Christmas drinks outfit ideas?

Meeting up with some of my DP’s family for Christmas drinks in Windsor. I’ve never been to Windsor and I’m imagining it to be generally a bit classier than my local country pub where I can turn up plastered in mud and no one bats an eyelid. No idea where exactly we’ll be going, various bars I’d imagine.

I haven’t been out for years unless it’s something super dressy like a wedding, so I don’t have anything suitable for this occasion. I’m thinking classy but not too over the top.

Please hit me with outfit ideas, I have no idea what people wear going out these days. I’m 43, size 10, 5’8”, not blessed in the boob department, decent legs. I don’t have time to go shopping anywhere before the day so looking to order something online. Also need footwear!

Please and thank you.

I'd wear the mint velvet jeans you linked to with a black silk/satin shirt and a velvet blazer.
You can dress it up or down with your footwear and accessories.

I'm a fair bit shorter than you and prefer skirts so I'd wear the above with a sequin mini, black opaque tights and velvet DMs.

I sort of resent my randomly picked dress being held up as an example of "fade into the background"!
It depends how you wear something, as with any nod to being "dressed up".

I've had lots of wear out of this skirt, but I know it's not to everyones taste (its more subtle than it appears in the photo). I wear it with an oversized cashmere polo neck and flat boots https://www.hush-uk.com/raven-pleated-maxi-skirt-liquid-metallic/010124-4455.html

I also have this that I wear with a cropped jumper and flat boots.

when the weather is milder I wear both with ballet flats and t-shirts.

There's some right patronising twats on this thread.

🤣 was just thinking the exact same thing reading the thread.

There's some really nice velvet dresses and trousers around at the moment which would be great for Xmas drinks.

Oh, Windsor, huh? Yeah, it’s definitely a bit more “classy” than your local pub, but don’t stress, looking chic doesn’t have to be complicated. Maybe go for a pair of well-fitted pants and a simple but stylish top, like silk or velvet—elegant but not over the top. For shoes, maybe some classy low-heeled boots or shoes, comfy but still polished. And about the chest thing, honestly, don’t worry about it! A lot of styles work well for all body types these days. You’ll definitely find something that works!

I was thinking a satin bias cut midi skirt, heeled boots (I have a previous years version of these and they're really comfy) and a little jumper (with some sparkle in it maybe).

Someone on another thread also posted a beautiful sezane black and gold velvet blouse but I just checked and it's sold out.

This jumpsuit is lovely (although I would probably not go with the red boots!).

This velvet dress is very pretty and would go well with not too much boob and good legs.

The dress you showed is ok op. I’d team it with a velvet jacket, black tights and knee high boots.

FloreatEtona · 10/12/2024 20:48

Windsor isn't all that dressy. Wear something you feel comfortable in as long as it's not covered in mud. Jeans and a nice top and boots would be fine.

Glitzy so either gold or silver boots or shoes or those boots linked (M&S) are always a good festive season standby (or diamanté buckle ones). You can wear them other times too.

I do find those sparkly M&S boots so handy - any old basic outfit and chuck them on and you look like you've made a bit of an effort.

I just realised I forgot to link the last velvet dress I mentioned. I'd wear something like that on Christmas day as well, accessorised with slippers 😂.

That dress is very pretty!

I’ve got a sort of glittery midi pleated dress (Next) and a blue tinsel Autograph jumper along with other sequinned bits so have got options.

angela1952 · 15/12/2024 08:48

I used to have a lovely black cashmere tunic with a slightly scooped neck which I wore with a scarf and/or a fancy brooch. Sadly the moths have removed it from my wardrobe and I don't know what to wear this year either. I do still have the lovely diamond brooch/pendant though so I'm planning to find something to work with this.

Thank you all again for the advice. I was flat out busy at work and just didn’t have the brain space to deal with choosing something, so thought fuck it I’ll just wear the dress I have, who will care. But then got struck down with the mother of all viruses (flu I think) and so my weekend away never happened, been in bed since Friday with a raging temperature and horrible chest, so it’s just as well I didn’t go spending loads of money on new clothes!
