Honest thoughts on this please!

Ring ring

It's lovely - I honestly wouldn't touch it. You'll ruin the thing which makes it pretty

FuckoffeeBeforeCoffee · 30/11/2024 18:34

It looks much nicer on but I think that's because you can't see the gold. I think it would look nicer with a different coloured band.

3peassuit · 30/11/2024 18:34

Very pretty. It looks lovely on your finger.

Corinthiana · 30/11/2024 18:35

It's lovely, please don't alter it. No such thing as "engagementy".
If it's an engagement ring, that's what it is. Mine has rubies!
Over the last few years, solitaires in white gold have been very common, so it's nice to have something a bit different.

Katherineryan1986 · 30/11/2024 18:36

I think it's lovely.
My original engagement ring was a blue topaz and I still love those pale blue stones.
I had a replacement engagement ring recently and chose a Sri Lankan sapphire in a similar style to your ring.
Wear it and enjoy it.

Corinthiana · 30/11/2024 18:37

Aquamarine and diamonds 😍gorgeous!
Do not alter it or change the band. These things increase in value, leave well alone.
It's lovely.

faffadoodledo · 30/11/2024 18:38

I love it. And vintage/family jewellery is a lovely thing.
As for gold being dated, well, I must tell my DD and her cool friends!

IdontPracticeSanteria · 30/11/2024 18:40

I like the gold band. Makes it a little different.

Corinthiana · 30/11/2024 18:43

Yellow gold is lovely, it always looks good.

BIWI · 30/11/2024 18:43

Remember @Dumbles that fashion (especially in things like jewellery) is just marketing.

Isatis · 30/11/2024 18:46

I think it's lovely, and I wouldn't alter it.

Dumbles · 30/11/2024 18:46

Thanks all, I really do love it so thanks for the tips!! I will probably leave as is but also wondered about switching to a silver /white gold band. It’s great to get all the opinions.

Corinthiana · 30/11/2024 18:48

Silver or white gold wouldn't look as good. Yellow gold is classic. Plus I wouldn't tamper with a vintage ring.
It's a beauty!

DeepRoseFish · 30/11/2024 18:49

It’s stunning and I wouldn’t alter it. It might be worth less afterwards.

Wonderi · 30/11/2024 18:51

I really like it and I’ve not seen one like that before.
I love unique things.

It’s very pretty and if I saw you wearing it I would definitely have to compliment it! I think it’s fine to wear as a normal ring, maybe just not on your ring finger.

What changes were you thinking of making?

Why ? I've never worn an engagement or a wedding ring. I've got quite a few rings of various ages and histories that I swap around and wear on my ring finger.

JulesJules · 30/11/2024 18:54

cardboard33 · 30/11/2024 18:30

Why would you want to modernise an old family ring for your (?) engagement ring, particularly if you've always loved it. Why can you not just wear it as is, aside from getting it resized?

My engagement ring is my great grandma's engagement ring from 1909. I got engaged in 2015. It's gold with 3 small diamonds in a design which is (apparently) unique to the era, and I like it. You say you want to "modernise" it to make it "engagement-y" enough - what does that even mean anyway?

I think your ring is beautiful OP.
I also have my Great Grandma's diamond engagement ring from 1909!

Kdubs1981 · 30/11/2024 19:07

Gold? Dated? The irony of this fashion opinion being dated 😂

Kdubs1981 · 30/11/2024 19:07

I love it

Chewbecca · 30/11/2024 19:08

I love it and think it looks great on your hand.

My only query is I would check how a wedding band will fit beside it.

amoreoamicizia · 30/11/2024 19:09

Beautiful! I wouldn't mess with it, it's gorgeous as is and you might lose the integrity a bit.

DoYouReally · 30/11/2024 19:19

For reasons I can't explain, it looks ok in the first picture but so much nicer and really lovely on your hand.

Jaehee · 30/11/2024 19:22

It looks like aquamarine, and I'd guess Edwardian? Very pretty. Not old-fashioned, just elegant and chic. Definitely keep it as it is, silver or platinum would ruin it IMO.

I think the red nails complement it beautifully.

GettingStuffed · 30/11/2024 19:25

It's beautiful and a bit understated.
