What to wear at Disneyworld?

As the title suggests, I have 10 days at WDW in April. I’ve lost a lot of weight and have no summer clothes! My wardrobe right now consists of smart dresses and blazers for work, gym gear and jeans with a fine knit jumper for the weekend. What should I wear in Disney? Will I get chafing???

I think I’ll be a size 8 or thereabouts by then, and I’m short. Not particularly interested in dressing in Disney stuff, just comfortable- assume denim shorts are t a good idea on water rides???

Everyone looks dreadful there so whatever you wear you’ll look fine

catatonique · 02/01/2025 13:46

Also on these threads, everyone bangs on about how far you walk, but it’s no further than a day shopping in a city.
Unless you’re really unfit, you’ll be fine

HermioneWeasley · 02/01/2025 13:47

April is likely to be warm/hot but we’ve been end of March/early April before where there were some cooler days and I was wearing a cardigan all day.

it’s very casual, nobody cares what you wear. Go for comfort!

theeyeofdoe · 02/01/2025 13:47

shorts and t-shirts are best. April is usually fairly hot, so vest tops are good too. Denim shorts are okay for the Disney parks, but avoid them on the two water rides at Islands of Adventure as you get saturated!

MrsSkylerWhite · 02/01/2025 13:48

Whatever you decide, take a change of clothes with you or you’ll be schlepping back to the hotel to get changed when you’re wet.

Id say leggings and t shirts for ease.

Floralnomad · 02/01/2025 13:49

Shorts and T shirts / strappy tops

honeyandbutterontoast · 02/01/2025 13:52

Denim shorts will be fine unless on water rides. Dresses/skirts are a bit tricky to clamber on and off rides. Weather may not be that warm in April, gym leggings might work on cooler days maybe?
Comfortable shoes are essential, start breaking them in now 😂, the humidity and walking can add up to some shocking blisters. I used to take a spare pair of trainer socks and change them halfway through the day.
Youll need a light jumper in the early morning and in restaurants with fierce air con.
oh and a decent bra if you are amply endowed, helps to keep them from jiggling all over on the roller coasters!!

Hudson33 · 02/01/2025 13:52

The comment saying everyone looks awful is hilarious :D we went for the first time last year, i wore strappy summer dresses for the most part, and denim shorts and t shirts. I made an error on day 1 and wore the wrong shoes... Crocs are the only way for me now 😁some may refer to them as monstrosities however when your feet are burning in pain you wont care. socks and crocs for the win.

EVHead · 02/01/2025 13:53

Shorts and a t shirt plus VERY comfy trainers.

Twilightstarbright · 02/01/2025 13:59

Thank you! I like to look nice regardless of other people, especially as I’ve worked hard to lose 4 stone.

I walk a lot naturally- school run/commute/take the stairs as part of my weight loss/be more active mission.

Really comfy trainers, shorts ( nothing that can chafe 😂) and a T-shirt would be my go to. We went in August though and I was certain I was physically melting.

wonderstuff · 02/01/2025 14:06

I find cotton trousers, like harem style the comfiest in Florida. If I’m wearing strappy tops I take a scarf as well as mid day sun is too much for my shoulders even with sun cream. I also pack a light cardigan as I find the aircon inside is often too cool for me.

In April the weather should be fantastic, might be a little chilly in the morning. Have a fantastic time.

BusyPoster · 02/01/2025 14:07

I wore lose comfortable shorts and mix and matched them with different T shirts/tops from Next and super comfortable sandals. I also wore cotton trousers and had a pac a mac type of jacket.
Start with sorting out your footwear, this really is the most important thing. Also how much sun do you want to get on your body, I always cover my shoulders and as much of the back of my neck as I can?

EmmaStone · 02/01/2025 14:27

We went March/April 2024, Ts/vests and shorts every day - it looks like we had one cooler day where I took a sweatshirt for the evening, but generally hot. Denim shorts fine, you don't tend to get too wet at Disney.

parkingproblemos · 02/01/2025 18:12

There are millions of you tube pack with me for Disney videos on you tube.

There are some proper adult fans who get into "Disney bounding"

I have never been to WDW and DH has vetoed it so I will never go! But I still watch these pack with me videos! I like Brogan Tate and Brummy Mummy.

If I was going I'd wear light shorts and Disney shirts and tevas because I'm obsessed with them

Have amazing time I'm so jealous ( I am going to California though so can't complain and we are going to universal!)

Cottonheadedninhymuggins · 02/01/2025 19:09

Shirts and t shirts will work fine OP and don’t worry about wanting to look nice. Despite what others say, it is nice to feel you look good and have made an effort, even just for some photos. The only time we felt cold in Florida was when we were out for dinner one night. The AC was arctic. 🥶. You’ll may be want a cardigan or light jumper in the evening. Have a wonderful time.

crackinghead · 02/01/2025 19:14

We went April time.

It's v v casual, tshirt and shorts or a loose short dress with hot pants underneath. We also had a few cooler days, trousers and a hoodie were needed. The rest of the time is was early to mid thirties.

I walk a lot and fit but by god my feet were killing some days. Over 20k steps in heat. I switched between trainers and slides, was jealous of my sister's crocs.

wriggleigglepiggle · 02/01/2025 19:15

Loose summer dresses and trainers, we were there in August, you walk miles and it's hot.

LittleRedRidingHoody · 02/01/2025 19:22

We've just been! Admittedly probs a bit colder now than it will be in April though.

Lots of t-shirts, leggings, hoodies. I'd imagine cycle short kind of shorts (the ones that are basically very short leggings) with oversized tees as well when it's a bit warmer. No one looks fashionable - you either have people embracing comfort, or the odd person trying to look 'trendy' or 'timeless' and always looks stressed and sweaty!

Absolutely agree on comfy footwear. I live in my ASICS for long distances but spent 1 day in Birkenstocks and got blisters everywhere. Obviously depends on your kind of adventures but I easily clocked 30k+ steps on several days (and that was with a 5yo!)

TianasBayou · 02/01/2025 20:06

We were there in August and it was scorching!

A hat is essential. Take it off for rides in case it flies off.

I resorted to socks with sandals some days, as even my most comfortable sandals, plastered with moleskin, rubbed in the heat.

Otherwise, mesh trainers and thin socks.

If you're a candidate for chub rub, make sure your shorts don't ride up when you walk!

Only take a small bag if you can. I used one of the Uniqlo sling bags that hold loads. Just take essentials - small sunscreen, lip balm, phone, lead for charging phone, sunglasses, small refillable bottle (ask for ice water at any quick service), plasters, wet wipes.

wriggleigglepiggle · 02/01/2025 20:08

You'll see lots of families in matching Disney t shirts or 'thing 1,2,3' etc at universal

TianasBayou · 02/01/2025 20:08

Also consider underwear choices, quick drying or wicking fabrics.

womanjustwanttohavefun · 02/01/2025 20:10

Cycle or longer shorts because of chafing

Looser tops

We walked about 9miles a day

Floaty dresses are fine but I also has chafe shorts underneath.

Good shoes and socks are more important

TianasBayou · 02/01/2025 20:11

No need to take anything remotely formal by the way (unless doing really fancy fine dining). Everywhere is casual.

wriggleigglepiggle · 02/01/2025 20:12

Does your accommodation have laundry facilities?
