Please can anybody recommend a very simple natural face moisturiser?

I have a very bad eye allergy to the point where my corneas were becoming damaged. The eye hospital don't know what causes it, but prescribed me eye drops and a strong antihistamine to take each day.

Because of this, I can't wear makeup or use products on my face. I can just about get away with a tiny amount of Cerave facial wash. I was using a small amount of Cerave moisturiser on my face, but my eyes are flaring up recently and I don't know why, so I've stopped using that.

I'm now washing my hair leaning back so no shampoo gets on my face. No tap water on face, only Evian water and La Roche Posay spring water spray as a sort of moisturiser. No towel or flannel on my eyes either in case it's a laundry product that's the problem.

Please can anyone recommend a super simple moisturiser? I'd prefer nothing greasy. It can't be anything commercial like the stuff in chemists because they all contain petrochemicals. I have had coconut oil before, but I'm not that keen on oils. I can't use aloe vera either.

I just need something basic to stop my face feeling dry and tight after a shower.

a dab of pure glycerine?

RobinEllacotStrike · 23/01/2025 20:26

Rosehip oil is good for the face.

Thus sounds like a difficult condition- I hope you find something that works

I have extremely sensitive skin made worse by menopause.
I have yet to find a moisturiser that doesn't annoy me but I can give you a list to rule out;
Clinique
Epionce
La Roche Posay
Cera Ve
Boots range designed for menopausal skin.
Liz Earle
Queen Bee
Lancaster
Clarins
Simple
Any Garnier Nivea etc

All of above irritated my skin .
Hopefully this will save you a few £££ trying these brands out.

Asvoria · 23/01/2025 20:46

Rosehip oil sounds like a possibility, thanks.

Thanks 😊 it gets so expensive trying different things out. This is why I thought I'd just try plant based stuff.

Jojoba oil is also good as it replicates your natural skin sebum.

I’ve had great results with Zoe Bee Beauty moisturisers as well.

rainingoutsideagain · 23/01/2025 20:50

Zoe bee beauty products 100% natural

Castor oil as a remover or night oil with Jojoba oil and frankincense essential oil

Purplecatshopaholic · 23/01/2025 20:50

The Ordinary does a rosehip oil that might work?

rainingoutsideagain · 23/01/2025 20:52

Whoops just read you don't want oil.

100% Zoe Bee Beauty products then

Ignore my castor oil/jojoba suggestions!

mabelandmaud · 23/01/2025 20:55

I have sensitive skin and I get this one https://www.purenuffstuff.co.uk/products/Unscented-daily-face-cream-UK?cat=60 I've never had any issues with it.
Also I buy from here https://handmadenaturals.co.uk/

Ginkypig · 23/01/2025 21:10

my skin has been playing up for ages reactive, red itchy etc. to the point I don’t want to put anything on it.

Iv been reading up about xylitol for teeth but have found out that it has been proven to be good for skin and it draws moisture to the skin and retains it. And there is evidence that it inhibits the growth of certain bacteria that grow on the skin.

i looked up and found glycerin is good for skin too.

the recipe I found is literally

100ml of water

1 spoon of xylitol

and 1 or two drops of glycerin

put a spoon of xylitol into the water and wait for it to dissolve (takes a little while) then add 1 or 2 drops of the glycerin and put in a spray bottle and use the spray as moisturiser.

tangobravo · 23/01/2025 21:11

My skin is sensitive but perhaps not as sensitive as yours, I really like Coats water cream

MrsJHernandez · 23/01/2025 21:14

Unfortunately, it's going to be trial and error for you. Here are some suggestions...

Facetheory HydraOat Soothing Daily Moisturiser
AVEENO Dermexa Emollient Cream
Chuckling Goat Probiotic Kefir Lotion
Eucerin UltraSensitive Soothing Care
Green People Scent Free 24-Hour Cream
REN Evercalm
MooGoo Soothing MSM Moisturiser

lakesandplains · 23/01/2025 21:18

www.chucklinggoat.co.uk/product/probiotic-kefir-lotion/

And if that doesn't work, worth a message to them as they'll try and help.

Pamspeople · 23/01/2025 21:21

Try Green People - I think if you contact them and explain your situation they would send you a sample to try. Theirs is the only sun lotion I can use without my skin going crazy.

Porridgeislife · 23/01/2025 21:21

Do you know what you’re allergic to? Have they offered you a 5 day contact allergen test? Rather than blindly trying things I’d push for testing.

I get dermatitis around my eyes due to a common preservative called phenoxyethanol which is in virtually everything as it took over when parabens became unpopular. Cerave and Aveeno both use it.

Best alternative currently is QV Lotion available on Amazon. I also like pure tallow but it is a bit greasy.

KittenPause · 23/01/2025 21:24

Boots sell a glycerin toner

Superdrug sell a lovely serum called

Simply Pure hydrating day serum

Please can anybody recommend a very simple natural face moisturiser?
WinterCarlisle · 23/01/2025 21:25

I am really prone to dermatitis all around my eyes. It’s a nightmare. I’m currently waiting for a dermatology appointment. In the meantime, the only thing that seems to be ok is Epimax cream which is a blend of white soft paraffin and liquid paraffin. This was recommended to me by a specialist pharmacist and so far, so good. It’s cheap too!

Best of luck.

Porridgeislife · 23/01/2025 21:25

I haven’t tried it myself but Avene also do a range called Xeracalm which is preservative free. You can get it on Amazon here.

MissScarletInTheBallroom · 23/01/2025 21:26

I know you said you'd prefer not to use oils, but the rose facial oil and rose beauty balm from Neal's Yard are lovely. I find they sink nicely into my skin rather than sitting on the surface.

WinterCarlisle · 23/01/2025 21:28

Oh I’m so sorry, just read your OP again and you said no petrochemicals. 🤦🏼‍♀️ I was eager to post as the epimax has been amazing for me.

28Fluctuations · 23/01/2025 21:29

I would start with products that have a single ingredient - so pure oils (almond, grapeseed, etc) or pure cocoa butter.

Hope you find a solution!

rainbowsandcloudyskies · 23/01/2025 21:33

Aveeno dry skin relief is the only thing that I can use. Oh, and Vaseline.

Longhotsummers · 23/01/2025 21:38

Weleda - currently on offer at M&S.
