I'm due an eye test next week & reckon I'll get some new frames.

I've seen some gorgeous ones which I'll think I'll get but I'll also try on a load of others before deciding.

It's going to cost £500+ with the lens

This seems like a lot but I wear them a lot & they're so visible that I want them to be really nice.

How much have you spent & are there any makes you particularly like

@wwyd2021medicine I don't exactly know, but with high quality, well measured varifocals, I have never had to adjust. They have been perfect from day one. I have friends who have gone the Specsavers route and they have said there have been return visits and their new glasses have taken some getting used to.

Same here with varifocals at independent optician. Compared to friend who had ones not fitted properly at SS as I said in earlier post.

Honestly I don't really understand it myself @wwyd2021medicine. All I know is that there is a very stark difference between what I can see through Nikon Seemax lenses and what I can see through anything else. The fitting of my first set was a revelation.
The optician explained it to me as a difference in how they are ground. "Normal" lenses are ground using something like 4 points of reference where the bespoke ground ones like mine use hundreds of points, to make sure you can actually see properly through them across the whole lens, rather than just making sure you can see through the middle bit.

Indeed - hard to fathom even with that explanation 😂
Very interesting though that you noticed a stark difference

About 800 quid for Lindberg varifocals. That was a couple of years ago with a 20% discount through my John Lewis membership.

I notice that the discount is still available but now specifically excludes Lindberg frames.

Cost per wear with glasses innit.

fivebyfivebuffy · 18/01/2025 19:38

It's frustrating because I get the frames vary a lot in price
But paying to see is fucking annoying! Especially when you can't afford to fork out for the higher quality lenses because it's 2 weeks wages so specsavers/asda or nothing it is

I wear mine daily. I love glasses and am happy to spend. Usually £1200-£1500 because I get top of the range varigocal lenses

I am trying to save up for a new pair(s). Although 2 for 1 at Specsavers sounds good, it all still adds up to around £500. I have lost a few pairs in the past so really must concentrate on keeping them safe! At the moment I have reading glasses which are not great, I can just about see to red and write/type.

I normalyl go for a slight cats eye style as I think it lifts the face (gives the illusion one hopes of the face sagging less). If I had a lot of money I would do a Prue Leith and have many colours but I normally stick to one colour and a tortoiseshell.

I tend to get the 2 for 1 specsavers. I've found the cheaper range (£90 and below) have the glasses frames I like - big and colourful plastic frames. But the cost of lenses shove it up to about £300 for two pairs.

Saying that, I've been looking at some of the links shared on this thread and I am so tempted to splurge next time I need glasses.
