Spring 2025 - Which jackets? Which shoes?

BBQHulaHoops · 01/03/2025 12:04

Please advise wise and stylish women of Mumsnet!

I really need a new jacket. I no longer suit blazer type jackets and no longer fit in my denim jacket - so what to wear? Everything is so boxy or oversized and I am not keen to make myself look any larger. I love quilted jackets and the kimono style but I look like an upholstered armchair in them as they hang down from the shoulder, but most jackets that are waisted hit in the wrong place because I have a long back.

This is most lovely thing I have seen so far but it's so expensive: https://www.toa.st/collections/womens-coats-jackets/products/garment-dyed-cotton-linen-neat-jacket-slate and I am not sure how well it would look over my DDs. (what I would really like is someone to tell me that it is a great investment piece and worth the money and it will be 0.3p per wear for the rest of time).

Additionally I am sick to death of always wearing chunky boots, but I struggle to find something a bit more elegant and am not good at proper lady shoes. I have a tendency to wear Dms in winter, trainers sometimes and birkies all summer.

I saw some clogs with heels - but I fear my penchant for ugly shoes is leading me astray. What are the alternatives right now?

My style is a sort of cheap version of Toast/deconstracted linen and layers/artsy older lady, but a bit more urban. Size 14-16 on top with broad sholders and big boobs. I just want to look a bit more put together, less clumpy and dumpy with giant clown feet!

I’ve bought this one from Zara to transition into spring. It’s an oaty colour. It’s really lightweight & looks nice with my wide leg trousers & jeans. I’m always cold so don’t get on with trenches but they are always recommended.

happytobemrsg · 01/03/2025 12:47

On the shoes, what about flat Mary Jane’s or Mary Jane’s with a block heel?

BBQHulaHoops · 01/03/2025 12:51

How can I have spent all morning looking and not spotted that?! Thank you!

They always recommend trenches at this time of year and I never want one. -cropped or not. I always think I will look like Colombo

Did you mean to add a link?

@happytobemrsg thank you for taking the time in a long morning - I think that one is a bit wintery (v nice for now) and a great shape - I wish they would name the shape and then I could look for similar

I don’t like trenches either. Too much swishy material & I still feel cold. And awkward.

It’s a lot lighter than it looks & if you fold down the funnel neck it looks more casual. I agree, it’s a good shape. I struggle so much with jackets. I’ve got some bomber jacket type things I’m planning on wearing when it’s a lot warmer (bonus is I can wear them in the office too as the air con is bloody freezing in summer)

BBQHulaHoops · 01/03/2025 13:05

I think a bomber woulf make me look like a satsuma!

I did a reverse image search on the Zara jacket and asked for it in Navy and a lovely one from John Lewis came up but no longer in stock 😫

The material on the Reiss one looks really lovely, but again I think too round for me.

I like these? A bit cheapish looking but the shape is nice

Oh I love those. They are everywhere at the moment so you’ll definitely find ones you’ll like. I’d love a pair myself (pretty much exactly like the ASOS ones) but working on a capsule wardrobe & just wouldn’t wear them enough to justify adding them.

I got these in store in the sale https://www.marksandspencer.com/studded-buckle-flat-ballet-pumps/p/clp60706018?intid=mobile_app_pdp_share in red

I ordered this one from Sezane. Can't wait for the parcel to be delivered! 😁

@Britpopbaby Those are very cool! I am discovering studs are very in rn?

I just found these from Cos, so gorgeous and with little pleats like a block ballet shoe. https://www.cos.com/en_gbp/women/accessories/shoes/product.pleated-leather-mary-jane-ballet-flats-black.1195802001.html?utm_campaign=cos_gb__conversion___transaction_google_shopping_brand-catchall___precis&gclid=Cj0KCQiA_Yq-BhC9ARIsAA6fbAjtxozljFi4xBpLHmKVnYJpJHNk0DNR-darOxRPDPYAsewkOTm-1vsaAnKZEALw_wcB

That is very nice @LipglossAlly

Appalonia · 01/03/2025 16:06

Those black ballet flats are nice, but they're so bad for your feet! Are there any with more of a padded sole to give you some support? ( sorry, it's my issue, but pp have had foot problems cos of shoes like these! )

Zebracat · 01/03/2025 17:54

I really like this from Poetry at £149.00 ,but it’s knitted, and I’m not sure what the difference is between a knitted jacket and a cardigan. I am a similar shape to you and I avoid breast pockets like the plague or I become Miss Trunchbull, so the Marks jacket wouldn’t work for me.

I like it and I like garment dyed clothing but it's a lot of money (£255.00) for a cotton/linen unlined jacket.

Currently debating whether to get this as I need a light jacket too.
