Overnight spa when on your own

Lozza70 · 26/01/2025 16:51

So being made redundant and thinking about treating myself to an overnight spa trip to decompress and reset a bit. Am I mad thinking about going away on my own? What would be the best spas in the south east for a trip like this, where I would not stand out think a complete loser by being on my own….😬

What’s your budget?

hopeishere · 26/01/2025 16:52

This would be my absolute dream to do!!

SpaDaze · 26/01/2025 16:58

I go on my own all the time, mostly Champneys on deals.
The staff are always very tactful when seating me and plenty of other solitary diners.
It gets a bit lonely when I do three nights, two is perfect to get the most out of your room and feeling like you re not checking in checking out in leas than 24 hours.

Nicecatneighbour · 26/01/2025 17:05

There's a nice one in Bury St Edmunds. Used to be Clarice House, now Bannatyne.

SnidelyWhiplash · 26/01/2025 17:12

I did this for 5 blissful nights last year. I had a spare week between leaving one job and starting another.

I had a massage every day and 3 other treatments each day including facials, body wraps, scrubs and colonic hydrotherapy. It was incredibly relaxing. I floated about and slept and read between treatments.

If I had time, I would do it every year. I can’t remember how much it cost, in the region of £1800, I think.

butterfly0404 · 26/01/2025 17:17

I'm hoping to do the same for my birthday soon, following for recommendations:-)

Tootingbec · 26/01/2025 17:19

Oh my god yes! Bliss to go and just relax, read, snooze…..

Pick somewhere where you can float about between the spa and treatments and your room without needing to get out of your slippers and robe! And where they do room service.

My preference is a hotel with a lovely spa attached, ideally within walking distance of something else (lovely town or a coastal walk for example)

My problem is I find many spas are full of screeching hen do’s or couples talking non stop in the steam room! Just want to tell them to BE QUIET!!! Maybe there is a market for silent retreat type luxury spas for grumpy middle aged women 😉

Midweek best for avoiding this and you might get a better deal too.

What a wonderful idea. We like the Lifehouse in Essex. It has a very good restaurant. Have a look at The Grove in Hertfordshire.

Lozza70 · 26/01/2025 19:40

Budget about £500-£700 for two nights I think. It’s been a tough year or so at work and think this would be a good thing to do just for me. Great to hear from other solo spa users and that its an okay thing to do.

I got made redundant and went to Pikalbatros in Egypt for 5 nights for £700 in December on my own. It was absolute heaven.

potplantsinparadise · 26/01/2025 19:47

I've also done this solo and would agree on a 2-night stay being perfect.

In the SE on your budget, the Spread Eagle in Midhurst is lovely - glorious old inn, bar area with open fires, lovely food, just make sure to book your treatments in advance.

Mid week sounds like a good idea. Definitely do not want screeching hen do’s. Seeing myself drifting around having treatments, reading, hanging out, sleeping…..

Recommend Sopwell House, St Albans. Definitely upgrade to The Cotton Mill. Treatments are great and lots of space to relax in peace.

Sunbeam01 · 26/01/2025 19:56

I'd second Nivana.

Have a wonderful time!

Pippatpip · 26/01/2025 19:57

I do this regularly. Always on my own. Loads of others on their own and over the years I've met some fascinating people. I go to Forest Mere. There are deals on at the moment. You need two nights ideally as it takes half a day to decompress and the day you leave is planning where to leave stuff, vacating room and timings with treatments and classes. Do it. You will love it. Forest Mere has nice walks too.

Just priced this up for end of Feb, about 1200 depending on date for 5 nights...very, very tempted:-)

Not this again, honestly noone cares

Everyone who has commented above suggests otherwise. What a strange thing to say.

Why don't you fuck off then if you aren't interested ? Job done !

I think its overthinking it to worry about doing it on your own or what others will think if they see you there. Nobody will bat an eyelid. Whenever I use a spa (even for the day) I go alone. Lots of people travel alone by necessity and use the pool / restaurant / get a treatment. It's very normal.

Yes. We spent a couple of nights there in September. Loved the Cottonmill spa.

Sorry, but I think Champneys is not good. I used to love it but I think it’s got cheap and nasty. Treatments are rubbish.
