Cleaning makeup brushes?

How is everyone cleaning their makeup brushes these days? I’ve been using shampoo but it takes a while to get the product out. Is there a better method?

Cinema Secrets liquid is ace but was OOS last time I looked, used to be on Beauty Bay but they no longer do it and Amazon were sold out. I got some ISO clean and found that to be good.

Dunk in micellar water in an egg cup, wipe off on a face cloth.

CrispyCrumpets · 30/11/2024 19:13

I just use whatever shampoo or liquid soap is to hand.

erinaceus · 30/11/2024 19:14

I use a tiny dot of fairy liquid in warm water, rinse well and leave to dry in a pot or mug bristles side up.

ToBeOrNotToBee · 30/11/2024 19:14

A nice mix of fairy and warmish water is a wine glass with the bristles soaking for about 20 minutes before rinsing.
Works a charm.

Those using soap or fairly liquid - do you find it gets all the foundation out?

I've always used Fairy and think it does the job perfectly well. No issue with foundaton etc left behind - and my brushes have white bristles so I'd see if there was, I think.

Hand soap and swoosh around in the palm of my hand a few times till water runs clear

Doggymummar · 30/11/2024 20:14

Mine go in the dishwasher 😔

Purplecatshopaholic · 30/11/2024 20:20

Boots no7 do a make up brush cleaner that is amazing. I just never felt soap, shampoo, etc ever gets brushes really clean, and this stuff really does.

goingtotown · 30/11/2024 20:51

Liquid Ariel or similar removes all traces of make up, rinse well.

Appalonia · 30/11/2024 20:54

I would soak them in baby oil first, then use washing up liquid.

Mercurial123 · 30/11/2024 20:54

Shampoo and one of those silicone makeup remover mats.

Yogachick · 01/12/2024 12:57

I used shampoo with one of those silicone thingies for ages but got some Real Techniques make up brush cleaner. Game changer! Does a far better job in less than half the time using far less product. Highly recommend ,can buy in Superdrug I think

Fleur405 · 01/12/2024 14:40

I also soak them in micelar water and that seems to do the trick

Digisquidgy · 01/12/2024 14:54

Mine go in the washing machine.

Same here. There’s no need for anything else.

Mine go in the washing machine.

That's such a bad idea.

I’m 53. Hasn’t failed me yet. They go in a small laundry bag on a 30 degree wash. Mix of brushes from Primark to Bobbi Brown.

Scrimt · 01/12/2024 17:43

I spray mine with rubbing alcohol and wipe until clean. So much quicker than using soap and water. Dries instantly.

suki1964 · 01/12/2024 17:49

Daily, after use I wipe with a make up cleansing wipe ( I use a baked foundation so dont want oils transferring )

When I wash them, its shampoo or bar soap, left to dry flat on a towel near the stove

Balloonhearts · 01/12/2024 17:50

I have an automatic bowl cleaner thing. It's amazing, even dries them.

Terrible way to do it. The bristles are held in the ferrule with glue. You aren't even supposed to soak them beyond half way up the bristles let alone throw them in a wash cycle.

If you've not had problems then you are lucky.

Added to which doesn't the painted surface of the handle flake off?

Nope.
