Where is the best place to buy a bra the correct size.... am totally confused now, 36A or 32DD?

mrspink27 · 03/05/2008 19:38

Have lost a bit of weight recently, and I know I am wearing completely the wrong bra size.... went to M and S, primarily to wear a sports bra and the fitter there decided I was a 36A, walked out with a sports bra which, when I got home and tried on flet very uncomfortable. SO trolleyed off to Debenhams and the lady there decided I was a 32D which was a bit of a have also now got a sports bra and another bra which on arrival home am not convinced by. Feel like the bra is wearing me rather than fitting nicely and giving me a nicer and more uplifting shape. I feel like I have really lost tone, from bf 2 dds and losing weight and all I have left are a couple of saggy pitta bread boobs....

So.... where can I go to get a reliable fitting? I could go to brighton, crawley, tunbridge wells, croydon (at a push) london or bluewater? Is rigby and peller worth it?

HELP!!!!

Rigby and peller

put on a bra you currently like.
does the back strap sit horizontally? ie, is it flat? if so, then it is probly the right back. there is a huge huge difference between a 36 and a 32. should be very simple to tell.
now, look at the straps. do they dig in? are your breasts lifted up properly? or are the sagging towards the floor? in a properly fitte bra, they should point straight out. not down. again, a huge difference between an a cu p and a d cup. am very surprised at fitters

A 32D is the same 'cup' as a 36B - so not all that different iyswim! Anyway, back to the point, I personally have found M&S useless for bras. I was measured there whilst pregnant and they measured me up for my maternity bras to be a 30G, but then told me that didn't do G cups in that back size, so did I want a 32F instead? . I mean with huge boobs, you can't afford to have the wrong size bra! Anyway, I went to Bravissimo instead (and it turns out they got the wrong size anyway!) Personally, I have always found general department stores not very good when it comes to measuring - so now I always go to a specialist bra shop. Its the safest bet I reckon.

another bravissimo fan here.

hi. i have found leia an amazing shop..the staff are absolutly fab! patient, willing to serve, know their stock well, and just realllllllllly helpful in general.
honestly, coming from a woman who finds it incredibly difficult to buy a good fitting bra.......

stock is gorge, and reasonably priced too (for the stock iykwim?)

take a lookie see!

here...

honestly, my norkage has sagged somewhat, but my well fitting bra makes them look pert and lovely!!

wobbegong · 03/05/2008 21:08

Rigby and Peller is a bit of a swiz IMHO
Bravissimo is much better if you think you are D or above. Go to the Oxford Circus one if you can, with an appt already booked. Otherwise yes John Lewis is good.
M&S will talk total rubbish, don't trust their fitters!

mrspink27 · 03/05/2008 22:32

Stitch - the problem is I have bras which are a 38C, 38B and a few other assorted sizes... all well past their best and none fitting particularly well... I think I may go to Bluewater and try Leia as I really dont think I am a D cup... so Bravissimo out...atleast there is also John Lewis there as well.... I seem to remember R and P years ago making me spend a huge amount of money! so maybe need to stay away from them!

I'm a bravissimo fan, but standard in Notts branch seems to have slipped a little recently. Never rated M&S since they told me my boobs were deformed and I'd never get a bra that fitted me properly. I left the store in tears.

Went to Bravissimo and was delighted, pert well supported bras - can even manage to run (and I'm a 36H)!!

mrspink27 · 03/05/2008 22:42

I hadnt realised how bad the bra I was wearing today was until I took it off for the fitting! I just grabbed it out of the drawer this morning and dumped it into my gym bag for after my shower... It was only when I took it off that I realised how stretched, grey and worse still had a huge hole in it! I was very

Doh, its late..well supported boobs.

mrspink27 · 03/05/2008 22:47

Funny that calsworld... lady in M and s told me that one boob was a very different shape to the other and I would struggle to get any bra to fit both boobs correctly! Lady in Debenhams didnt mention it but did say one had sagged more. ( OH - how to make someone feel really great about themselves!)

Bravissimo in Brighton are great

maidamess · 04/05/2008 10:06

I do not rate M&s fitters at all.

lizziemun · 04/05/2008 10:15

I found this the other day when i was looking for new bras.

bra calc.

You put in your measurments and tells you what size you need.

HTH

MrsTittleMouse · 04/05/2008 10:21

M&S were useless for me when I was pregnant - the bra that they gave me wasn't supportive at all and just didn't feel right. I'm sure that I was given it just because they don't do the size that I really needed.
Completely at the "deformed" comment calsworld.

John Lewis has always been great for me, but not the Oxford St one (if you're a Londoner...it gets too busy and the staff are too young and inexperienced!).

M&S measured me a 34C. ZsaZsa Gabor-esque John Lewis fitter bra fitter hooted at that. 'You're a 36D, dahhhhhlink. Don't worry. I am always mopping up M&S mistakes!'.

piratecat · 04/05/2008 10:24

sorry but those bra calculators are not tailored to be that precise.
Iuse to work for Rip off and peller!!

Ihave just put my measurement sin and it say I am a 36 b, but I'm a 34E.

yes my boob could fit (just into( the cup part of that size, but the back would be huge, and would ride up.

The best way to start is measure under your bust, thats your back size, the number part of your bra measurement, then start with that and get a load of bras in that back measurement and different cup sizes.

ehat do you measure under bust?

piratecat · 04/05/2008 10:28

oh and btw, I always find Fantasie bras are the mutt's, since I can nolonger afford the more expensive ones. Fantasie make supportive bras, with good wide straps, which are essential for d plus cups, whatever your back size is.

When you buy a bra, check the straps are not flimsy.

Check thwere is not too much give around the band.

steer clear of bands that have any lacey springy elastic material on them (they just keep stretching)

Try a balconette/ 3/4 cup for great shape.

piratecat · 04/05/2008 10:29

sometimes you will try a white bra and a black bra on of the same design and the black may feel tighter.

this is becuase of the dyeing process.

PenelopePitstops · 04/05/2008 12:25

calsworld i had that experience too in m&s, they were awful

told me one boob was noticably smaller than the other and i would never get bras to fit me properly. My friend went to get measured at 14 with huge norks, and the assistant started talking to her mother about how awful big boobs were etc etc, just what she wanted to hear!

meglet · 04/05/2008 13:27

Rigby and Pellar is great. Take your credit card.

M&S, John Lewis and Debenhams were rubbish.
