What is the perfect outfit to wear to watch the rugby?

I have been invited to the rugby and want to make a seriously good impression. What can I wear?

It will be cold (for certain) and there is dinner afterwards so can’t rely on a coat to do all the work.

I know nothing (less than nothing) about rugby. I am assuming that will be forgiven if I can just look hot. Please help!

@Bodumb ,

I look totally normal.
Walking trousers look the same, padded or not. Long johns and thermal base layers are really thin and are not on show
My puffa coat is a size bigger than I really need, so I can get the Aran sweater and gilet on underneath.
My ear warmer fits inside my hat, and everyone has a scarf and gloves.
Other ladies near me in my stand wear similar, and we only shared our layers after a few years of chatting about our team and how the ref was wrong

Why would the OP want padded trousers in hospitality? One way to look a bit odd and definitely not hot!

The restaurant is afterwards! No one thinks the rugby hospitality area is in the city away from the ground.

I’m also a season ticket holder. I have never seen anybody look like you. Are you watching it in Iceland?

I have - Murrayfield is freezing.

Christ. I feel the cold. I have autoimmune conditions that mean I feel the cold but honestly OP, you do t need half of what people are suggesting.

Whattodowithaminute · 23/02/2025 19:13

Layers, Uniqlo do an ultra heat tech range at the moment which are good, I would be tempted to have these as your base and then potentially nip to the loo and remove a layer if you’re too hot at the restaurant?
I would do black turtle neck, jumper, thermal leggings, jeans, boots.

also highly recommend electronic hand warmers, thermal socks-stick on foot warmers, gloves hat scarf….

I have said that I really feel the cold, and after a couple of matches where I just wore jeans and a T-shirt and jumper, and then added a warmer coat , I learned what I need to wear in order to enjoy the game because I am not too cold.

Some people may need fewer layers. The OP needs to work out if she is a cold person, or can get away with less.

I shared what I have found works for me, a person who gets incredibly cold just sat around in an open stadium in a British winter. This is what I need to wear to a rugby match

And at least three or four other people have said they need as many layers of performance clothing to be comfortable.
Each individual person can work out what they need to be comfortable.

Have a great day OP. What are you wearing?

LegalBarbie · 10/03/2025 06:14

Thank you! It was awesome! I wore long brown boots with thermal tights and some extra socks, a blue shift dress and jumper, with brown jacket and checked scarf. I did have a hat but it was so mild I didn’t need it.

I nearly wore a denim dress and I am glad I didn’t. No-one would have thrown me out but denim wouldn’t have been quite the mood.

I think hospitality is not really denim. Hope you felt great and your expectations were met. Glad you didn't wear a rugby shirt!!

CharlotteCChapel · 10/03/2025 09:28

Rugby is casual even in hospitality. No-one would bat an eyelid if you turned up in a Rugby shirt and jeans.

BlondiePortz · 10/03/2025 09:30

I just wear normal clothes when I go
