Acne on chin

Hiseyesareorangehistongueisblack · 19/12/2024 11:09

I’m late thirties and have always ALWAYS had deep nasty spots on my chin. I suspect hormones - my skin everywhere else is pretty clear. It’s sensitive to some products (the only stuff makes my face burn now and acnecide while it did work, brings me instantly out in hot itchy skin which I can’t put any thing on)

Im dairy intolerant and while I’ve cut it out almost 100% I’ve seen no improvement in my skin.

I keep seeing things like dermatica etc on my socials - worth it? Can any one recommend any thing?

I’ve booked an appt with the GP for the new year as it’s really affecting my confidence. Any one got any advice?

Same. I was about to say could you cut out dairy but then read you already do that. Do you use tretonoin? I find it helps with acne. Also not sure if you take any hormonal contraceptive but my skin also hates that.

littleteapot86 · 19/12/2024 11:12

Sorry just realised dermatica is Tretinoin (I get mine from skin and me). I find it helps.

Saurus72 · 19/12/2024 11:36

La Roche Posay Effaclar face wash and lotion has been nothing short of miraculous for me, it works consistently and completely when nothing else has. I also have hormonal issues and I saw a difference within a couple of weeks.

Teamladybirdladybird · 19/12/2024 11:57

I am the same and the only thing that works is a course of antibiotics - lymecycline in my case. One tablet a day and my skin is clear within 2 weeks although you need to take the whole 2 month course. This can keep my skin clear then for the next 12 months or so. In my case the GP told me it's being prone to a certain bacteria in my skin which reacts badly to hormone change during my cycle.

loropianalover · 19/12/2024 11:59

Following with interest - I am late 20s and have the same. I find it so embarrassing. It never really goes away but definitely flares when I’m on my period. Been considering going on birth control pill but very hesitant.

What antibiotic is it? IGNORE / edit - just read you said what it was! I feel I will have to directly ask my dinosaur GP for some thing specific.

Do get checked with a good derm first. You can also follow a decent skincare routine for acne like me.
So here goes my routine which you may try:
Morning:
Using water to wash your face,
Sebamed clear face gel,
Garnier spf
Evening:
Micellar water
La roche posay moisturizer,
Tretinoin (0.1) from skinorac
Sebamed clear facial gel

I take Lymecycline, been on it long term and with tret, my skin is so much better

GiftWrappedSuburbanDreams · 19/12/2024 13:16

Skin+me helped me massively with acne flare ups. My skin is so much clearer now. Might be worth looking into?

LivingDeadGirlUK · 19/12/2024 13:24

I've been doing skin + me for 6 months now, its really helped my skin but I still get stubborn spots on my chin. Its not as bad as it was though.

I've been trying some little salicylic acid pimple patches, they stop me picking as well as treating the spot and have helped spots go quicker with no scaring.

Pooky001 · 19/12/2024 13:59

I’m late 40s and started struggling with oily skin and a spotty chin since having the Mirena coil fitted. My GP prescribed Skinoren cream (azaelic acid) and it’s really helped and my skin is much clearer.

Isabelle70 · 19/12/2024 21:03

I had been treated for nearly 30 years for acne with all sorts of medications from the Dr. I signed up for Dermatica the anti-aging and they responded that I had rosacea. I have been on the treatment for nearly 3 years and no more constant cystic spots on the chin, no more swelling. My skin is smooth and clear. I use it every other night now as a maintenance routine, I do not want to go back to how my skin was. My Dd asked if I was using a filter the other day on FaceTime as my skin was so clear and glowing. I haven't a clue how to use a filter is there is one!
I would certainly give Dermatica a try, for the acne or rosacea treatment. They do also prescribe oral antibiotics if you want to try them.

Emilyjayne9421 · 19/12/2024 21:05

Skin and me the daily doser helped mine massively it’s actually changed my life (at the risk of sounding dramatic!)

Nutcracks · 19/12/2024 21:22

This is random, but I remember someone on here suggesting a while back, that if you let toothpaste get on your chin it causes spots in some people.

Missrainbows · 19/12/2024 21:36

I was the same, always had at least a couple of spots on my chin and sometimes more. I'm mid 30s now. Having a baby helped, but after about a year it started to return again. Antibiotics helped but whenever I stopped them acne returned quickly.

I tried dermatica as a 'last resort' - I was worried it was expensive but tbh was probably spending similar on various skincare across the year. It has honestly completely solved my acne! I can't believe the impact it has had. I haven't had a single spot for months after 15 odd years. I never thought I would be in this position, definitely give it a go if you can afford it.

BlackCat25 · 19/12/2024 22:41

My eldest daughter (late twenties) has suffered on and off with acne for years. She tried everything and then went onto Skin and Me for a while with good results and her skin calmed a lot. Now she’s moved to Monderma (just for a change and to see the difference if any) and so far has been impressed after 4 months (on a medium strength dose of tretinoin and niacinamide apparently). Her skin has never looked clearer (I tell her whenever she visits me!) and it seems as though personalised treatment works so much more effectively than courses of antibiotics from a GP, or even expensive high end products, both of
which she has tried for years. Worth a try!

pinkhimalayan · 19/12/2024 22:55

I'm 38 and use Monderma too, and have friends who use Dermatica and Skin and Me. I don't have a great deal of acne so can't really comment, but it has worked wonders for my crows feet, smile lines and sun spots. From my understanding 0.025% tretinoin will clear 90% of your acne, although you will still get the odd few spots. The only thing that will cure it is oral roaccutane but steer clear of that if you can. Tretinoin is a powerful skincare ingredient. Apply moisturiser before and after for a few days or weeks to help your skin adjust... it's highly effective and should do the job.

Oblomov24 · 19/12/2024 23:32

Interesting ds2 has spots only on chin.

TheOGCCL · 19/12/2024 23:55

Spots on the chin are usually hormonal. I managed mine first via the pill and now via HRT. But I also have a Dermatica prescription and wish these treatments had been available twenty years ago as they are very effective. I’m not entirely spot free but my skin looks great overall. Better than in my twenties and thirties by far.

Which pill are you talking about?

Chipsahoy · 20/12/2024 12:16

Breastfeeding or hormonal contraception only things that ever helped me. Unfortunately youngest child is too old for that. So back on hormonal contraception for HRT and hoping it will clear my skin too.

GettingStuffed · 20/12/2024 15:44

I had foliculitis on my face, it mainly affect my chin and jawline. Antibiotics killed it

fivebyfivebuffy · 20/12/2024 15:51

Hi all, this is interesting. Dd 15 has acne which can be pretty bad. Is skin+ me worth a try with her?

TheOGCCL · 20/12/2024 21:05

@UmberMoose The contraceptive pill.
