Help me find a Christmas Day dress, I'm in a fashion slump

Hi, I've beeb going through a really tough time and I would like to find a really lovely dress to wear on Christmas Day. I've been living in the same old jeans and jumpers as been too clinically depressed for following fashion for ages, but I would love to feel special for a day with the extended family and my partner who has been a bit of a rock lately. Budget up to 150. I like dark jewel tones and nothing above midi length but completely open as to styles and brands, I haven't been in a clothes shop in ages. I'm 36, a size 8-10 and 5'3", pale skin and mid length light red-brown hair and blue eyes. Curvy bum/hips but small boobs and waist. Any suggestions would be amazing... thanks MN!

The Nobody's Child navy starlight midi is lovely.

And…. It has pockets!! Always a winner 😍

All the @ at the poster whose dress suggestions people aren't keen on, is getting a bit mean. We don't all like the same things and it's nice of someone to take the time to suggest something even if it doesn't exactly meet the brief.

Not many people would recommend so much exposed flesh for Christmas Day with family. The suggestions were either entirely ridiculous or a piss take.

I’d intended to be a bit funny, rather than mean, with the assumption that the poster knew the suggestions were bonkers. Silly me.

I think I’d be looking for a shortish jumper dress that I could get lots of wear out beyond Christmas Day, rather than a full on party dress or lots of exposed flesh. Then again, my flesh isn’t fit to be exposed beyond my bath or my bedroom.

You are trolling with this one too surely. Bit mean when the OP has asked for help in good faith! Or maybe you work for The Outnet and need to clear this slow moving stock somehow.

I quite like a vintage style, draping and flutter sleeves etc, but yes some midi stuff swamps me as does heavy fabric so it can be tough finding the right things. I usually like Zara, & Other Stories, I have seen some nice styles on Silk Fred, but I have no idea what styles are in/around now and dont want to look frumpy. I like those Joannie dresses and I do quite like the m&s midaxi slip dress but I worry I would look like I was wearing a nightie as I am quite short. I also was thinking I dont have any heels/dont want to wear them around home so the dress would need to work with flats or bare feet.

You must all look really glam on Xmas day
I'm usually in jeans and a Christmas jumper 😂

so the dress would need to work with flats or bare feet.

Pretty much any dress then.

uhohjojo · 19/12/2024 07:59

I'm about your height OP and find too many brands' midi lengths are at my ankles. Is that a problem for you OP? I noticed you said you're 5ft 3. I've been looking for a similar dress but tend to do midi /maxi length in petite, which narrows the choice annoyingly. Maybe people just ignore the length thing these days?

I have been looking on Roman for dresses and there are some lovely ones on there, all different styles for different ages. I am spoilt for choice

TanyaLoves · 19/12/2024 09:58

Rixo is great!

Love this! Gutted it’s out of stock in my size

M&S and John Lewis have it. Some sizes left in M&S.

What do you guys do on Xmas day??? I sit on the floor with kids and dog and build train sets / make slime and eat chocolate.... Definitely not suitable for any of these dresses!

My son is the youngest in the family and is 12 so no more sitting on the floor for me and DH is cooking this year so I'm making the most of being able to glam up a bit. When DS was younger it was jeans and a nice top so I could crawl on the floor.

It’s even prettier in the flesh.
