I need a face oil (I think), but...

My skin hates (in no particular order), oils, silicones, waxes, shea butter etc., you get the gist. I use The Ordinary's Natural Moisturising Factors moisturiser which doesn't have any of those things. But I've reached an age where I need something more heavy duty. My skin looks dull and not plump.

Commercial formulations usually have some or all of those so I'm thinking of braving a pure oil, but which one given how my skin reacts which would be least likely to cause a reaction? Rosehip seems popular but there are so many others to choose from.

TIA

Living libations, Seabuckthorn oil is brilliant

SoScarletItWas · 19/01/2025 09:01

I avoid moisturisers with shea butter etc too. If you are looking for plumpness and glow, you could try adding hyaluronic acid and Vitamin C.

I use The Inkey HA and use a pea sized drop after cleansing.

I also use Inkey collagen peptide serum after the HA to help plumpness. Followed by my usual moisturiser.

i genuinely think these two things have made a huge difference over the past couple of months.

Vit C serum is good to combat dullness - I liked Timeless but you can get others for cheaper.

I’ve paused it as I ran out but haven’t noticed any dullness yet.

Trilogy rosehip oil

Kdkdkfj · 19/01/2025 10:44

Can you put a bit of sudocrem on the break out areas?

Was the shea pure or other things added?

with oils less is definitely better.

Branleuse · 19/01/2025 11:45

Have you tried just coconut oil?

Have you heard of/tried Nuxe oil.

My sister swears by this but it's the one oil that my intensely non-reactive skin cannot handle. Gave me eczema on my eyelids. Odd.

If your skin hates oils, why do you want a face oil?

I love this one https://uk.loccitane.com/immortelle-divine-youth-oil-27DH030I22.html#

Maybe you could get samples to see if you react?

Are you sure you need moisturiser though.
Maybe try just washing face with water and not using any moisturizer for a week or so and see how it feels.

Dry as the Sahara and ageing fast, is how it's likely to feel.

I'm very reactive and nuxe oil is perfect for me.

GoldVermillion · 19/01/2025 13:01

Nuxe oil has several tree nut oils in. Maybe that's my issue? I get a really sore tongue when I eat walnuts. Maybe a very mild allergy.

NoCarbsForMe · 19/01/2025 19:49

Rosehip

Gymnopedie · 20/01/2025 22:02

Thank you all for lots of things I hadn't even heard of. I'm busy reading ingredients lists and weighing them all up. Decisions, decisions!

I love Gruum's Prickly Pear oil. It's very light.

Me too, was waiting for someone to recommend it.

VeryScary · 21/01/2025 08:27

Reading this thread with interest. I’ve never used an oil. Do you use them before, after or instead of moisturiser?

MySweetGeorgina · 21/01/2025 08:43

I have sensitive and dry old skin Grin

And I love REN products, and for a real boost there is Weleda Skin food

I can't use Vaseline, or most oils, but REN and Weleda work for me

WorldDobbleChampion · 21/01/2025 08:49

I can't use any creamy moisturisers, they all break me out and make me greasy. I always have to use a light, oil free, gel type

But I have no issue with straight face oils, it was very unexpected! I only use at night, last step of the routine. They make the biggest difference to the appearance of my skin. Give a light oil a try as recommended.

LightandBreezy · 21/01/2025 08:56

Bioessence Squalane + Vit C oil - an oil that feels like it adds moisture as well as helping to hold moisture in ( not sure if that makes sense, sorry) Ingredients are - Squalane, Tetrahexyldecyl Ascorbate, Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride , Pistacia Lentiscus (Mastic) Gum, Rosa Damascena Flower Extract, Geraniol, Citronellol.
It's expensive but often in beauty bags, so you could pick some up on eBay or vinted and trial cheaply. Sold in space nk too so if you are near a store you could ask for a sample.

Kdkdkfj · 22/01/2025 19:56

Don’t make a sudden switch. Mix with your favourite face cream to start.

argyllherewecome · 22/01/2025 20:03

I usually use rosehip oil, but on holiday ran out and found a bottle of extra virgin olive oil in the cupboard, and have been using that since. It's cheaper and seems to give the same effects.

Quacking4it · 30/06/2025 21:51

Trilogy rosehip oil has been great for me. I was worried about using an oil but its not greasy and skin absorbs it. Has made a real difference. Its 100% organic rosehip
