Love it!

AnneKipankitoo · 30/11/2024 19:28

That is gorgeous . It looks fabulous on.

Thanks all! & don’t worry wasn’t offended at all @noodlescanoodles I wanted to hear all the views! It is an old family ring (over 100 years old) and I have always loved it as It’s very my colour.

l might have it modernised a bit and was wondering whether it’s engagementy enough? I’m really glad most you guys love it too though.

I think it an aquamarine and diamonds @Moier - real stones @DazedAndConfused321 but probably very old fashioned style!

I specifically chose a vintage ring for my engagement ring because I didn't like any of the modern ones I saw but I liked a lot of the vintage ones.

RosesAndHellebores · 30/11/2024 19:31

Classic and pretty. I wouldn’t change a thing about it.

Get some strident, dissolve a tablet in half a wine glass and drop in the ring for about 90 mins. It will clean up beautifully with a very soft toothbrush. It will double the sparkle!

MorrisZapp · 30/11/2024 19:33

It's absolutely stunning but I can't imagine wearing a bobby dazzler like that every day! Looks like a super special occasion piece to me but I've never owned fine jewellery so it's not my area of expertise.

Dumbles · 30/11/2024 19:37

Thank you everyone! I purposely took the first pic not on my hand as I was interested to see if people would think engagement or a general ring. Also slightly less identifying haha. I definitely appreciate the cleaning tips as I’m sure it needs a very good clean.

Any ring can be engagmenty enough. My current wedding ring is a flat 20 pound ring and i love it

IHaveNeverLivedintheCastle · 30/11/2024 18:52

Why ? I've never worn an engagement or a wedding ring. I've got quite a few rings of various ages and histories that I swap around and wear on my ring finger.

Well YMMV - you are obviously not worried that your rings look too engagementy, but the OP is..

DoYouReally · 30/11/2024 19:19

For reasons I can't explain, it looks ok in the first picture but so much nicer and really lovely on your hand.

Was going to post exactly this!

It looks lovely on your hand

Whomarriedwho · 30/11/2024 20:14

Dumbles · 30/11/2024 18:06

Here’s a pic of it on!

I would wonder how a wedding ring would sit alongside it without it looking clunky. It’s a lovely ring though.

Purplecatshopaholic · 30/11/2024 20:16

Love it. Would totally wear that, although I’d want it in platinum/white gold as I don’t suit yellow gold.

Amiable · 30/11/2024 20:21

Beautiful. I absolutely love it as it is.

My rings don't look engagementy to me. I don't know what other people think if they notice.

I don't the OP's ring looks like a ring marketed as an "engagement ring". It's a nice ring.

Daschund · 30/11/2024 20:31

I married in the early 90s. My wedding and engagement rings are 18ct yellow gold. DD 18 was only saying the other day that silver/white gold/platinum are going out of fashion after I said she'd probably change the bands when she inherits them one day.

loobylou10 · 30/11/2024 21:20

It's absolutely beautiful but I'm biased as my engagement ring is aquamarine! And gold isn't 'dated' by the way, how silly, yellow gold is making a comeback.

Mairzydotes · 30/11/2024 21:25

It's beautiful, it's very vintage and it's not contemporary at all, which some pp consider to be dated.

I think it makes quite a unique engagement ring, rather than choosing something stereotypical.

Go for it , OP.

DramaAlpaca · 30/11/2024 21:29

It's beautiful. I adore vintage rings and prefer coloured stones to classic diamonds. It looks really pretty on your finger.

Letmegohome · 30/11/2024 21:43

@Dumbles if it was mine I wouldn't change it , I think it beautiful and you say it's s family piece think of all those who loved & wore it before you

greengreyblue · 30/11/2024 21:48

It’s beautiful. I love gold,I have a warm skin tone so silver is too cool.

Lemonademoney · 30/11/2024 21:50

It’s lovely. Please don’t change it as it will no longer have its history. Just needs a good clean and maybe a polish.

Motnight · 30/11/2024 21:50

It's beautiful, and looks gorgeous on.

WeeWigglet · 30/11/2024 21:56

Ah congratulations!
I was going to say I love the ring but it's not very sparkly - needs a good clean.

I'd treat yourself to a trip to the jewellers to have the setting checked & give it a proper clean, it'll look brand new.

IhateHPSDeaneCnt · 01/12/2024 06:23

You've had some good advice on the thread but definitely take it a reputable Jeweller for a clean and to check settings. First picture main stone looks like an Opal. On your finger, more blue! Congratulations!

poetryandwine · 01/12/2024 11:38

It is a lovely vintage ring, OP, but it looks really special on your finger. A great engagement ring!

I think we are all biased towards the metal of our own rings. Yellow gold and white gold/platinum have been cycling in and out of fashion for over 100 years. I was the tail end of the last yellow gold trend in my home country; it lasted longer on the Continent than in the UK and the US.

Having said that, perusing any upscale fashion magazine or jewellery store will show that yellow gold is very much coming into its own again, and I def think it suits this ring.
