use them properly, and can get brands that make it specific for that area. I use woowoo.

Bert2e · 09/03/2025 19:57

Get yourself a mens grooming shaver - you can adjust the blades - I tend to go for about 10mm. Groomed but not prepubescent looking.

Thanks for answering, a removal cream would probably be my preference but I’ve not been able to find one that explicitly says it’s ok to use in intimate areas. Woowoo actually popped up as an ad on my instagram a while ago but I’m always hesitant to buy from instagram ads, especially for something like this so appreciate the recommendation.

As for waxing, a California wax is probably what I have in mind but I’d be starting from scratch - my last bikini wax was when I went on holiday almost 3 years ago.

I used a beard trimmer on mine and cut it right back

Definitely give woowoo a try, I’ve used it for years and think it’s fab. Hope you like it!

Another vote for Woowoo.

GildedRage · 09/03/2025 23:02

@icebearforpresident starting from scratch isn't a problem the esthetician would trim the hairs slightly to the ideal length for the waxing procedure and go from there.

I just slap nair on, I use the sensitive one, don’t leave it on longer than directed, then wipe it off with some tissue. Job done 👍🏼

Always someone bringing some paedo element into it 🙄

Do your hairless arm pits make you look prepubescent? Or do you rock a hairy pit?

What about your leg hair?

Do flat chested women only attract paedos?

OuterSpaceCadet · 10/03/2025 07:41

Veet works fine for me. Never had any irritation. I actually find the "normal skin" one better than the "sensitive" one because it works in a quicker time frame.

There is always someone who thinks hairless genital areas look prepubescent and that’s ok. Because prepubescent genital areas are hairless.

You’ve got your opinion. They’ve got theirs.

OP I use nair and never had a problem.

I’ve been all off for as long as l can remember and gone from shaving to creams to a wax. Now I have regular Hollywood waxes and after the first time it really is like a walk in the park. I just hop on the table and chat while it is being done. Should you ever change your mind on that one, l would suggest for the first time taking a couple of paracetamol beforehand and don’t have it done just before a period.

In the past or for a “tidy up” when l’ve been away, l’ve used Veet Sensitive going extremely close in to the lipswithout any problem. Do the spot test though and don’t exceed the time stated. You might find gently using one of those froo-froo(?) things easier than the plastic thingy (all technical terms here!) provided when you wash it away.

A wet shave is, of course, another option in which case a sharp blade is essential and l would suggest hair conditioner (the razor glides) as opposed to shower or shaving gels.

Which ever method you go for any itching quickly subsides (it’s less with waxing or Veet anyway) as the body seems to get used to it. Finally, you will find “all off” far less maintenance and easier than any partial removal. Personally l think topiary is too complex.

As for looking the looking pre-pubescent chestnut, l rock a 36F bra and my vulva does not look like that of a child. Many of us remove underarm hair and leg hair too; why is that so different? The majority of men shave their faces, is that to look like boys?

FumbDucker · 10/03/2025 08:25

Those of you using veet or woowoo- do you do the -ahem- undercarriage? I’ve always ruled it out as think it would sting like a B!

Brilliant response and can echo that waxing gets easier the more you do it. Absolutely take a painkiller before hand if you need to and never wax in the week before your period as its more painful.

Doesn't sting me at all

StarlightLady · 10/03/2025 08:44

@Capricornandproud - Thank you. I hope it helped others too. ❤️.

To add, l don’t bother with the painkillers any more; the body has got so used to it. Beauticians are like hairdressers. If you find a good waxer, stick with her.

WeeBisom · 10/03/2025 08:45

OP, I was like you, the idea of a wax filled me with horror and I was too scared to get it done for ages. Finally took the plunge and honestly it's not that bad at all. If you can tolerate a bikini wax I think you should be ok (I will caveat this by saying that for some reason I have a high pain tolerance for waxing.) Do you research and make sure you get someone who is experienced because a good waxer makes all the difference. And get a hot wax, not the strips.

Maybe I’m just old (I’m not that old really mid 30s) but I’ve never understood this trend of taking it all off. I’m sorry I’m not trying to be rude like someone above was I’m just curious why? Does it feel better during intimacy or something. I understand tidying up the edges when it’s swimsuit season because no one wants their pubes peeking out on display.

I don’t have much experience on the topic but I would say others have given good advice:)

I’m older (40s); It certainly feels better for me and makes heavy periods easier to manage too. But each to their own.
