Does this wedding ring look strange?

We went wedding ring shopping today. I thought I wanted a plain band to frame my engagement ring, but then I spotted this ring and was instantly drawn to it. I think because the diamonds are the same shape as my engagement ring. But does the gap between the two look weird? Is it too much sparkle overall for everyday wear? Can’t ask people in real life as I don’t think I’ll get honest opinions as no one will want to offend!

Who cares what others think;you love it so buy it.

Beautiful ring and I think they look good together, but not sure if it's too delicate and jutting out for a wedding ring? They're normally plain or minimally bejewelled because if you wear it every day for the next 30-40-50 years you don't want the stones getting knocked, getting caught or falling out. And you don't want the faff of removing it every time to protect it - washing dishes, going to the gym, travelling somewhere a bit dodgy, gardening etc. Or if you put on weight or bloat, an intricate ring is much harder to resize. I think there is a practicality to some traditions and that's why they've stuck around, even though standard wedding rings aren't as attractive as this one.

MeandBobbyMcGoo · 09/02/2025 23:21

I don't know about this "order of the rings" business but it looks upside down to me. If you asked me in real life, I would say swop the 2 around and then see what it looks like.

Artesia · 09/02/2025 23:47

What does it look like on its own? You might want to take engagement ring off sometimes and just wear wedding band

noideabutstilltrying · 10/02/2025 00:08

I like the diamond band but it looks like starting the diamonds further down the shoulders would fit with the engagement ring better.

That would stop the gap between the rings.

GildedRage · 10/02/2025 00:30

the reality is rings wiggle around, the semi circular shaped marquis band will very very rarely be lined up with the engagement center stone.
it's a nice band but not with that ring.
ask the jeweler if your engagement ring has a matching band, because the plain one doesn't go well with it either.

m00ngirl · 10/02/2025 01:49

Love it. Never too much sparkle! No it doesn't need to fit perfectly and the gap doesn't look weird. It's unique. Different stones speak to different people. If that ring speaks to you, it's the one for you. The plain band also looks lovely, but just go for what feels right to you, not for what anyone else thinks.

Marshatessa · 10/02/2025 01:57

Love it so different and beautiful to look at

FreedomandPeace · 10/02/2025 02:13

Traditionally
Thats an eternity ring
If you want to be traditional that is.

If you’re not fussed then I think the idea is nice but if you want them to sit together your first choice doesn’t really do that

Appleblum · 10/02/2025 02:32

I prefer the plain band because the other one doesn't fit right. The gap doesn't look nice.

LunaTheCat · 10/02/2025 03:17

I really like it… beautiful, also love yours NC…but I am not one for convention.

The shape of the diamonds is nice, but it looks strange because it doesn't fit into the engagement ring properly. They'll both move around a bit and get out of line.

A jeweller could make you one the same style, but which tessellates into your engagement ring exactly.

This. ☝️ They are both nice rings 💍 but don't quite fit together as they should- they should nest together more.

oakleaffy · 10/02/2025 04:28

@Cinnamonbonbon The ''Starburst'' one is way better than the boring old plain gold band.

No need to even alter it, as in real life not many people will notice unless the sunlight or halogen light flashes off it.

A friend has a beautiful diamond ring that she inherited, it's an absolute stunner, but I'd never noticed it before sitting opposite her at a meal and the restaurant lights were causing it to flash like a crazy thing..we normally meet outdoors and she has gloves or a handful of leather leads in her hand.

I was married last oct my dress my black flowers were white my ring in black and gold :) love yours x

RosesAndHellebores · 10/02/2025 05:37

I think the order of the rings does matter. The wedding ring is blessed during the marriage vows and goes on first and is not intended to be taken off. The engagement ring goes back on in the vestry. It may later be joined by an eternity ring.

I never take my wedding ring off. I take off my engagement and eternity rings to make pastry. I couldn't make pastry with the op's ring on.

In almost 34 years my wedding ring came off to be made a tiny bit bigger in about 2009 and in 2021 had to be cut off when I badly broke my wrist. It cost more to repair than we paid for it but it has meaning. It is a bit battered and worn now but I don't think a fancy ring like the op's would have endured.

Purplecatshopaholic · 10/02/2025 05:44

Stunning - love it

janedani · 10/02/2025 06:55

I would have it as an eternity ring not a wedding ring. Mainly from a practical point of view, the claws will catch and wear down over time and with it being a wedding ring it is something you will be wearing all the time and don't want to have to take off for housework, gardening etc. A plain smooth wedding ring is much more practical day to day. I used to work in a jewellers and have lots of lovely rings but the only one I wear all the time is my plain wedding band that used to be my grans.

wonderingwhatlifemeans · 10/02/2025 06:59

Excuse fat fingers but this is mine. It is a mix of diamonds and a band? It fits around my engagement ring.

TimeForSpring · 10/02/2025 07:02

The diamond one looks better than the plain one. If you aren't going to get one made for the engagement ring, I'd go with that one.
Not too much sparkle - although if you go with a shaped wedding ring, you are unlikely to ever wear just your wedding band. Not sure if that's an issue.

Crankyaboutfood · 10/02/2025 07:09

ChocolateTea · 09/02/2025 19:46

Ask a jeweller to make you something similar but that sits right with your engagement ring. I did this and it wasn’t that much more than an off the shelf one tbh, and I love mine.

This. Live both rings but fitted to yours would be better.

Completelyjo · 10/02/2025 07:32

I don’t think it looks weird at all. I’ve got something similar and I always wear it as the outer ring. You can do it however you want!

Rockingroll · 10/02/2025 07:34

If you’re Christian and having a church wedding. Not universal

for the poster talking about what happens in a church wedding

This is you though. My engagement ring didn’t come off during my ceremony, my wedding ring wasn’t blessed, I wear them however I want.

In 15 years I’ve taken my wedding ring off 1000s of times but I’m no less married!
Its a weird “rule” to try to enforce on others when OP wants to wear it the way she has shown.

Nerdynerdynerd · 10/02/2025 07:35

Cinnamonbonbon · 09/02/2025 19:41

Oh thanks, here is a plain band as an example for contrast. I think it’d need to be a wishbone shape to sit flush against the engagement ring though.

Noooo the first one is absolutely gorgeous!! I love it!! Don't go plain, the first is so special and unique. Who cares which should go first or second!

SecondMrsTanqueray · 10/02/2025 07:36

Horrid. The plain band is much nicer and classier.
