Office Shoes - are these fashionable?

Isittimeforbedyet1 · 09/01/2025 13:28

Help please. I’ve got a job interview and no idea what shoes to wear. It’s office based in a design type business so I want to look vaguely fashionable! Thinking a top and black trousers, with these?

Any thoughts gratefully received!

Those would be perfect

My 30 year old daughter calls them men shoes. I'm not a fan either. They look really uncomfortable.

How do they look uncomfortable?

BooberFraggle · 09/01/2025 14:21

i would say unfashionable but then Office are normally quite with it. I like loafers but I thought much chunkier ones are in. Maybe I’m behind the times! 😁. I mean for a job interview they’re inoffensive.

oh sorry, edited to add that I realise now you didn’t mean shoes available in Office the shop!

BooberFraggle · 09/01/2025 14:24

Are you wearing a dress or trousers?

I prefer this style of loafer if with trousers

Oh no!

Don't buy shoes just for the interview unless you like them anyway.

festivemouse · 09/01/2025 15:13

I wear those style of shoes at work - find them really comfortable and smart enough!

MsWintertowne · 09/01/2025 15:32

The exact pair you show look a little dowdy and are slightly missing the fashionable shape. Which probably won’t matter if you’re interviewing for an admin / accountancy type role. But if they’re looking for someone to fill an actual design role then you might want to choose a more contemporary / impactful loafer.

Grenson or Cos both have sales on and may have what you want.

Isittimeforbedyet1 · 09/01/2025 16:27

Thank you, this is all very helpful! Interesting range of opinions! I’ll take a look and see what else I can find. I actually picked those ones as I have Air & Grace trainers and find them very comfy so hoping the loafers would be too. But they might not be quite right.

Edited

They're bland and inoffensive. 8 could be improved by the rest of an outfit but they won't add anything to an outfit.

I don't like loafers.

Sorry edited - have seen your post.

Youtookmyhandle · 09/01/2025 17:09

They look old-fashioned to me although I have no idea what's in fashion right now.

WoppingBigBackside · 09/01/2025 18:28

I think they're OK, smart and not-old-fashioned. I wouldn't buy or wear them because I don't like loafers.

AndThereSheGoes · 09/01/2025 18:34

Chunky loafers have always been cooler - 80's, 90's and now.

Thin ones are what European men wear with no socks.

Flippinec · 09/01/2025 18:46

I wouldn't overthink it. I work in finance and wear clean smart white trainers most days. Including with suits when I have important meetings. Scruffy trainers, no, flip flops no.

Exactly what I was thinking!

I really like this look but am just a bit nervous about going to an interview in trainers!

Do not wear trainers to an interview.

FloralMoon · 09/01/2025 19:44

I love the shoes you linked! I bought some trendier chunky loafers and have only worn them once as they were heavy and clunky (and just not me…)

Wish I’d got these you’ve found! Bet you get loads of use from them and they’ll smarten up almost anything. I don’t think they look old fashioned at all (I’m 31 and not trendy but hopefully stylish!)

Edited to add - good luck with your interview!!

Greentrilby · 09/01/2025 20:03

I’ve got a pair from M&S that look like this and my colleague asked if they were Gucci as they do a very similar style.

I’ve worn mine lots of times and they are so comfy.

shardlakem · 09/01/2025 20:04

You 100% want a chunkier loafer! But that will look great with trousers, midi skirts etc

I own a design business and you'd be absolutely fine coming to an interview in smart trainers, depending on what the rest of your outfit looked like. They can look really sharp. So I have questions: what exactly is the kind of business you are interviewing for, and what role within it, and what are you planning to wear with the shoes?

fufulina · 09/01/2025 20:54

PhaedraStar · 09/01/2025 19:33

Do not wear trainers to an interview.

Is it in London? I work in the creative industry and trainers are absolutely fine. Shoes - rarely seen any more on women and heels went extinct about 10 years ago.
