Plus Size Mother of the Bride Outfit

To cut a very long story short, my daughter will be getting married within the next three weeks and I need an outfit urgently. Nothing is booked yet (will be very small, not in this country) but I want to look smart and as though I have made an effort! Any links to anything you ladies think would be suitable would be much appreciated! I have no idea what suits me (nothing does, really) but I have in mind maybe a waterfall type jacket?
Size 22/24 below, 24/26 on top.

Upper arms are unattractive as you age and even more so if you are overweight!

Charming. Well guess what, I show my arms off and don’t give a toss what people who like to body shame think. There are some right charmers on this thread today.

Redburnett · 05/02/2025 08:57

Do not bother with Debenhams, hopeless company. I recently ordered 4 dresses suitable for a wedding guest. Over the next few days they cancelled all my orders and refunded. A complete waste of time after me scrawling their pages and thinking i might have found something suitable. If in doubt read Trustpilot reviews of their customer service.

Just speaking from personal experience! I’m including my own arms here-I hate them!

Yes it's clear it's your personal experience of thinking fat arms are disgusting and should be hidden away.

I didn’t say disgusting, but sleeveless dresses aren’t flattering to fat, saggy or otherwise unattractive arms imo!

@buffyajp , are you a bit touchy?

Bigearringsbigsmile · 05/02/2025 16:37

That kimi Telford dress is absolutely hideous but the heritage clothing ones are beautiful!!!!

This threads got a bit side tracked.

Time is short please could people only comment if they have any useful suggestions for the OP’s special occasion rather than insulting one another and derailing the thread.

Not sure how old you are OP, how tall you are, what colours or style you like but maybe try.

Maybe try Chesca some styles are better than others but all cut in a flattering way.

Hi
If you are in Leeds go over to Harrogate to Snooty Frox.
Fabulous privately owned shop with a wonderful cafe upstairs.

@Chocolatey1234 , I'm not sure if the OP is in the UK. Also, if you add links, it saves from having to search for the site.

Thank you all for your suggestions. I haven’t abandoned the thread, just very busy arranging flights and putting off any dress decision making …….. I have also been away which is adding to my difficulties!
Nevertheless, I have ordered some dresses from Phase Eight which I hope will arrive by the weekend, and will fit!
I have taken on board what Redburnett has said about Debenhams, and will avoid!
Sadly, lucindalucinsa I don’t live in Leeds, although I very much wish I did!
My arms will most certainly not be on show, but I have no issues with a sleeveless dress and jacket. I hadn’t thought that a waterfall jacket involved showing arms, I thought it was one with “normal” sleeves and sort of tiered at the front.
I am on the train at the moment but will look at all of the other suggestions when I get in. Any colours at all would be lovely as not fussy, apart from red.
Thank you so much for all your help. It is much appreciated.

I’ve found Gina Bacconi dresses to be comfortable and flattering and dressy & like this one for example. I would order about 20 from JL and try them all on in the comfort of my own home.

Crispynoodle · 06/02/2025 14:38

I wore this in pale blue to one daughter's fancy wedding and in emerald green to the other daughter's not fancy wedding
