Cosmetic ‘tweakments’

If you have Botox or fillers , do you tell people?

I have had Botox a couple of times and am considering a little bit of cheek filler. I don’t think I can tell anyone. Don’t know why. I’m not embarrassed really but it just seems a bit indulgent? I haven’t even told DH! Not that he’d mind.

So do you tell people or not?

Watching with interest as I'm hoping to get a couple of things done later this year (lips and '11').

At the moment I feel like it's not something I'd shout from the rooftops but if someone asked me outright I wouldn't lie about it.

I say this as someone who had every intention of growing older au naturel until I had a shitshow of a few years and then hit perimenopause!

Talesfromtheriverbank · 07/01/2025 11:17

Yes that was my attitude until everything went south!

I've just turned 40 and decided I'm going to do a few tweekments , nothing much , I haven't had anything as yet , but feel like I now need a freshen up , on my list is Botox around my eyes , forehead and jaw line , lip flip and a very tiny amount of cheekbone filler.

You don't need to tell people as tweakments are always obvious. There are loads of threads on this already and it causes a lot of friction. You do what you want but they honestly do not enhance people's looks. Total waste of money....just my opinion as an anonymous stranger! All the best

I agree, always obvious to people who are observant though, not sure my DH would notice if I had anything done! Obvious in the same way if someone has makeup on, in my opinion.

CharlotteCChapel · 07/01/2025 11:59

They aren't twrakments they're facial modifications. Fillers are falling out of favour and questions are starting to be asked about botox too.

It's a lot cheaper and you'll be much happier if you accept they're part of aging and refuse to be lied to by the cosmetics industry who just want your money.

TinselTuesday · 07/01/2025 12:04

My friend has had it done after comparing herself to her old school friends. It 'normalised' it for her.
I have n't asked, I mutter something about always looking well after a holiday.
I won't ask because she now looks weird when we laugh and I don't want to fall out.
When she bangs on about micro plastics in the environment and sustainable business practices, it revolts me and I've quietly lost a lot respect.

They're really not. You only notice the procedures that have been done badly.

Of course it's noticeable in a friend. I would agree well-done Botox isn't always obvious, but you do suddenly realise your friend's forehead isn't moving, or their face when they smile isn't quite the same.

(I'm 43 so a lot of my friends are starting to get work done.)

Pootles34 · 07/01/2025 12:30

Interested in how you know they're always obvious - because you wouldn't know if you don't know, if you see what I mean!? I'm intrigued by it all - I probably won't because I can't afford it, but I have seen some photos of work that are clearly very good.

Summerhillsquare · 07/01/2025 12:47

If it comes up in conversation.

Otherwise, nobody has noticed, people occasionally say I look well, that was my aim so happy with my decisions.

orangewasp · 07/01/2025 13:19

I'm pretty sure I don't notice, other than lips. I don't have anything done myself as think I've tipped over the point of no return and would rather spend money on other things.

Icantbelieveitsnotnutter · 07/01/2025 13:28

It's not for me, as said above but certainly there are fabulous products, make up, gadgets now that I just think are the way forward, should you feel like they're your thing. Those electrode kits are interesting, albeit temporary!

Biroclicker · 07/01/2025 13:30

It's noticeable when people start to explain their emotions rather than just having them "har har har that is funny" "oh I am so sad" "I am angry about that" "isn't that adorable". All phrases required of people who can't move their faces properly anymore.

I got new glasses a few days after Christmas, it took DH about a week to notice! 🤣

Gowlett · 07/01/2025 13:35

I always notice it with couples…

She’s looking “fresh” for her age.

He looks like a random old guy.

AsFunAsEnglishWeather · 07/01/2025 13:59

I have them and told nobody - it's my business what I do to look a bit better. If botox is done well then you should still have some movement - the frozen forehead is very old fashioned. Ditto fillers - slightly plumped 'hydrated' lips, not harsh duck lips are now in. I did have some bruising from cheek fillers once (the amount I have is subtle, not the over-filled cheeks that look puffy or like slabs), but as I ride horses I have a ready excuse...

TheGodOfSmallPotatoes · 07/01/2025 15:26

I have lip filler and she did such a good job. No one has noticed! And I work with a pretty harsh bunch, I had a few ‘oh you look really rested’ comments 😂

I haven’t told anyone except my husband, parents and teen. I think I look fab 😂

MsMoody · 07/01/2025 16:45

Just had filler today, over the moon with it, haven’t seen anyone I know yet and desperate to find out if it’s obvious 😂 I think I will tell my close friends though!

Couldn’t have been enough to make a difference then, so was it worth it?

I get Botox twice a year and had fillers once under my eyes. I tell no one at all and no one’s asked me as it’s not noticeable I’d never get lips done or put fillers anywhere else (not a fan of that look). I just feel it’s no one business, however if I got asked outright I would say so.

TheIcyGoldMember · 07/01/2025 17:02

Scores of people will be along now to tell you that you can always tell so you will never be in this position but I’ve been having botox for around five years and nobody knows. Your face, your business I say.

satinbear · 07/01/2025 17:04

I haven't had anything done yet. I'm 47 and have been quite lucky and was good with prevention no smoking, drinking and always used SPF and started tretinoin in my early 20's and have used it ever since. However I do feel like my lower eye area could do with something and am starting to look into skin boosters and so forth for that area. Still unsure. I am not yet needing botox and filler seems to be very problematic especially around the eye area so will probably avoid that.

As for if I will tell people? Probably not actually. Not because I want to pretend I am au natural but more that I'm a bit embarrassed to admit I'd spend so much money on these things. I do at home dermal needling, I have a spendy LED mask, and a Myolift mini, all of which I do think help my skin look nice and I do enjoy skincare but I'd be a bit embarrassed to admit that I spent £150 in the NIOD sale for example or £100 on a GF serum. To be honest I think the prevention side of things does most of the heavy lifting, that and HRT.

So if I did do anything with my eyes like a skin booster or PRP it would probably be my little secret.
