Microneedling - Does it work for aging skin?

BoundaryGirl3939 · 20/02/2025 17:17

Can anyone recommend it? At the age of 39 I'm noticing sagging skin, especially around the neck area and it's bothering me.

I've seen quite a few videos on YouTube which recommend microneedling.

Mr Pen seems to be a good microneedling brand. Does anyone find the microneedling has rejuvenated ir improved their skin?

I came here hoping to find out if it works... haven't tried it myself. I find the principle plausible, but that doesn't mean much.

MissAtomicBomb1 · 20/02/2025 20:18

I'm interested too.

I'm mid forties & too nervous to start on the fillers/botox etc yet but I can see I'm starting to lose volume and develop the start of jowls.

I'm tempted to try profhilo which is supposed to stimulate your body to produce its own collagen and plump things up a bit. Reviews seem to be mixed though & its £200 at time!

What's the pen you mention? Is it a DIY device?

Any type of mind aggrevation stimulates growth so I get the concept.

Yes, it's a DIY device. I've watched a few videos and I tend to find this lady enthusiastic about the benefits. I'm not promoting her. Just someone I've come across.

Dr Pen is available in the UK too. I gather it takes 10 mins to microneedle yourself so it seems practical.

I will look up profhilo.

I've had it done several times. The last time with exosomes and the results was great.

BoundaryGirl3939 · 20/02/2025 20:50

I know that Red light therapy seems to be the rage but I just don't have the energy or motivation to buy a large expensive mask.

What kind of results stanleypops? I want to plump my neck and cheeks which I feel are slightly drooping.

I’ve had microneedling done a few times - at a nurse led medispa type clinic. I’d be wary about at home devices as you can do more harm than good and you might waste a lot of money. Definitely worth doing a lot of research.

BeretRaspberry · 20/02/2025 21:42

I’m interested too. What sort of effects is it reported to give? I have acne scars and some mouth/chin lines I could do with smoothing but don’t want fillers.

Crushed23 · 20/02/2025 21:55

I'd love to hear people's experiences too. I'm about to start getting micro needling done in my mid-30s, to try to get some 'glow' back. I've found tretinoin and those Elizabeth Arden capsule things to be underwhelming (both of which MN loves and I was persuaded to buy from reading thread on here!)

Fingers crossed micro needling is more effective.

How long have you been using Tret? It can be a long game.

I would think that at your age tretinoin is not showing any affect as your skin is still young. I’ve only just started tretinoin at age 60.

I have been microneedling with a device called Derminator for 10 years all over my body (but not my neck) to treat all sort of issues (stretch marks, scars, skin folds, face wrinkles, skin sagging etc.), it is my Holy Grail.

For wrinkles, lines, resurfacing, scars, stretch marks, firmness, very efficient. For sagging, it cannot counteract deep sagging, no miracle, but it will bring visible improvement. If mild to moderate, you will get great results.

I have just given myself a session last Sunday after a long break to start getting ready for summer on my face, hands, knees, and I still need to do my arms.

Crushed23 · 20/02/2025 22:19

@BeretRaspberry About 4 months

@handsdownthebest Well I thought it would at least help me get glowing skin and fade acne scars.

I’d give it a bit longer, especially if you’re still getting used to it. That said, it won’t be for everyone so you may decide to leave it. You can always try again in a few years if you feel like it.

Midgeymoo12 · 20/02/2025 22:31

I am getting it done with a facial Friday so I can let you know! Last couple of facials I had microdermabrasion, also tried dermaplane - that was excellent!

It probably help with with the acne scars. I’m sure at your age your skin is still glowing.

stanleypops66 · 20/02/2025 22:36

@BoundaryGirl3939
Good for skin resurfacing, pigmentation etc

I'd recommend Moxi (a form of laser treatment) with a combo of BBL (broadband light therapy) for longer lasting results on the face and neck. Goes much deeper than micro needing.

Doggymummar · 20/02/2025 22:37

Trinny WoodAall has a few videos on it, she looks great, saw one with Sophie Ellis Bextor and Liz Hurley I think. She diys it

raysan · 20/02/2025 22:52

Yes, Dr Pen is worth it. Even low depth and 16 needles is effective for giving me short term plumping, tightness and glow.
Use an oil or serum, Hyaralonic acid is best.

I got spare needles from ali express or similar & they're just as good as the originals. I don't normally use that site but its better than evil Amazon. And everywhere else (at the time) was more than double the price.

Tanya86st · 20/02/2025 22:56

I’m 38 and I started Botox last year. I also do biorevitalisation , no fillers. I’m against it and my close friend who is cosmetologist, won’t do it even if I beg her.
today she did micronildling and biorevitalisaion. That’s needed to be done, as my skin looks tired. Understandable, I work 70+h a week and lost a lot of weight.
skin still looks red but tighter.

Do you use numbing cream or do you not need it?

LunaTheCat · 21/02/2025 07:52

Aged 60. Just had my second treatment today.. a very qualified dermal therapist.. I will update . Right now skin just feels tight and inflamed!

ElinorDashwood68 · 21/02/2025 09:17

I've had a few sessions of Secret RF and have noticed an improvement in my sagging/jowls

UmberMoose · 21/02/2025 13:54

Yes I did microneedling first and then follow a skincare routine. Here is my routine that I follow:
Morning:
Using water to wash your face,
Sebamed clear face gel,
la roche posay spf
Evening:
la roche posay moisturizer,
Tretinoin (0.1) from skinorac
Sebamed clear facial gel
