I need a face oil (I think), but...

My skin hates (in no particular order), oils, silicones, waxes, shea butter etc., you get the gist. I use The Ordinary's Natural Moisturising Factors moisturiser which doesn't have any of those things. But I've reached an age where I need something more heavy duty. My skin looks dull and not plump.

Commercial formulations usually have some or all of those so I'm thinking of braving a pure oil, but which one given how my skin reacts which would be least likely to cause a reaction? Rosehip seems popular but there are so many others to choose from.

TIA

Jojoba and rosehip are best for not getting a reaction

Yes these are good, jojoba is supposed to be the closest to your natural oils as well.

Or have you heard of slugging? Vaseline all over. It gets a bad rap but Vaseline is the most un reactive thing medically speaking. Shouldn’t cause an issue unless you have acne prone skin.

Sorry, left Vaseline off the list. Anything at all occlusive basically. Pepperoni pizza with extra sweetcorn face!

Germaine de Cappucini Multi-Regenerating Rosehip Oil is amazing. Not the cheapest but you hardly need to use any so it lasts for months.

If your skin hates oils, why do you want a face oil?

I love this one https://uk.loccitane.com/immortelle-divine-youth-oil-27DH030I22.html#

Maybe you could get samples to see if you react?

Are you sure you need moisturiser though.
Maybe try just washing face with water and not using any moisturizer for a week or so and see how it feels.

Because it's one pure ingredient rather than trying a heavier moisturiser, which I know is a disaster because they all have a cocktail of the things I can't do. This might be, but I'm prepared to give it a go.

I like coconut oil

I like coconut oil

So do I 🙂. It's also cheap to buy in Lidl or Asda food isles. If you decide you don't like it you can always use it for cooking or baking!

I love rosehip but used squalene oil a while ago. I think it was an inky list one. It is apparently very close to oil skin produces and was not at all greasy.

Well I bought a £6 pot of Bio Oil dry skin gel off amazon and it's transformed my dried 56 year old face a treat. I feel like a different women

Sadly the first ingredient is liquid paraffin, and it has several silicones and shea butter in it. 🍕🍕

I would highly recommend a serum called The Juice by a brand called Monday Muse. The texture is unlike anything I’ve tried before - it’s kind of like what I imagine liquidised cucumber would be like. Very soothing and calming, and makes skin plump and dewy.
i also love their moisturiser and face oil, but the Juice is the one that’s made the most difference to my skin.
The whole range is formulated for sensitive skin.

Another L'Occitane product - Immortelle reset night serum. It makes my skin feel lovely. Expensive on the website but often find it cheaper from ebay sellers.
I struggle with finding suitable skin moisturisers - can't use shea butter, coco butter, citrus oils, lanolin or any other wool fat derivatives. So I sympathise.

I use The Ordinary HA natural factors with photoceramides one. I also use Inkey List Hyaluronic Acid serum beforehand to trap in moisture. I think it has smoothed my skin. I then add Rosehip Oil at night most nights. Sukin and Evolve Organic are both nice and not expensive. I tried them both on Vinted.

In terms of glow I was wondering the same for my skin. I'm looking at trying at adding a Vitamin C serum or toner. In summer I'll probably switch to Vitamin C moisturiser as I don't need as much deep moisture in summer. i wouldn't swap a moisturiser out for oil but I do have very dry skin. I feel like oil just sits on it and soaks in a little.

Sparklingsplashes · 19/01/2025 03:40

I’ve used jojoba, almond and rosehip. Out of all of them almond is my favourite, it’s lighter than jojoba. Have you thought of oil cleansing? You put the oil on and the. Use a hot cloth to take it away. You might not need moisturiser after this but you also do not leave oil on your skin all night.

Sparklingsplashes · 19/01/2025 03:40

Coconut oil was too thick for me and made me breakout when applied and left on over night.

NautilusLionfish · 19/01/2025 04:41

Any organic rose hip oil should be ok. I also loved Fushi's Camellia oil

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 19/01/2025 06:40

Have you tried Weleda Skjn Food?

Water (Aqua), Helianthus Annuus (Sunflower) Seed Oil, Lanolin, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (Sweet Almond) Oil, Beeswax (Cera Alba), Alcohol, Polyglyceryl-3 Polyricinoleate, Glycerin, Limonene, Viola Tricolor Extract, Hydrolyzed Beeswax, Sorbitan Olivate, Rosmarinus Officinalis (Rosemary) Leaf Extract, Chamomilla Recutita (Matricaria) Flower Extract, Calendula Officinalis Flower Extract, Arginine, Zinc Sulfate, Fragrance (Parfum), Linalool, Geraniol, Citral, Coumarin.

There's a light version too. It's fab. Ingredients are listed as :

Another fan of bio oil for my face - I found it to better than Rosehip oil.

Lampzade · 19/01/2025 07:04

Camellia oil. - used by Japanese people . It is not oily and can be used by people who have acne .
Contains natural fatty acids

Zuve · 19/01/2025 07:09

I just use pure olive oil soap. It leaves my skin lovely

soupfiend · 19/01/2025 08:45

Olive oil or lavender oil

You dont need a facial product necesarily

Smellslikemiddleagedspirits · 19/01/2025 08:50

I use jojoba, argan or rosehip. Cannot get on with olive or coconut oil though. But the closest to our own skin, and the one that makes my skin feel the best, is organic tallow!

Estelle74uk · 19/01/2025 08:53

Have you heard of/tried Nuxe oil.
