Good Vitamin C Cream

johnworf · 24/01/2025 16:40

I've just signed up for Skin & Me and am subscribed to the tretinoin, niacinamide and azelaic acid daily doser.

I'm looking for a good vitamin C cream to use on my face in the mornings. Is the one from Skin & Me any good? Think it's £19.99 for 8 weeks worth.

Thanks

Hi OP, I use Geek and Gorgeous Vitamin C serum called C Glow - it's not in cream form though.

It's quite cheap, maybe £10 or so per bottle, but the product itself is very good; its active ingredient is L-Ascorbic Acid, is sort of the gold standard for vitamin c.

The only problem is you can't buy it in shops, only online. That's kind of a good thing though because good quality vitamin c serum should be used fresh, ideally within a few weeks of opening, instead of languishing on a shelf.

Never used skin & me

However i do use Medik8 vit c and highly rate it.

Currently sold out. Shame as it's very affordable. Will have to keep an eye on when back in stock.

Just wanted to say OP, if you have quite sensitive skin then L Ascorbic Acid might be quite irritating, as it is formulated at quite a low ph.

There are vitamin c creams and serums that contain derivatives of Vitamin C. I think one is called sodium ascorbic phosphate - basically a more stable version, perhaps a little less effective but still really good. And is more gentle on the skin and crucially for producers, it has a longer shelf life.

Thanks for the advice. I've noticed on some products containing ascorbic acid the reviews have said that it's burned their skin. 😲

I'll have a look for the derivative one.

I have just started on the same combination from Skin & Me and can highly recommend the Geek and Glow Vitamin C.
It stings ever so slightly when applied but then is fine. It's a tiny bit tacky but really sits well under makeup.
I'm not one for repeat purchases but I will deffo buy this again.

I had a look at the Geek and Glow one but felt I would be better off (with my sensitive skin) using one on the advice of HornyHornersPinkyWinky that doesn't contain ascorbic acid. I've gone for the Florence Organics which has a pH of between 5 and 6.5.

Once my skin has become used to it I might be able to move over to Geek and Glow.

Skinceuticals vit c if you can afford it. Dr Dennis gross vit c is a “dupe” but not as it’s good in its own right. Naturium and Cerave are great budget options!

Yes Skin+Me's vitamin C serum is good. It feels more premium than The Ordinary. I apply it in the morning and Monderma tret in the evening.

The Ordinary's vitamin c does cause a slight burn on your face after showering/cleansing but is so effective for lightening.
