FatFace kids clothes gone- where to shop now.......

lezsucks · 09/02/2025 21:59

Found out today that FatFace are no longer doing childrens clothing. They were a wardrobe staple for my kids, particularly for quality hoodies and tops for my daughter. Where do I go now? They like generally practical clothing, like tops and hoodies, jeans / trousers. I use boden ( but they've gone a bit weird), used to buy joules but their range has also gone a bit odd. My 8 year old daughter likes pretty, practical clothing but HATES M&S range. Doesn't want cropped tops, doesn't do black clothes ( they are miserable mummy), but not too bright either. Ethically I'm not big into fast fashion, like things that last them well.
My son has lived in fat face shorts for the last 7 years, any ideas who does similar cargo shorts? Could generally get 2 seasons out of them, being worn continuously all summer.
And while I've got my own wee thread: Anyone know where does similar waterproofs to polarn o pyret as their waterproofs no longer go bigger than age 10.... Honestly I've got money to spend, just can't find where to clothe my children

Thanks is advance for any advice.

I used to get some great stuff from mountain warehouse of all places for both my kids when younger, I’m not sure what age they go up to.

TakeMyLifeAndLetItBe · 10/02/2025 07:25

How about Frugi? They go up to age 10, I think.

TinkerSailer · 10/02/2025 07:29

Crew Clothing used to do kids clothes?
i haven’t checked if they still do but may be worth a look

PigInADuvet · 10/02/2025 07:36

What size are your kids in? I'm having a similar problem. My tall but not overly wide just turned 6 year old (boy) is in 10-11 clothes and it's all black, grey and gamer slogans since hes tipped over the 9/10 age bracket. 🙄

Any ideas welcome!

We like Villervalla for colourful, every day staples that are practical and wear well. Depending on the size you're looking for, Toby Tiger is good, Frugi are ok (quality has reduced from what it used to be). Kite clothing are also good and the shorts may be what you're looking for for your son.
Didriksons for waterproofs.

MyBigFatGreekSalad · 10/02/2025 08:49

Crew?

XxSideshowAuntSallyx · 10/02/2025 08:59

I can see Fat Face disappearing completely soon. Such a shame as it used to be (before Next got hold of it) good quality clothes, now it's all expensive poor quality, same clothes every season.

Oh that's got my worried. I've got vouchers to spend there but was holding out as I'm losing weight and it was going to be my reward to getting down to the size I want to be! Maybe I'll just have to get some stuff that won't matter if it's slightly too big like a new coat!

Sinkintotheswamp · 10/02/2025 09:54

Saltrock kids is pretty robust.

anon2022anon · 10/02/2025 10:01

Villervalla, maxomorra basics (the prints might be too young), mountain warehouse and Lindex, with the odd bit of H&M.
Villervalla leggings in particular are excellent and last forever.

Beamur · 10/02/2025 10:06

Gap kids? Always used to be good for tall slim shaped children?
I used to rate Lands End basics too. Really hard wearing leggings.
Joules?

Hannahthepink · 10/02/2025 10:33

I don't think anyone has mentioned Monsoon kids yet, I find some gems there and also loved the Fat Face kids range.

Verbenabon · 10/02/2025 10:37

Uniqlo is good for kids and Muddy Puddles for great quality waterproofs

Yeah fat face was a staple back in the early 00’s for its relaxed surfy vibe. Hadn’t realised the change was due to a takeover by next but makes sense, it’s now more middle aged mummy Boden style.

try:
roxy
quiksilver
animal
o’neill

mountain warehouse is surprisingly good, ours has an Animal concession as well.

Anonymouskitty · 10/02/2025 10:58

Try vinted. Might be able to get 2nd hand fatface in good condition. You can filter by brand

WilderHawthorn · 10/02/2025 11:21

Buy them on Vinted!

A more chilled out version of boden.

Kite, trespass, mountain warehouse and frugi are my go-to brands for DD aged 8.

IdaGlossop · 10/02/2025 01:05

Lands End? Good quality. Great for skorts if DS is sporty. Boys' cargo pants look more expensive than they are.

Edited

Oh no. DD 22 now so I'm out of date. Sorry!

lezsucks · 11/02/2025 07:25

Thanks all for your suggestions.it is proving more difficult to clothe particularly dd8 who l still likes to dress like a girl but has definitely progressed her taste from Bodens appliqué style. But is no where near ready for M&S gold spray painted jeans and cropped tops.

Next online can have some nice kids things.
M&S is not great once girls hit 9.

emailthis · 12/02/2025 00:06

Zara has some good bits (app is so much easier to navigate than the website) H&M too.
Look out for natural fibres and try and avoid all the Disney shite.

Wheat (particularly), Kidly, Little Green Radicals are my favourites for my DC clothes (a fair bit younger than your DD, but still might be worth a look).
Rylee & Cru, Little Cotton, more expensive but slightly more 'girly'

minipie · 12/02/2025 00:46

Try La Redoute although not really the same
beachy vibe.

White Stuff kids?

H&M - filter by material and set to cotton/wool/denim only and that will exclude most of the over trendy stuff.

orzomushroom · 12/02/2025 00:53

Have you actually looked at Sainsbury’s Tu range ? The clothes are good quality and not too garish…have a look ,you might be surprised!!!!

stickybear · 12/02/2025 06:35

I'm really sad about this, my kids have had lovely stuff from Fat Face over the years. It was good quality and nice bright colours without being too garish. So much boys' clothing is dull sludgy colours as soon as they're out of toddler sizes.
I don't really understand what Next / FatFace are doing tbh. It's always seemed like a very family focused brand, the kind of place you could kit the whole family out for your holidays! But the recent women's clothes have not appealed to me at all and the decision to drop kids' clothes is a strange one.
Agree with others that Crew do some nice children's stuff.

Couldn't agree more. Love fat face for both my children. We religiously purchased coats, jumpers, pyjamas from there. Completely gutted!
