Travel outfit when flying from cold to hot weather

Please help me with this. Overnight 12 hour flight from miserable December weather to hot and sunny on arrival. What's a good outfit choice?

Personally when I've flown to hot countries from cold I've worn tights under loose wide leg trousers and long sleeve t shirt cardigan and coat.

Then before landing or on arrival at the airport taken off the tights and changed to a vest t shirt. Carry coat and wear cardi if needed.

I find planes are chilly though!

On top, layer up. Have a sleeveless top that you have something over and just remove the layers.

On bottom, just change in the loo on the plane or at the airport.

There's nothing that's so versatile that it would be tolerable in both.

Having recently done it and been freezing cold on the flight (thanks BA) I would focus on really warm comfy stuff that you can strip off the other end. I made the mistake of travelling in a jacket when a warm hoody would've been better.

To be honest tho, we got off the plane into an air conditioned airport, walked a very short distance into an air conditioned bus, then into the hotel, so whatever you wear you won't be uncomfortable for long (unless you're making your way across a hot city independently).

Dress for cold climate and the air conditioned plane. Then at the airport in the hot place change into lighter clothes.

I do this by wearing layers on top and lighter, thinner clothes on the bottom, eg leggings. They should easily fit in the hand luggage.

Last time I did this, i had a long sleeved tunic. I had a vest underneath, cardie and leggings for cold/plane. Then I took the vest and leggings off in the loo on arrival.

Planes are cold. Last time I did it I layered up. I wore one of my black shortish summer dresses but put leggings under it... I had white socks and trainers then a long sleeved t-shirt and cardigan.

Near the end of the flight I took leggings and cardigan off.
Also think about how you're travelling to the airport! We wore light jackets and put them in our hold luggage.

Empire line maxi dress with leggings underneath and a cardigan. Uniqlo foldaway puffs coat. Lose leggings and cardigan on arrival.

Wouldn’t wear a coat! A light jacket is fine. You won’t want to be lugging a coat around your hot destination! My tip is to carry a Heattech layer (or similar) for the plane (light and you stuffs up small for after) as they get chilly. I have been known to even wear my heattech in the air conditioned apartment in Vietnam!

I would pack a change, long flights make feel grubby so changing clothes helps with that.

I tend to use a shawl / sarong almost all year round and that can be useful if the flight is cool.

I'm flying in January to the Southern hemisphere and am planning to wear a maxi jersey dress with demin jacket and a large cashmere shawl. The dress is really comfortable and the shawl doubles up as a blanket on the flight. Due to the flight length, I'll be wearing flight socks but they are the same colour as my dress so don't look odd and do keep my legs warm too!

I wear a long t-shirt dress (short sleeves) with tights and a cardigan. Also take a big shawl/wrap which doubles up as an extra blanket on the flight. Seems to work well for this kind of flight in both directions.

I did this last week. Warm jersey trousers, tshirt and jumper from home, and put some thin cotton trousers in my bag to change into at the other end. Aircon on planes is often fierce.

@KeepOnCleaning that's a shame! They did a long sleeve version which would probably be better un that case but not sure they still do it!
Me and Em do some midi/maxi jersey dresses which are quite similar.

@KeepOnCleaning Me and Em slub jersey dress is in the sale. It's a easy to wear dress and very comfortable which is what you want for a long flight but not look a crumpled mess when you arrive!

Regardless of where we’re flying to I travel in leggings and a sweatshirt. Then change into shorts and T-shirt if we’re going to a warmer climate.

Thermal leggings and warm socks on bottom half, worn under a long cotton skirt. Take off the leggings on arrival. Top half, vest top, long sleeve top, warm loose sweater or sweatshirt. Just peel layers as needed when plane lands. Make sure you have room in carryon bag to stuff warm things into it.

I flew from London to India recently. I wore a light weight sleeveless jumpsuit with a t shirt underneath and a denim shirt over it. That was warm enough for the plane. When we landed in India I took the T-shirt off in the airport loo, put that and the shirt in my hand baggage and travelled to my destination in the sleeveless jumpsuit.
