Ok what shoes can I wear with dresses and black tights that feel like trainers?

I walk all over London for work between meetings for my corporate type job. I wear dresses and skirts, and in the winter this means black tights.

To make things more difficult I have plantar fascitis. While I have boots and loafers from 'comfortable' brands like Gabor, and I have also added squishy insoles, it's just not enough and my feet can really hurt. What I should be wearing is sports type trainers but they don't work at all with my work wardrobe, particularly in the winter with the tights. Summer I can get away with more. No one is going to tell me off for wearing the wrong shoes but I need something that looks ok.

So, please help. What smartish shoes are there out there as soft as trainers?!

I'd look at ECCO and Camper

Could you wear some lace up brougues? Black patent maybe?

Ineffable23 · 18/11/2024 16:07

Black puma suedes? They're totally black so would hopefully just vanish into the bottom of an outfit?

Treacletoots · 18/11/2024 16:08

Another vote for Camper

I've tried all black trainers but they still don't look right.
Would be happy with brogues but again, are there any that feel like trainers?

I just change shoes on arrival. I have the same issue with less walking and I haven't found anything remotely suitable that looks appropriate with smart office wear. I can only wear Brooks running shoes with special insoles to avoid a lot of pain. I have smarter Fitflop trainers [over-rated] that I can wear for a few hours in the office but it is painful after those too, just marginally less so than regular Gabor or similar heels or flats.

I have just had a look and because it's winter I guess they have brought out black running shoes and a set of walking shoes so I'm off to choose.

Vivobarefoot leather lace ups. Add a heel lift. I live in mine.

Or something like this?

I'm going to try Camper. They don't tend to be quite right with my wardrobe of midi shirt dresses but there are some which might work.

Failing all else I'll have to change but it's pretty annoying to have to carry around another pair of shoes that don't fit in my current bag, and to change every time I go in and out of an office, particularly if I'm with colleagues who don't have the same issue!

I have some black slip on trainers from Hush, but I wouldn't describe them as trainers at all. They are pretty smart and work well with dresses and skirts.
Last year though but they may have similar

I have plantar fasciitis, it's a nightmare and has been going on for months. I can only wear these shoes:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B07PGKYX75/?coliid=IVTCG1UN2F5Y8&colid=EQUL6DQJJYWB&psc=1&ref=listtcwlllvovvligdppit&th=1

I think they work well enough with a dress and tights - not totally un-trainer-like, but they blend in well enough to be smart-ish.

Try enertor insoles with some brogues. Works for my PF.

Sole Bliss are amazing. I have arthritis in my big toe on one foot and capsulitis on the other so it can be super painful on the underneath of my feet.

I was going to ask if there’s anyway you can change, this is what I used to do, but I know it can be a nuisance (depending on the size of your bag)!

They are probably a bit too much on the runners side for you, but at DD's school they are allowed to wear Nike Air Force 1 because they look like shoes. Other trainers are not allowed even if they're all black.

whydoieven · 18/11/2024 19:54

@TreadSoftlyOnMyDreams Are Brooks trainers waterproof? I am struggling to find comfortable walking trainers that are waterproof.

Twoshoesnewshoes · 18/11/2024 20:41

Fitflop boots? They have ankle boots and knee boots, very comfortable and supportive

averythinline · 18/11/2024 21:21

Have you looked at Birkenstock shoes? My podiatrist recommended as the foot i sole is the right shape..
You may want better insoles.. squishy ones are generally not supportive.. i use a posture support one instead.

Or if u can wear trainers then swop to shoes highly recommend HOKA Bondi 8....
