Help needed with making me look like me on a good day.

I am mid 30s and have never wore make up but recently have started looking at myself in the mirror and finding that I’m looking like the day after a heavy night out.

Can anyone recommend an incredibly simple routine or products that look like me on a good day Not like I’m obviously wearing make-up.

My current routine to wake up wash my face and then just get moving. I don’t want to spend a lot of time so probably something that lasts less than 10 minutes. Someone has described me in the past of having winter colouring, but I’ve got no idea what that means.

thank you.

Primer, foundation, blush, highlighter and brows work miracles for me.

After washing my face with an oil based cleanser and moisturiser.

Save a shedload of money on mistakes and get your colours done. They will recommend a foundation, lipstick etc and let you try it before buying.

FullFiveFathom · 23/02/2025 19:15

Do you get enough sleep? That is the single biggest thing that affects how I look (and how I feel about how I look).

I get enough sleep but am trying to drink more water as I am lousy at it currently. Thank you

Thanks, where do you get your colours done? Will a place like John Lewis do or do I need to specialise.

I'd suggest House of Colour or Colour me Beautiful. They hold up different colours to your face and work out what your 'palate' is, then give you a swatch of your 'best' colours to wear, then try make up to bring out your natural colouring. It's quite expensive but so worth it. I literally never make mistakes now buying clothes, and I'm still buying their recommended lipstick colours thirty years later, and they still suit me!

Where would go for this please?

House of Colour or Colour Me Beautiful. They have various practitioners around the country.

I see others advise foundation and lipstick which can look great but if you’re normally make-up free I would consider trying something light weight/sheer like a tinting fluid, colour lip balm and mascara. I use these daily and keep the “real” make up (I love eyeliner and a bold red lip!) for special occasions.

These are my go to’s:

I think that was the wrong link, this is the lip balm I mean https://m.clinique.co.uk/product/1605/4772/makeup/lips/lipsticks/almost-lipstick--black-honey

available in s pinkish tint and burgundy/maroon.
I love these!

If you look here on House of Colour you can filter by season. If you are a Winter (as you said you look wintery) then you can see what colours to look for in lipsticks, blushers etc.

I had mine done and I am a Spring which explains why I never thought red suited me - it's not red, it's blue-based red that doesn't suit me. Also muted colours just do nothing for me. I look vampy in burgundy/maroon/blue red.

rumkar · 24/02/2025 04:17

Do you use a retinoid/tretinoin?
Try Monderma

User37482 · 24/02/2025 04:34

Could try a vitamin c serum and tinted moisturiser, lip stain may be better if you don’t like makeup, eyebrow pencil and a bit of mascara.

beachcitygirl · 24/02/2025 04:39

Personally
Good haircut every 6 weeks
Lots of water
Really good moisturiser
Eyebrows professionally done
Eyelashes tinted

Then a daily cc cream and a slick of tinted lip balm

The no make up look

Sleep too. 7-8 hours makes a huge difference to your skin and hair.

HRT works but OP is probably too young.

I am 65 and found I don't need foundation and only occasionally use BB?CC /tinted moisturisers. I concentrate on eyeliner and mascara (because my eyes seem to disappear without them) eyeshadow , brows and a bit of lipstick. This is my 'everyday' work face. Only bother sometimes with blusher, powder etc if going out

HornyHornersPinkyWinky · 28/02/2025 14:29

I would second something like a vitamin c serum to give a bit of a glow, and also try to incorporate some SPF in your routine.

In terms of the no make up look, I did try to find a tinted moisturiser a few years ago and tried a few, but they ended up being quite orangey for my skin tone (which is quite pale). In the end I found a good foundation that matches my skin tone really well, and I just mix it with moisturiser to make my own sort of tint. It works quite well on my skin, to just even out and give a bit of a lift to my skin, but it doesn't look heavy or cakey.

Also, well maintained eyebrows can give definition to the face - I use a good eyebrow pencil and brush to tame my eyebrows and eyelashes (I don't use mascara because I don't like it), but I find that's enough to frame my whole face and make me feel a bit more put together.

Try applying tretinoin at night and Vitamin C cream in the morning.

Try the Bondi Sands or Isle of Paradise tan drops.

Edited

Same here (though never diagnosed for colour- but i believe I am a bright Spring) I just know blue reds do not suit. They look hard on me..

CoffeeBeansGalore · 02/03/2025 11:42

Try L'Occitane Immortelle Reset (overnight) serum. At bedtime wash your face & gently smooth a dab over your skin. It gives you a subtle glow. Described as a good night's sleep in a bottle. I noticed a difference after one night.
I usually add moisturiser on top but I have dry skin.
There are usually little travel size bottles available on ebay so you can test it before commiting to a full size.

OP: What do you currently use on your face in terms of cleansing and moisturising, serums, oils?

anon2022anon · 02/03/2025 12:41

Using a vitamin c serum under moisturiser makes a massive difference to how I look- glowy rather than grey! I then use erborian colour correct, which doesn't show at all/ cover anything, but it does even out my redness very well.
I use the ordinary vitamin c serum, but I think it's been discontinued - I stocked up!

Ordinary vitamin C suspension 23% + HA spheres 2% in silicon is good. They discontinued the 30% as well for some reason.
