Trainers/shoes when risk of plantar?

Any ideas? I had bad PF so went with Air Jordans but they are now broken so looking for alternatives? Also, anyone wear Doc Martens when they suffer from PF?

Stay way from the DMs - they triggered off three years of excruciatingly painful PF

I started to wear ASICS gels Jon stop.

Lentilweaver · 03/02/2025 13:33

Maybe I will be exiled from S and B but I walk a lot- way over 10,000 steps a day- and Fitflops Rally are by far the most comfy trainers I have tried. They are not trendy, but recommended for PF.
Honestly like walking on air.

Get some Fitflop trainers
Recommend F Mode ones

On Cloud are the best for me.
Brooks are pretty good too.
Fitflop Rally are fine but not for all day walking around, personally.

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 03/02/2025 16:33

DMs are fine for me.

FairyBatman · 03/02/2025 16:37

It's not about the brand but the specific trainer you choose. Each brand will have stability shoes and neutral.

mantaraya · 03/02/2025 17:14

I wear DMs but only with orthotics. Definitely not the best for PF. My most comfortable shoes are trainers. I just tried on a load of pairs to find the ones that felt most supportive. They're Nike and ugly but luckily ugly trainers are on trend!

Idontjetwashthefucker · 03/02/2025 17:18

I love Hoff trainers, so comfortable and supportive, they have memory foam insoles too. Longest walk in them was 20 miles 👍

SlipperyLizard · 03/02/2025 17:23

I haven’t found any trainers with enough built in arch support to stop me getting PF, so I buy supportive ones & put my own arch support insoles in (superfeet green at the moment).

Enertor were my favourite insoles, but the last pair I bought were very different and didn’t provide anything like the arch support I need.

I have worn fly boots with insoles, but tend to live in trainers these days as my feet are so needy!

SleepingisanArt · 03/02/2025 17:27

I used to get PF quite frequently and would spend 6 months or more in fitflop trainers. I couldn't wear them to work so invested in a pair of brogue style lace ups from Ecco. They are fab! Haven't had PF for years and the shoes are indestructible!

Phineyj · 03/02/2025 18:16

Skechers work well for me, with these insoles:

NewHeaven · 03/02/2025 18:18

The Fitflop brand is brilliant for plantar as they have inbuilt insoles & memory foam insoles.

Ilovelowry · 03/02/2025 18:36

I'm OK with on cloud originals, but I do also have a heel raise in there too for achilles tendinitis.

And an insole in my other foot to help with Neuroma.

Stay well away from memory foam. Or soft squishy shoes. And you need to be able to tighten the shoe ideally with laces or too much foot movement in the shoe can make it worse.

I wear bare feet at home on our flagstone floors which I find much better than shoes in the house.

SlipperyLizard · 03/02/2025 18:49

Thanks @NewHeaven I’ve tried FitFlop before but they weren’t supportive enough (fitflop wellies were a particular disappointment as they felt great for the first half mile or so!). Perhaps I need to try more styles.

Oceangrey · 03/02/2025 18:54

See, I found Hoff really painful and unsupportive. It's very individual.

FrankoferrisWheelieBin · 03/02/2025 18:59

Personally cushioned shoes make my ankles dance allover the place, too much bounce isn't good for my feet so if you are like me I found Vionic and Asics good.

FrankoferrisWheelieBin · 03/02/2025 19:01

Birkenstock and Doc Martens are incredibly uncomfortable to me but some people swear by them!

pinkdelight · 03/02/2025 23:26

ASICS gels here too. No DMs for me, sadly too painful.

ZaZathecat · 04/02/2025 08:57

I wear anything as long as I have my arch support insoles

Cantonet · 04/02/2025 10:32

I'm currently wearing Adidas Bold flatforms & Gabor loafers with custom made insoles. While my P. F. was at it's worse i lived in Oofos slides/mules & Joya trainers. Oofos shoes are soft, squishy & comfortable for very sore feet.

batt3nb3rg · 04/02/2025 11:28

I completely cured my plantar fasciitis in a couple of months (couldn’t say for sure but definitely under 4) by going barefoot while indoors, which is 80% of the time for me, and wearing minimal, very low support barefoot shoes with a wide toe box the rest of the time. Now I jog barefoot on a treadmill for twenty minutes most days to keep my foot muscles strong as I’m having to wear boots while out.

Cantonet · 04/02/2025 12:13

I was told on no account go barefoot at all. I ruptured a ligament in my foot & couldn't take one step without my arch support slippers.

unsync · 04/02/2025 12:34

Birkenstock trainers are good. I also have boots, shoes and sandals. I've been wearing Birkies for over 20 years and never have trouble with my feet.

YYURYYUCICYYUR4ME · 04/02/2025 13:07

I wear Gabor trainers, as they have a very good internal support, cushioning. Much prefer to some of the more sport orientated trainers.
